Please the issue is not the commission. I once paid with my card in a petrol station. I was debited and it didn't go thru. I tried more than 3times and it didn't go thru... And for each time I tried I was been debited.... So who is to be blamed then?

And of course most of us have experienced this painful situation. Nigeria is not really ready for a full blast cashless system because of too much inefficiency and error-proneness in the system. Why should I be compelled to bear the attendant pain and inconvenience?

The other guy trying to defend the CBN and talking about mobile money is too academic and idealistic in his reasoning. The bottom line is that people must be able to access their cash at any given time because they are entitled to it. Any artificially induced liquidity squeeze is indicative of economic failure and that lends credence to the growing concerns about the havoc Buhari and his incompetent team have done and are doing to our economy.

Technology fails sometimes everyone knows that. You can also stay in that queue and when it gets to your turn the same thing will happen.

You really don't need to throw insults. It's not necessary. Are you really saying there is no other way to access money apart from physical withdrawals? When you pay at a supermarket with your atm, have you not accessed your money? When you transfer to a customer via mobile money, have you not accessed your money? Shortage of physical cash is not and cannot prevent people from having access to their money in this 21st century.

Lol u speak like someone dt doesn't reside in naija. We have not got to dt point where we pay for all goods and services via POS it's simply cash and carry. I have not seen even a filling station dt one can pay via POS. So quit ur argument it makes u look like a goat. We are in 21 century but function like we are in 19th century here. Got dt nw

I like to deal with facts. The thread below, colonial whites described Igbos as "civilized" and described yorubaas as "barbaric and savages". That when they arrived Lagos coast they saw yorubaas cutting their faces with sharp objects, there was blood everywhere. It was disgusting the colonial whites said. See facts!

I am sure you were referring to me and I didn't defend the CBN infact I blamed them. What I am saying is that the topic is wrong. Cash shortage is different from deliberately denying access to funds. That isbthr crux of the matter.
To all of you saying I am too idealistic and Nigeria is not ready and all what not my answer to you is KENYA. Not America o, KENYA!!! If KENYA can do it, why can't we? Even Ivory Coast is leading Nigeria in Mobile money in West Africa and that is a shame.

We are youths for crying out loud! All we do is complain instead of seeing opportunity in this problem. All we do is go to Facebook and Nairaland and complain

Look, this mobile money thing has worked in countries with less infrastructure.

Will there be issues? Yes! just like there are with atms and banks will employ a couple of youths to resolve at the bank end if the system can't resolve automatically. I am amazed people can't see how our society will be transformed but choose to see the issues.

I was in Kaduna, you should have seen the lines at the ATM machines, and within 3hrs, the money was finished and people almost broke the machines in anger. Anarchy is brewing in this country and the government visavis banks are foolishly making things worse by.....PREVENTING PEOPLE FROM TAKING THEIR OWN MONEY....THEIR OWN MONEY NOT STIPENDS! Let me tell you something this stubborn, heartless government...you can destroy the economy as much as you want, but if you dare try to prevent people from accessing their hard earned money under the hardship you have inflicted on us in this country, that's a call for anarchy. This is not APC or PDP, people are angry. This is just common sense! There is no doubt there is order from above to banks to limit cash withdrawals for liquidity reasons, if not...WHY IS THIS HAPPENING NOW? This has never happened before. We see this only happening in countries with failed economies as was seen in Greece where the government imposed austerity measures and limited cash withdrawals to control liquidity and reserve.

****
Infact **** if u don't know how difficult it is in naija to withdraw on Fridays not to mention a holiday event like xmas.

Even b4 dis govt came to power as far back as 2010 we know how long the ATM queues are on Fridays and how we pray we get to withdraw b4 the money inside finishes.

Especially when it's after 4/5pm

So why bring this govt into it? Must every problem people experience in life be blamed on the govt? Govt??

The blame rests solely on the CBN n banks.

It's useless inciteful posts like yours that actually cause anarchy. Gibbons

Oga you need to calm down. Nobody is preventing anybody from having access to their money
Yes there is shortage of physical cash, people should use other channels, if you take your atm to a shop and pay via atm or you transfer money, it will still go. So it is wrong to say people are being denied access to their money
CBN has focused so much on the Dollar issue this year that they have not expanded on their cashless policy. That is the real issue.

I posted this on an earlier thread,
What CBN needs to do is deepen the implementation of Mobile Money. In Kenya, once I have your phone number, I can transfer money to you. This also saves a lot of money in printing cash. Another option is to take advantage of cash based businesses and use them as mobile money agents. For example, I should be able to walk into a Petrol station or supermarket, deposit money in their account through their POS and they give me the cash equivalent. It will help this businesses reduce their cash calls and bank trips.

I support your ideas, but believe me,they are supposed to inform Nigerians on time, by implementing at this time shows that there is fire on the mountain, MMM is even better.CBN and banks did it in a toutish way,and it will affect millions of lives and Nigerians

I hope those that broke the ATM have gotten cash out of the broken ATM now.

There are alternate channels like mobile money, POS Internet banking, Short code banking for transactions. Everything mustn't be done with physical naira and kobo.

I also agree that there should be more awareness on the usage of these other channels but going to destroy an ATM because it has stopped dispensing cash is a huge NO NO.

Savages are too much in this country.

Oga, that is the failure of CBN I am talking about. They need to introduce and enforce policies that would ensure e channels are available in a lot of places and I don't understand why people don't get that I am not advocating a total withdrawal from using cash. I am saying if people have options, there won't be queues, some will use cash and some e channels. Do you understand now?
