Well, I have a way of getting dollars way cheaper without patronizing black market, but then if I didn't have such source; I'll rather deal with a black market man I can see physically than risk sending money to someone account whom I haven't met before. I'll rather buy from mallam for 450 and collect my dollar than being conditioned to pay my naira first before getting the dollar. What if I pay naira and the other person abscond? Well, we all have different opinions; personally, I can't send naira first and you can't send dollar first either. If you can't trust me, why should I trust you? What's the difference between 440 someone offered on here and 450 from black market anyway? 10naira? I'll rather spare 10 naira on a physical and assured deal than losing my whole 440 cuz I want to reduce 10 naira cost.
Can you hear yourself? Because you have a special way of sourcing for dollar, you feel/assume every applicants like you has too. Good for you if you will rather buy from mallam but don't come here and discourage or talk down on people trying to help each other here, I have not heard of someone that was scammed on this forum.I keep reading about people helping people they have not met physically before and BTW you will use your dollar account to pay Sevi fee too? I am just curious. I as a person will use boxypay if I need Naira than do the wahala of looking for who needs dollar or go to walmart to pay sevi fee for someone. Even though, I have trust issues too just like a normal person sending dollar first or Naira, I still believe either party can reach a common ground..The person sending dollar first can send his passport data page bearing the same name as the Naira bank account the other party is sending the Naira to, that way the money is traceable in the event there is a problem along the way. And by the way, because you can afford black market doesn't mean someone else can, if I am applying to 5 schools + Sevi fee etc, i need about $800 for the whole shit, $800 at black market rate is #368,000 and if I get someone here to do it at #440, its #352,000, that's is about 16k saved that I can use for other stuffs, so its a win win situation for both party. Last year I remember sending money to walspring for i20, Till today I don't know if Wale is short or tall, black or fair...That kind gesture saved me about $50. You might feel this amount is small, but they build up to become something substantial.

Well, I won't argue with you because I understand that it would be selfish of me arguing with you knowing I have my way of sourcing for dollars as low as 350. Knowing that not everyone has such privilege. I apologize for whatever way you take it, but I insist I'll rather deal with someone I can see than a faceless forum.
And the sad part of the post above is that you wont show those asking the way, typical Nigerian. Saying something is not good but we will never provide alternative solution.

Like I said, I won't argue or join issues with you and we all have different opinion. Well, as for the bolded; I'll rather pay 368k and collect my dollars than send 352k to someone I don't know and HEY!!! I have never for once discredit the good side of it so you don't need to make me sound bad to others. I was only trying to raise a point BASED on my opinion that people should get dollar card not just for application fee payment, but also useful when they eventually travel abroad. We all have different principles and different pattern of operations and Please let this issue die down. I'm sorry if you take it in another way, but I still stick to my point and please respect my opinion as I have yours.

Enjoy the rest of your day sir! smiley

I see your point Femi321 with doing business here as I have done some myself in the past too.
However, people should sha be careful especially those who come here to brag.
I have learnt recently that most na hot lies and sometimes aimed at scamming
people. One 'ode' that was active in 2014/2015 here and even abused
ebdib then is actually a serial liar and fraud and I found out he had two monikers.
Deactivated one minutes after I called him out. Claimed he wrote the exam, applied
to schools and even went to the embassy. Mumu is now is now doctoring emails in a
WhatsApp group and validating nonsense claims with my name.
See how people were hailing his fictitious GRE score back then

Be mindful of who you pm and transact business with
from here especially the braggadocious ones. Some will also send you PM and never reply, only to start sending you
nonsense message to come and buy land or to click on some stupid links using a completely different email address.

How much is the tuition?

I want to use this opportunity to inspire prospective US graduate students. Please also apply to big and expensive schools. They have more funding. I got a an award of almost $24k a year in George Washington University. Whn I started the journey with GW I had no tuition just accomodation in that area. But I prayed hard for a miracle and it came in form of this award. Nigerians shy away from the school because we feel it's too expensive, but they really have good funding opportunities so it's a good try. Just want to Inspire others to try Thier luck. I have learnt a lot from this thread Thank You and best wishes.

You wrote as though the rest of us were doing it wrong and you were trying to correct us. We were eager to know how to do it better, only for you to say you have your way.

The thing with dollar card is sourcing dollar to fund it. For the sake of the higher limit, people who can afford the black market rate or know how to source for $ can get the card and use it for payments. It works fine.

For those going to US soon, you can start sending dollars to ur sibling's or friend's US account using Paypal. The person keeps the money for you till you come over. Or if you have a dom account, the person sends it there immediately. You can send up to $500 or $1000 monthly. I know GTB rate is 320 for $100 limit and Access rate is 325 for $200 limit monthly. If you get 2 GTB and 2 Access cards, thats $600 montly and in 5 months its $3000. Also paypal take little charges for the transfers but this is cheaper for me than going to mallan.

I haven't tried this method but i know it works. My friends do it. I will start next month. This method is asides sending money via Moneygram at the Banks, and you should try Moneygram now, things are a bit relaxed with fx at the Banks. Also process your Form A and PTA early before things will tighten up again.

5.5 AWA shocked Really?
Anyway, I get your point too and this is one of the things I'm trying to avoid. I mean PMing people and doing business behind the scene. I agree there are lots of good people on the thread no doubt, but its more of a personal opinion like i keep emphasizing; I'll rather do it physically with people I can see. I don't PM or respond to any PM either. I prefer asking and responding via the thread.

That looks like you've got funds to tide you over. However, i forgot to ask - what city are you both moving to? That determines how far your assistantship dollars will go for a family (remember you will have to carry health insurance for your wife and child which will cut into your funds).

Based on your RA grant, you will likely make approximately $1600/month. Do the math, is this enough to pay for rent, maintain a car, food, utility bills etc? Those are the things the VO will consider in deciding whether to grant your wife a visa to essentially be a stay-at-home mom for 5 years.

Also note, if you're selling your land and taking your wife and kid... what would you have to prove ties at your interview?

Thanks TWoods,
City is Texas. Yeah, I am aware of the health insurance for wifey and baby. I am not starting immediately to pay rents, car and utilities. I have a friend to stay with for a while. He is in the same school and he is very stable. Of course, I am not going to bank on him for the long run, just a month or two.
On ties, I still have other landed properties and I am still maintaining my federal government job. I will receive a study leave from my office and not quitting the job. I will also have the letter for the study leave with me on the interview.
Thank you very much!

It amazes me how people still let others dictate to them how much rate and things. Its 2017 people. We already have dollar master cards being issued by our banks. Economy might be bad, but our banking system aint that bad. I just signed up with SkyeBank dollar card with $3000 monthly limit unlike my GT naira card $100/month limit.

It just baffles me reading on here when people need dollar or naira, i never knew nairaland is now some bureau de change giving rooms for potential scammers and scammees. Go and open a domiciliary/dollarcard account and you would make any payment from here rather than lobbying on Nairaland. Goshhh. angry
Thank you so much for your input bro. Meaning i can make the payment using the skyebank dollar card??
