Some Nigerians have this way of looking at old people, they always think they're up to no good, courtesy home videos. That's why you'll see some people that don't travel to their villages, even when they go, they won't eat their grand parents food...etc.

When folks begin to age, they go back to being babies. They say the wrong things, act the wrong way, become petty...etc. It takes patient kids and grand kids to adapt to these changes. That is when the kind of treatment you saw at your friend's place starts to manifest.

It's not in your head, you know what you saw...it happens and I have seen it happen.

My grand parents have been dead a long time though.

Sadly, the elderly are prone to abuse and manipulations by their loved ones.
Some even beat their elderly frail grandparents who usually act "funny" from undiagnosed dementia. Grandkids that do such copy their own parents who are abusive.

My Grandmum is in the village and we treat her with so much love.
Maybe your friend is not happy taking care of the Grandmum or maybe she begged to live with them. All the same they shouldn't treat her badly. It aren't good.

I only knew my dad's mum, late now. We were never close to her even when she was staying with us before she passed on. We don't like her, she dealt with my mum when we were younger. Dey slap my mum anyhow, dey dictate how my mum go live her life. She instigated my dad against my mom. She begged for forgiveness before she passed on oti bale je jinna( she has done a lot without remedy)

My Gramma is a chic o...She's still very much sound and bubbly. In fact, she can start a world war III on her own without any help. Nobody dares diss her grin

Pls tell your friend to treat his/her grandmother with love for he is making his own history too. If God will, one day he would be old too...

It is sad that people mistreat their grand parents when others would give anything to have theirs back.

You don't know what blessing you are missing I tell you. Sure because of age, they can act funny and frustrating a times. It is normal particularly if they weren't well educated thus lacked that aspect of mental improvement which formal education brings.

But I can assure you, if you take out time to seat with them and hear them out, you will pick out ancient wisdom from them.

Jobs 32:7 says," let age speak, and advanced years should teach wisdom"

There is whole lot to learn from them. Too much modernity and social media is cheating us of the best gifts we have - Family

They are wicked abeg.

Its not cos old people act funny or any other reason. They are jus wicked people plain and simple.

They should take her to old peoples home before they shorten her time left with their bad treatment. She will even have people to interact with in the place.

how often do you have old people's homes? even at that who would foot such bill? she should be thankful they even feed her.

well, they are not really bad because I have known them all my life, trust me. they are just too insensitive to the woman or maybe there's more to the story than I know.

why I feel for the woman is that I put myself in her position every time I see her or each time they act bad towards her coupled with the thought of death approaching. it's really not a good feeling for me talk less of her.

Please do not think/hope that you will remain the way you are right now for ever....You will become a granddad one day.....During that time..If your grandkids ran away from you because of your wrinkled body,....and that your teeth are no longer white and perfect as before,....and are maybe scared that you will jazz them... because it was assumed that every middle classed old man or woman in Nigeria is a witch/ wizard.... always remember that it's the circle of life dear...

I would have loved to know your worth in $$ or ## that your grandparents have to stoop so low as to jazz you... I might be wrong though... you might even be Dangote's nephew

the missing puzzle in my take is that I don't know their past relationship. maybe she did something wrong to the parent before. just like the guy above that said his grandma dealt with his mum.

it's really not easy to forgive. especially when people hurt you so badly.
