Lemme advice the young folks who are just about to start their BSC in Soc and Anthropology.

It is the most interesting and underrated course out there. It is difficult yet disrespected.

If u know u will come back on Nairaland after 4yrs to ask what u should do with d course, kindly reject ur admission now. Just brave it and wait till next year to try again in a more Nigeria-acceptable course.

If you've got maths skills please find your way to a fully fledged management course.. if u've got unique verbal skills find your way to profitable arts courses (emphasis on the word PROFITABLE cos a lot of them are crap too)

If you decide to study soc and anth in Nigeria. .

You are gonna come out and
1.travel out because you are privileged and God bless your mama and papa or
2. Be lucky enough to get into a job with requirement "any course" or
3. go back to do your msc in Sociology and try to chase a lecturing job (and compete with all ur classmates) or
4. Chase HR and try to compete with HR graduates (and a thousand other grads because HR seems to be free for all these days.. that's why it's quack infested) or
5.come out and hustle for military and paramilitary jobs (and compete with candidates who know big people)

A course like Sociology has no place in Nigeria yet, social works maybe.. but Sociology. . Not yet.

This applies to many many other course out there so take your time and find out your passion before you choose any course. Ask yourself.. will I enjoy the struggle after 4 yrs?

I want to register jamb and do sociology in uni but my parents say that sociology is a rubbish course and that i should do law or economics.
But i've never dreamed of becoming a lawyer or thought of it...besides lawyers spend six years in skul to come out and struggle to settle down(if you dont know big people).By the time you are 30 you are yet to start your own family.My lawyer brother is 24 and he is still trying to be independent.
As for economics....i dont like too much maths.
I chose sociology because i researched it,asked sociologist graduates,visited this thread.
The course suits me perfectly
but my parents say its rubbish course.
Please i want to know much more about this course and the job oppourtunities.
I 'll be happy if you guys help.
If you can refer me to a sociology graduate,i'll be happier.

hmmm na them won go skul for u sha maybe if u apply for law dem fit shift u go sociology cos people wa d apply for dat course plenty pass people wa get Job for nigeria. Una don get one lawyer wa no get job n ur parent still want another one. No course is rubbish

my own advice is that just study sociology but in your 100level you will do math but it just basic and in your 200l you will do social statistics.just know what sociology involve some calculation we sociologists have phobia for number, lol.study sociology and you won't regret
