Ur applying as an undergraduate . Most of the scholarship are labelled 'for first time freshmen only'
Ur having ND has disqualified u from freshmen scholarships.

But maybe u can write to the school if u can evaluate ur ND transcript.
Maybe then u ll be a transfer student.

Please the GURUS in the house can help !

What she has to do in this situation is to apply alone first to demonstrate home ties and after she gets through, she then applies for her kid. Applying for visa for her kid at the same time may likely spell doom to her application, especially if the VO asks for her husband's whereabouts.

Thanks so much she has no international passport and all the experienced travellers and agent says I should do her passport with my maiden surname. I really don't like the idea but my passport is virgin

Do not take any irrational step that might hunt ur kid in the long run.

You may be right, but according to the bolded which you quoted from the school site, it's either the student has SAT has good score in SAT or 3.0GPA in high school result + TOEFL right?

Also, it is stated on the page that everyone who meets the requirements is considered for the scholarship, right?

Considered for something doesnt mean anything..... for school application everyone who meets the minimum requirement applicantion is reviewed SURE but is everyone given admission NO....... applicants are then ranked based on strength and then most importantly availability of space

Same way with scholarship... all depends on how many applicants the school will sponsor compared to the pool of qualified applicants. So been considered in my eyes doesnt carry much weight blc 1 % can be given or 100 %

From what i have read so far, 1) You will need documents that can prove she is your daughter 2) If you are going on a visit, you will need to prove strong home ties to the V.O i.e something like landed property, good job etc 3) Changing your daughter's surname to your maiden name might be a good idea but you need to think about the future before you do that, the V.O will definitely ask for your husband and other questions will arise.3) You might want to think about applying alone first

The solution is DNA test. If she has the test result, then it's enough prove to show that the kid is hers, not someone else.

I want to use this opportunity to inspire prospective US graduate students. Please also apply to big and expensive schools. They have more funding. I got a an award of almost $24k a year in George Washington University. Whn I started the journey with GW I had no tuition just accomodation in that area. But I prayed hard for a miracle and it came in form of this award. Nigerians shy away from the school because we feel it's too expensive, but they really have good funding opportunities so it's a good try. Just want to Inspire others to try Thier luck. I have learnt a lot from this thread Thank You and best wishes.

you are so right even in America , there are so many single parents (for whatever reason) so i am sure the VO is used to this situation and it will not be strange to see a child and a mother answering different surnames .

VOs living in Nigeria know the Nigerian culture and would interview you based on that. It may be a norm in the US, but not in Nigeria. For a spouse name change after marriage, that can be easily accepted since they know it's a cultural thing. Carrying documents might not be helpful as those can be forged. The burden lies on how you're going to be able convince the VO even without documents, and with a logical reason.
