Okay so this thread has been super useful and informative to me I have decided to grow it by giving back!I had my visa interview in Lagos yesterday and the transcript is below:
DH: Gd day ma'm
V.O: gdmorning, how are u both related?
DH: we are married.
V.O: for how long?
DH: ...............
VO: Any kids?
DH: No but we are expecting
VO: So what exactly do u do in your place of work.
DH: .......................
VO: what is your highest qualification?
DH:...........................
VO: turns to me and asks me to describe my job role and my highest qualification
Me:................
VO: what's your purpose of traveling?
DH: childbirth
VO: so how do u intend to afford it when yo have been married for a short time, have u been able to save?
DH: I had savings before marriage which was in a fixed deposit.
V.O: ok so have you contacted any doctor and do you have any idea what it would cost?
Me: Yes I did some research and I came across my doctor who has high ratings and I contacted him. Here is the correspondence indicating the cost as well.
VO: glances through and nods! Am glad you chose a good hospital.
VO: Do u have any relatives in US?
Me: No I don't.
V.O:where wld you be staying?
Me:I intend to use Soulcare concierge, I contacted them and I was sent a copy of their rates which I used to plan.
V.O:How long do u intend to stay?
Me: 8 weeks
V:O: I think that is too short cos baby may be too tender to fly. Contact your doctor and ensure you fly at the appropriate time with the baby.
V.O turns to D.H and jokingly asks if he wld be going with me or when the baby arrives.
DH: smiles and says he wld be there much later to welcome baby because of work.
V.O: ok that's great! Your visa wld be ready in 3working days.bla bla bla
Hope this helps some one.. grin

Good things happen to people who are honest. Welcome to America.

Hello everyone, please my 26 weeks pregnant sister and her hubby are going to Colorado, I booked an Etihad flight to New York (for POE) and another connecting flight to Colorado. I hope they won't encounter any problems. She's actually going for a medical test and they intend staying for just 2weeks.my fear now is that won't they be questioned at the PO for coming via new york and won't they think they are coming for child Birth? We are all scared ooo. Lol. Pls advice......

I don't think there's anything wrong with the POE so far they have there connecting flight booking but it's in abu dhabi they''ll meet cbp(so I've read here), so if they are cleared there then no issues in NY

Lol wait. How do you buy tickets before? You go to the office? I've always paid online for airline tickets as it's usually cheaper online than when you go to the ticket office. You're fine, pay away grin
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by ifyalways(f): 12:35am On Mar 11, 2017
From cheapticket.com or any other related websites?
Be very careful, i'd say.

Buying from such sites in Naija can be very tricky, unless it re-directs you to the airline website before payment, shine your eyes.

Sometimes they merge two or more airlines with no code-sharing agreement, long unrealistic transit times etc.

Just note the airline, flight number and go search directly on the airlines website. Don't pay on third party websites.

Hello, I have been a silent reader of this thread and it was helpful in securing my visa today. I was asked similar questions other people were asked. The only Different question was "What is your educational qualification". I was surprised to be the only person for interview today. Abi people no dey go america because of Trump?

I am currently having a problem of booking an airline. I intend travelling next week and my pregnancy will be 34weeks by then. Wakanow said no airline will carry me if i am above 32 weeks. They said it is a new rule or so. I called airfrance and they also insisted on 32 weeks. Is there any airline that can accept me at 34Weeks?

@Sophiamax16, its just a pity that people will do everything right as they could and still be deported back,.because judging by this story, they did all they could do starting from using their visas for the purpose it was issued to them, then writing the embassy to inform them of their plans to give birth with the visa afterwards, having sufficient Cash as they said and even paying their hospital bill in advance.. its just bad Luck or may be the CBP officer woke up angry with left hand,Lol. They spent their hard earned money for nothing,.But thank God that his wife and Baby is fine. All in all, thats why people are advised to avoid Houston & Chicago POE's Because what works for one might not work for another especially in this Trump Era.

Hello emerald, pls does the doctors fee include lab tests and scans? Also, are there any other bills involved? What accommodation are you using that's close by? Cos I'm presently torn between elpaso and Houston. Thanks

Yes it includes lab tests and scans. For anesthesia;$750, epidural; $450. I think pediatrics will only be sent after you ve been discharged. I suggest you call and ask for a breakdown.
For now I got a sub-let 25-30 mins to the hospital. I have no ideas about accomodation that are closer.

@esosawura
if you are in san antonio, why do you want to go all the way to HNWM. its quite a distance or do you plan moving closer?

Esosawura:

Good morning mamas. In the spirit of giving back @my Poe experience
I flew Turkish airline on Sunday. My fit to fly was accepted so I wasn't sent to port health.
Our flight got delayed when we arrived at instanbul so they just gave us free meal tickets at the airport.
We arrive jfk on Monday
I used the self service thing machine to scan my passport then I proceeded to the cbp officer (the queue was quite long but moved fast)
Cbp officer:Good evening can I have your passport please
Me: evening sir. And I gave him my passport
Cbp : are you hear to have your baby
Me :yes I am
Cbp: do you have a dr
Me:yes I do. And I have all the corespondence. I was about bringing it out for him to see the he said don't worry and then stamped me in and said welcome to America.
That was it. Nothing was checked. I proceeded to the immigration officer. She requested for the print out that was stamped. Collected it and said I can go. I was the one that asked her about the form they gave us to fill in d plane ( d immigration form where you declare what you have on you) she said no need. And that was it o. I wasn't even directed to agriculture...
I was surprised o but thankful to God. I'm now chilling in San Antonio with my aunty. Will be using HNWM. I'll surely come and say my experience afterwards. Thanks to all the mamas and papas in this forum for all the helpful hints that made me prepared for this trip. God bless

go to the passport office with your flight ticket and tell them you have less than two weeks to come back, the process will take less than two days and the passport will be ready!

Omo dis houston US passport people are not joking(no more walk in) u are only advised to walk in 48hrs to ur travel time Na wao. So when planning to give birth in houston plan your travel time in a way that u can get good available time to process the baby's passport. Better still you book appointment as soon as u give birth.

Unfortunately, you have no legal recourse to challenge a CBP officer's decision. While true that the family did nothing wrong, I think the CBP has also made clear that having a visa does not give you a right to enter the United States.

It was in Lagos.

Is anybody having same problem as mine regarding flight booking? Wakanow said no airline will carry me if i am above 32 weeks. They said it is a new rule or so. I called airfrance and they also insisted on 32 weeks. Can anybody who recently flew at 33 weeks and above inform me the airline she used?
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by Nobody: 9:58am On Mar 11, 2017
I just called delta airlines and they have no restrictions....Thank God. Most of the airlines have this new restriction of 32 weeks despite 36weeks being on their website.

I would like to ask, what is the maximum amount of cash someone can carry to travel? I intend going with about 15K USD. Someone told me it is 10k that is the maximum.

Do i need to get yellow card? Where can i process it if needed?
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by Terese69: 10:14am On Mar 11, 2017
I travelled with 17k in 2015. I declared it on my landing card and didn't have any problem.

They have got to be kidding sad What will one be doing before baby arrives? About 2 and half months of my mat leave will have been wasted on waiting for baby to come. I hope this is not true o

You can travel with 15k. You just have to declare it.

Please how were you able to get a reasonable fare with Delta? Their fares have been ridiculous since January.

I bought my ticket through wakanow. When I saw your message, I quickly, called Turkish airline to confirm, I Was told I could fly at 35weeks+ with a fit to fly report from my doctor. The wakanow agent that helped me get my ticket also said 32 weeks. I think you should contact the airline directly.
