Not implying that Zlatan stopped them from stepping up but the club really need them to step up big time in his absence because we are in the most crucial period.

If they are ready to spend 100m on a midfielder then they better be ready to shell out similar amounts on strikers and wing forwards who actually score goals.
Now is the time to spend money on players that can win us the league rather than spending money just to spit in the face of Madrid.
the key word in your post is "players". Barcelona had Neymar Jr and Lionel Messi but still went after Luis Suarez to stamp a treble. Sir Ferguson had Paul Scholes and Roy Keane but still paid good money for Juan Sabastian Veron. It is dishonesty for anybody to expect Paul Pogba to be the all and all, the cost of players 'really' shouldn't concern the fans.

I followed the fee debate on Facebook and other forums (I don't remember visiting Nairaland that period), and quite a sizeable number of fans were excited with the outcome; especially after the David de Gea saga from the previous year.

I think I understand the point of view on the 'spit' analogy despite its blunt 'nastiness'. This club CANNOT return to former heights if it folds its arms and let the better talents continue to slip past them. Reference Liverpool
and Arsenal. No club will get the best players without stiff competition from other ambitious clubs (competition here means money of course). The Robert Lewandowski and Antoine Greizmann will not be bought on a platter of gold. It either stump up the cash or scram undecided

Look at the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid at a time when he was the best player in the world. Can you imagine the set back if the manager was not a legend. Can you imagine how much worse the situation will be right now if David de Gea was lost to same Real Madrid? Pardon me but Manchester United claims to be a top enterprise, then they must act the part.

Paul Pogba had his formative years with this club, so once the opportunity for a return was opened and this club was interested; it really shouldn't matter who else stood in the way. £150m could have been paid if that was what it would've taken for the Excos to paint the "what we want we get" picture.

I like the Real Madrid blueprint in the market over the few years. They gave off this "we will take your best" / "you can go to blazes who cares" aura; my kind of guys, and it has worked massively for them. I'd rather adopt such proven option for success than go the Arsenal way.

I actually believe that Madrid is still very unstable. apart from mourinho, when last did a manager spend more than 2 years there? Madrid has always wanted to be like Barça, have a unique brand of football, breed a lot of academy players to become world class stars such that even those kids turn out to be world class managers. 4 of the world's top 10 current managers are from Barça. They always hire their own.

But despite hiring 23 managers in 25 years, they're still yet to achieve their aim. Chelsea and Manchester United have won more than madrid in the 21st century bar club World Cup.
Madrid has no definitive pattern of football, their academy is yet to breed a world class star. They don't produce coaches from their system. There are already silent rumblings this season about zidane getting the chop because of their wobbles.

Their instability is unmatched. It wouldn't be wise to model success on Madrid. Barça remains the blue print for success in modern football.

Only a woman would say something like this...The concept of saving money is almost foreign to y'all...Splashing money anyhow, you want to bankrupt us...Thunder fire The Board if they give next seasons coach anything more than 75million Euros.

Madrid only motivation for breeding home grown talent is too pay them less money and pay more to the Ronaldo's of these world a principle that has brought them success.(two UCL count has successful)
what Is this aim they haven't achieved?
and some other person will tell you that instability at the manager plays a part in the success of Madrid, barca and Chelsea.
developing home grown talent has more to do with luck than anything else.
even Pep,their greatest Ambassador doesn't appear to care about Home grown talent anymore.

All this would be more logical if the club bought Pogba and another quality midfielder. My major issue was it seems the club was more interested in buying marquee names rather than buying players in a systematic way to build a winning team.
I said from the onset that we needed 2 quality midfielders not just 1 marquee midfielder AND the pogba money could have done the job. The same people that were castigating Rooney here for his salary are coming back now to ask "is it your money" when it comes to Pogba. No club has infinite resources and there are funds set aside for player acquisition every year so saying the cost of a player should not concern fans is a bit naive.
It is all in the past now though but we should remember that the best way to spit in someone's face is not buying every big name they are after but to defeat them in the champions league final, ask Dayo what English clubs have done to him in the final cheesy

Who is this idiot, Herrera has a better skill set than Kante, Herrera has more pinpoint long balls, Herrera is the more creative of the player and certainly the better one in terms of intelligence, Late can't make a ,69 yard punt to save his life.

The "kamikaze" approach wey we wan dey adopt nowadays would only make us the butt of jokes in Europe if care isnt taken..

With the heavy investments that have not exactly translated into desired results in the last few years, we might need the services of a competent Sporting Director (or Director of football) for optimal planning and execution of our transfer policies.

We talked about Verrati, Kante, Modric, Kroos e.t.c but they said there was no possibility of getting them, as if we were favourites to get Adabowale before we started pricing onigbese pricing. There are some problems that are not solved by just throwing money around, we have to spend resources wisely and with a clear plan.
Falcao, Di Maria and this last off season tell me that whoever is making the decisions at the top has no idea what he is doing and if we do succeed it would be by accident rather than by design.
