Do stockbrokers keep shares certificate? I went to a sharebroker for the recovery of my bonus and dividends fortnight ago. They requested that I must have an account with them of which was opened for me and I was asked to pay a paltry into their account and bring the bank teller for them. I did as told and I signed some few papers and they collected the share certificate from me ,they said they would contact the registrar and everything will be recovered and that I will be contacted if the need arises. Actually,my intention was to sell the shares but I was discouraged not to sell it when I got to their office because I have very little knowledge about it. I bought the shares in skye bank in 2008....my apprehension now is ,is the certificate safe with them or should I go there and request for an extra copy of it? I'm confused. |

abeg222:It is one of the disadvantages of buying share from the primary market. To summarize it,what they did is the normal thing.you should have make photocopies before submitting to them but there is no problem.Bear in mind, the process is a long one and might take between one to two months before your shares are credited to your cscs account which you opened with your broker. You may have problem during the verifications if your signature appear irregular.Make sure you signed the same signature which you signed during the purchases.Always visit your broker(weekly) to know the status of the deal. Finally, bear in mind that you cant have your share certificates again once they are verified and credited into your account. |

locodemy:Thank you very much for the enlightenment but I have few questions. The dividends are to be paid directly into my bank account. So, in as much it won't be credited into the account they opened for me what will I be doing with the account? To trade with nothing in it? Plus can I still go there to request for the extra copy of the certificate and what if I want to sell the shares how will I go about it? |

I've said this b4 on this thread cos am not very patient. As for mmm. U can confirm from ppl DT contacted me DT I advised them ( even ppl DT were in b4) to make sure they pull out their money b4 dec as it was bound to have issues cos of massive pull out. Nevertheless, we are making money this year. |

abeg222:I guess you only submitted certificates to your broker and asked them to verify it for you so yo can sell abi? First, they will open what is called cscs account which your shares in the certificate will be transfered to.You can ask your broker to sell the shares from that account. You can be trading with the same account(buying&selling) Pls dont go there to ask for the certificate again because your shares will be credited to your account for you to sell. what you should go there to do is to ask them if your shares are credited and ready for sell.Do you understand now? For dividend,it is not necessary that your broker will process it for you.you can equally do it yourself.Tell me the company you bought their shares and i will tell you how you can claim your dividends. |

Fo will still present another opportunity for ppl. The economy is in deep recession and as such, I don't even expect good results from coys in NSE. Bt I won't fail to jijo when I see opportunities. |

locodemy:so comprehensive! Thank you. Honestly, I don't even know the company I bought the shares from. in 2008 I only went to skye bank to make a deposit and someone persuaded me to buy it and I bought it N14000.And they sent me a certificate afterwards. It was some couple of days ago I stumbled on it and I felt that the dividend may have yielded to something big so I took it to a broker. I actually wanted to sell it but I was dissuaded from doing so they said all my dividends and bonus will be transfered into my bank account and that I should get a system and start buying and selling via the account they opened for me. |

abeg222:Hope you know that skye bank is one of the banks in Nigeria facing difficult challenges. No wonder your broker said you cant sell now.i am sorry bro, your #14,000 investment here worths nothing and spending money processing either the dividend or bonus is wasting of money in the sense the money you will spend to process them is more than the value of your stock.I will advice you begin to make use of your account to trade new stocks and suspend the skye bank issues until their is light on the tunnel. This is the much help i can be to you.have a nice day...... In case you want to process your e-dividend or claim your outstanding dividends, pls kindly send an email to REGISTRARS@CARDINALSTONE.COM and follow the instructions from them.Good luck. |
