Hello fam, please i want to ask if it's possible to convert a visitor's visa to a student visa while you are in Canada? or even apply for a student visa while on a visiting visa to Canada? What will be the person's chances?

Go back to google type CIC & send it, it will open many CIC features select ''check my application status'' then select the type of application you applied for and click continue, you will see sign in to your account and then ''link my paper application online'' downwards..

hope it helps bro.. njoy

Hello everyone.
Great job y'all are doing!

I intend applying to the University of Manitoba for a Masters program. I need to know how I can apply for UMGF.
Would I be automatically considered for the grant after my application is received by my prospective department or do I need to apply separately for it?
Please, I will appreciate a reply from anyone with some information about the University or currently schooling in the University.

Well.. Let's wait for inputs from people who may have had the experience otherwise, a guessed answer may not suffice.
I can only confirm to you that USA allows that... cos I know more than 2 people who have done it... in fact the schools will offer to process I-20 for you and help with your change of status to F-2. For Canada... I cannot confirm but there are applications you can do while on visiting.

I have been a guest on nairaland and discovered this thread lately. i have some questions.

Please do Canadian Universities assess MSc transcripts with Bsc transcripts if i am to apply for a Masters degree? I have a masters degree from UK, with a stellar grade i dont know if this is relevant? My CGPA in the last two years was of my UG was 3.49. Would i be admitted for a pre-masters course in University of Manitoba for instance? or gain direct entry to ottawa? I have been having the urge to apply to these schools based on what i have read here?. I don't know if i am following the wrong path.

Also is it really advisable not to disclose a previous masters degree such as that of UK in an application when your passport would show you have been granted a UK student visa?

What I have noticed is that your correspondence letter carries only your program end date plus 90 days!
Meaning commence date will be from the time you appear at PoE. However, your study start date is still the determinant..... So in any case, you'll still be required to provide a new letter if the original one expires before you get approval.
Is there such institution that will not agree to defer on the condition that your visa is being considered for approval for a later date?..... That's wicked!

You can't convert visitor's visa to study visa in Canada. if the duration of your program does necessarily need you to get a study permit, you can be allow to study (study period not exceeding 6months). Otherwise, you will have to come back and re-apply for your study permit. Unfortunately if you apply to convert your visitor's permit to study permit in Canada you will wait for too long before you will eventually be responded to that you can't convert it in Canada which eventually might extend your stay beyond your expiration stay in Canada. Check that link to confirm. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=483&top=15

When you apply to U of M, u automatically get an entrance scholarship if ur CGPA is 3.5 and above. In ur application page, the UMGF form will be der but u cn apply till u r in ur second year of study. The entrance sch n UMGF cannot be given at the same time.
Hope that helps

As for the grant, it is automatic wen u hv a supervisor from whose research grant you will be paid, u dnt need to apply for that. The grant is 17500 CAD / year. Ur supervisor will give u a funding letter which u will submit while applying for ur study visa

I applied for PGD program at Niagara College( Critical Nursing Care)and I submitted my apps around June against Sept. After waiting for 14wks the apps was refused based on: purpose of visit, and they are not sure weda I will come back after my studies.Document submitted= All cic forms, educational certificates, part payment of tuition fees, letter of sponsorship, affidavit letter frm my uncle, statement of accounts, land documents, marriage cert. Introduction letter, recommendation letter, leave approval, upfront medical, police reports and statement of purpose.
Now,my advisor from Niagara called that I should give it one more trial and this time I shd go for Nursing Management and leadership(PGD) that I would tell VO that I want to be a Nurse Administrator in Nigeria after my studes in Canada but me I am thinking of converting my Registered Nurse diploma to BSC at Prince Edward Island University(the admission process is on going) maybe it would boost my chances of approval. Please advise me,cos I am confused right now,n I don't know what to do. Your contributions will be highly appreciated. Very urgent plss!!!!!

Thank you for your expository reply. I really appreciate it as it has thrown light to a gray area.

You sound like a student of U of M or someone who knows the system really well, so maybe you could help me with a lil more details...

I didn't know, before now, that UMGF won't be offered in the first year. I was banking on it to cover the tuition fees.
The entrance scholarship is worth $5000, however the tuition fee is about $10000.
I have a supervisor who is willing to work with me, but he intends applying for an increase in his research grant, hence, he would only accept me if I can get a scholarship to cover my tuition.

Now, my question is... From experience, do you think I can strive solely on these available scholarship and grant (entrance scholarship and research grant) if admitted, as I don't have any personal funds?

Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by thesoj: 9:56pm On Dec 12, 2016
Actually it is quite possible to convince the VO about your intended switch but this requires a high burden of proof from you to show that the career switch is indeed genuine and not random or arbitrary. It would be easier to make this case if you either have professional experience in the new field that you are switching to, or if you have informal experience (with proof) demonstrating your desire to pursue the new field. Even with all the evidence, you will also need to write an extremely passionate and convincing statement of purpose.

There are people on this forum that have done what you are trying to do. But keep in mind that it is a high risk proposition that you should undertake only if you are confident of why you are making the switch, and only if you also have evidence and compelling reasons to do so. Additionally, you would need to be able to communicate this information clearly and intelligently in your SOP to CIC.

If you don't feel confident about your ability to convince the VO of the switch, then this is also an indicator that you yourself might not even be sure of why you are making the switch to that specific course. After all, if you haven't truly explored the new field (with evidence to show the VO), how would you know if you would like it once you start classes? This is why VOs are strict with these sort of course switches.

VOs are open-minded subjective human beings, you can convince them if your reasons make sense. However the burden of proof is quite high in some cases, and this is one of them. But it is very doable. You just have to be honest with yourself as to whether your reasons for switching to the new course are credible.
