I had the perception that North is filled with Dirty people, illiterates, Criminals, Islamists, cheap foods, Almajiris, and unfriendly people. That was before I get to north but now I am in the north, and i can say that,There are different areas in the North and each of these areas act differently from the other in many ways. Illiteracy is widespread likewise almajiri education system which breeds almajiri beggars in developed areas. There are much Islamists mostly in Niger, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Northern Bauchi,Jigawa and Yobe but others are mostly as free as Southern states. Northerners are human being also and they're friendly too. A lot of places in north are as dirty as other parts of Nigeria. There are few foods you can get cheap. There are heavy flies infestation; everywhere is Flies.

What do you mean by that? Are you not also a human being or am I getting you wrong?

From your post, you must reside in a very poor area of the North.

No offense. Imagine this statement:

"Nyamiri are also human beings. "

Does that sound normal to you?

it seems you're too sensitive. The statement is normal when used correctly.

You're simply unexposed. The same way I can look at all the satanic crimes, rituals and poverty in your region from where I am, and call it backward in every aspect.

I admire what you are trying to do with the photos on this thread but those photos are for the wrong audience that is not what they want to see. They want to see pics of almajiris, hijab wearing women&other stereotypes
Thesame thing can be said about the western media portrayal of africa. They would rather show us in mud huts with starving babies than showing us in cities living upmobile lives but as long as you&i know "what time it is",why should we care what these ignoramuses think of us

No. Logic suggests that you're assuming northerners are not human beings in order to make that statement. You should be careful with your words, it's not about sensitivity.

Imagine if I said despite all the anus stuffing with drugs and beheading because of land, easterners are still human beings. You don't need to be sensitive to deduce there's something wrong with that statement.

Very valid points, but in the age of social media, if you allow bigots, ignorant and unexposed people to tell your story, it will only reinforce the negative stereotype.

One who has never been in the North would just swallow the skewed statements on this thread and assume the North is entirely one backward region lacking modernity and development

North is the richest region in Nigeria but their leaders are the worst set of beings, some of them are nice but their religion is what scares one in the core north.
Simple, honest and nice but they can be dangerous too

Northerners, down south, are reputed for different series of mass action against non-natives and minorities residing within them, which has resulted in different atrocities including massacre, terrorism and forced displacement of people. Nobody who has not been to north will agree that human being resides there. Northerners are considered as 'animals' from the Southern point of view especially those that has not been there. So there is that feeling that nothing from north looks like those in South. The person that created this thread equally want to hear those sentiments. So,when I said " Northerners are human being also", It is simple my view that they should be judged like human beings and not as terrorists, or 'animals'

I have lived in the South and among southerners, and nobody has been daft enough to generalize the actions of a handful of ignorant extremist criminals in the North that engage in ethno religious killings, as their perception of the entirety of northerners.

Its the lack of exposure, ignorance, lack of intelligence and plain stupidity I was talking about. I will advise you to look at the people you surround yourself with again.

It's just like me taking the perception of unexposed northerners that easterners are all animals because of the activities of Ibo ritualists, Osu culture, your criminals, drug mules and fraudsters. It's held in the North for instance, that the easiest thing for an easterner is to kill his father or brother over ordinary land or inheritance, for example, will it not be daft to then say because of the opinion of ignorant northerners, then ALL northerners think easterners are animals? But we all know that not all easterners are like that, just like all northerners are not killers.

I've never been to the north. But most info were gotten from the Internet and relating with northerners in the south.

One thing I know is that we are all Nigerians and we all have our anomalies likewise our good side. There certainly are good people over there as much as bad people which is the same case in every region of the country. However, the main anomaly i know that is peculiar to the north is the level of illiteracy which is way beyond those in other regions. And in turn the more reason why things seem backward over there. Every other anomalies that people might point out there is also peculiar to the other regions.

What do you think about this?

Actually I've never been there but I've had a preamble of the possible way things might seem over there. We have northern settlement here, even though their lifestyle is mixing more with those of us here and so i can't base my perception of the north on them. Even the newcomers gets mocked by those that were born and bred here — atimes you see them calling them "dan kauye" lol. However with the available info on the Internet and on daily newspaper, i think everyone can have first hand information of how the north looks and how things are being done over there.

Ok. You're somehow right. But there is exaggeration of somethings you read in the media. Though I pray someday I will invite you.

FEAR NORTH... North is equated with marriage. Yes (marriage is like a room those in it want out but few make it out alive but bad as it may, each Saturday witness a lot of weddings) back to the North, Many flee the north due to fear of insurgent, fulani herds men, Muslims, (kadara and nupe for those in Niger.) and what have you. But not minding the risk many also migrate to the north because of availability of arable land, cheap food, cheap land, cheap rent, and cheap life. Yes cheap life because alto has been slay for not just cause,.... However business flourish, for those in kaffi koro (pikoro LGA Niger) light is 99% available... But for me this goodies are bait at the end of a fishing line... Did i remember to mention Muslims and fulani as the major problems the north have?
I have to prepare for work.. Tell you more when i get home.
@bolded, that is because Allah (swt) enjoined us to marry early so as to prevent engaging in premarital sex / formication which is a great problem unlike down south where potential couple will both taste the forbidden fruit before settling down..

Proudly Northerner!
