Important Advice Needed - Mature Nairalander, Especially Those Based In The US - Family - Nairaland Need help (Please don't judge me.) Indianbro here. I had a good life when I was a teenager until I lost my parents in a car accident. I had to take care of my sister after that. It wasn't difficult because our parents left us a good fortune (not huge) and we had the support of family as well. In 2014, after finishing my master's, I decided to get a PhD in economics. I was admitted to an HRM (not holy zipcode, though) and was over the moon. My sister just finished her undergrad at that time and didn't know what to do with her life. This is where it gets a little weird: Through the suggestion of an elderly relative, we faked married (we pretended we are cousins, which is fine in India) and she came to US with me with an F2 visa. (we sleep in separate beds. no weird stuff.) Since we got here, she's been trying to enroll to a graduate program but to no avail. Now, here's the problem. I met a very beautiful white girl in my second year, and we've been dating. It's been a dream. However, she's a little older than me (36). She knows about my situation and is very understanding. But because of her age, she wants to get married soon and have a baby. (her family is conservative and doesn't want her to have kids out of wedlock. Their daughter having a brown bf is hard enough for them. So I want to divorce my sister but then she will be deported to India, and she doesn't have anyone there. These circumstances are really bothering me. I really don't what to do. I know I'm to blame because of my dishonesty (marrying my sister) but I did it only to help family. US embassy go soon dey request for a short video clip of married couple including their teen pics and first night together  Honestly speaking, I've got no advice because DISHONESTY is already involved   Bro this your issue kept playing out in my head and almost not making me have a good sleep. Trust me. I will like to suggest that you should let your sister get a strong love life/affair with a citizen over there...then both of you should travel to India and divorce. You can travel back to the States and she travel to Nigeria. Get to marry your love in US and your sister would have to deal with long distance relationship with the us based lover for a while and hopefully, she could be invited over by her lover. Seems ur sister will pay the price more... Pls read carefully within the line of what I wrote to fully grasp what I think you should do. 3 Likes |

Moderator, Please move this issue to front page..In its merit, it is a unique question that has not been asked on Nairaland before..It definitely will draw more traffic from other parts of the world because I will send the link to the guy and others on that site will click and come here. Mr Op here is the honest truth if your friend will listen. In his case there is nothing to do but be patient. It will take two years for his sisters to get her green card and three for citizenship after which he can now divorce her but if he decides to divorce her after her permanent green card then it will take her 5years to gain citizenship. I know because I have been through the system. |

Forget love. His loyalty should be to his sister. Women will come and go but blood is forever. There is no win win situation in this. His only option is for the white girlfriend to have a nigerian traditional wedding. To bless their union and have a family then in 5/7 yrs time or for however long it takes to get your citizenship, marry legally. Technically a traditional marriage is still wedlock. If he can't convince the white girl then he needs to be a man of his word and see things through with his sister. #Blood is thicker than water. |

Longevo:You think America na your village that allows polygamy eekwa? Young man, wait until your sister gets her passport or 10yrs green card and divorce her. That way, she won't get deported. With F2A, I'm sure she gets 2yrs first after which she will get 10yrs which is the real permanent residency. Meanwhile, what you did is wrong and criminal before the law. 2 Likes |
