Wow! This is absolutely the best factual article I have read so far in the argument between Private and Public universities in Nigeria. Sometimes I feel like is a shame for First and Second generational universities like UI, OAU, UNIBEN, UNILORIN etc to be fighting with barely 15years old private universities for excellence.
As a product of both public and private institutions, i can authoritatively say that everything boils down to the students. If you wanna do great, whether UI or CU you can do it.
Be that as it may, we cannot rule out the importance of Quality Lecturers and Conducive Learning Environment to a student's academic performance.

Nobody ever said CU ranked higher than UI on webometrics. CU came second and everyone knows that but we should definitely surpass UI by August 2017. Also CU and UI would be the only universities that THE would rank for 2017 so we shall see how far they both go I world rankings.

You don't understand why CU is so successful. Covenant university is owned by a Church that is wealthier than most states in Nigeria. The Church plans to build five more universities both inNigeria and across Africa. Landmark alone cost 7 billion Naira. Meaning the Church is wealthy enough to co-fund 7 universities at a time. LFC Is willing to fund CU to top 10 in the world. This year alone the church set aside 1.6 billion for CU in addition to its own igr. This availability of funds gives them the opportunity to get world class lecturers and buy the best of equipments. Therefore in two or three years they would be far better than Uni of Capetown.

The vast majority of public university students could not handle an ordinary microscope- My sister went through a public university and never saw a microscope as a microbiology student till she graduated. 1. Electricity: OAU light has not twinkle for the past 72hours now. On Saturdays when the maintenance unit will at work, a memo about power will be passed around the whole campus since say Thursday.

2. Students course load: You wrote that CU students offer more coursework than OAU and UI and blindly infer that CU students offers an average of 13units course per semester. This is laughable sir. Always get your fact right before putting junks online, you indirectly mocked the intelligence radius of CU students Sir.
For your information, you can't register less than 15units coursework in OAU as the portal has been programmed to indirectly reject your registration if less than 15units.
A freshman on OAU campus offer an average of 20units coursework per semester. Need I tell you theat every OAU students are mandated to have complete at least 12units special elective upon graduatio . What this means is just that, aside from your normal department and faculty courses, you must have gone to at least 6 different faculties on campus to take courses so as to be vast in other fields and not just be narrow-minded to just what you come to study on campus.

3. Spirituality: You must be a joker. That CU is owned by a church doesn't make it spiritual. We regularly hear news of homosexuality in these church owned varsities every now and then.
Take a trip down to OAU and ask for the direction of OAU's sport complex. Come back to this thread and thank me.

OAU has the strongest alumni body(both home and abroad) in West African.
To start listing our alumin here will make you chicken out of this debate as it will be seen as crime against humanity. But, nevertheless, have it at the back of your mind that this very platform your using to market CU is an invention of an OAU product.

Your statement has just verified my claim the more: "For your information, you can't register less than 15units coursework in OAU" In CU we're talking about 25units and above (31 for final year students because of the extra course load some may have). Uploading my final year course registration print out will knock you out given the fact that we do project, final important leadership certification courses and such number of courseloas; when other federal uni students are taking 8 - 12units (abounting to 5 and maximum of 6 courses) at the same level.

3. Any one you know of that you can point us to - regarding CU If not let's wait till then!

1. Yes of course, I've seen a good number also. If they didn't have good research works, there wouldn't have been any basis for the research gate comparison (their works are one of the most read "in the country"!

2. Yes, read the first paragraph of the post for what brought about the comparison. And you just attested to CU's good governance even though you think money is the reason for it (which I differ to - there are schools that charge much more that are not well governed!).

3. Once again you've judged correctly. I don't dispute that. They just had to leave the federal schools to go to a school with good academic environment that will enhance their academic pursuit. Given the opportunity, you may do the same!
