It's like you intentionally gave Dike that name

And to your question,Mia isn't really the one to be blamed but that her mother. I don't want to call her useless but she is not a mother. She tore her life apart and just imagine the kind of emotional and psychological trauma she is going through, her life isn't going right. The only place she has presumed love is with Dike n you want to take it from her again, she will do anything just to have him.

I have a question,is this how it happens in Igbo land?

Chumzypinky the name of ur characters is misleading, u should have used Ahmed or musa instead of Dike,
And to answer ur question take note.
1: igbo monarch does not marry than one wife.
2: we dont have female chiefs
3: u marries when ur grown up to man ur house; not a man of 50yrs marrying a gal of 13yrs.
So it is typically the people of the North cultures.

Tradition....
'at least y'all will not say i didnt warn you' Dora said 'i knew this was going to happen in the first place. I tried stopping it but of course Chinny the gangster thought....'

'is this the right time to apportion blames now Dora?' Edna cut in 'Chinny is not in the right state of mind to be blamed'

'well someone needs to speak the truth. Chinny's the cause of all this problems. We all know how hard-hearted Dike is' Dora hissed.

'so are you now trying to say that what Dike did was justified?' Flora asked angling her head to meet Dora's gaze.

'Dike's actions can never be justified. He was wrong. He should never have hurt Chinny. But we cant just get over the fact that we provoked him. If we hadnt done what he did, then this would never have happened. We should learn to avoid trouble when we can'

'so all this now is our fault?' Benita asked.

'of course!'

There was silence. They were grateful that Chinny and Adanna sustained no injuries. They both just complained of headache and had refused to eat.

'well, are we still protesting today? Because i find the protest very interesting' Dora said sarcastically.

'Dora. Dora. Dora' Chinny called quietly 'how many times did i call you?'

'huh? Three times of course'

'you'd better watch your tongue. I might not be feeling too well now. But that doesnt mean i'll not attack you if you make anymore snide remark. Be warned' Chinny said in an audible whisper.

'are you threatening me?'

'Dora its okay nah! Your own sef dey your body. Leave this poor girl alone, ahn!' Benita hissed.

'anyway sha, the fly thats so stubborn to listen to other people's advice follows the corpse to the grave' Dora rolled her eyes.

The door opened and Dike walked in. Everyone froze. Their hearts pounding. What would Dike do this time?

'good afternoon Dike' They all chorused except Chinny who just rolled her eyes and let out an inaudible hiss.

'good afternoon y'all' he responded. His gaze focused on Chinny.

Dora put on her best smile as she rose on her feet 'you're back so early. I'll get you your food now' To avoid anymore problems. But of course, she didnt say that loud.

'no dont worry, i'm not hungry' He walked to where Chinny sat and sat beside her. They all exchanged glances 'hi Chinny'

She looked at him as if he had grown three heads 'huh? You said?'

'i said hi'

She looked back at Dora who had a confused look then back to him 'did you take something strong?'

Normally Dike would have frowned. But this time, he laughed.

'i got this for you' He handed the nylon over to her 'i am very sorry about what happened last night. What i did to both Adanna and you. It really wasnt my intention and i'm so sorry about everything. I apologise to both you and Adanna. It will never happen again'

'are you serious?!' Dora exclaimed. She couldnt believe this. She ought to be dreaming 'Dike! Whats wrong? I dont understand' She shook her head.

Dike ignored her. Then he went to Adanna and reached for her fingers 'i'm sorry too. You've always been nice to me. You especially but i've never noticed that. Yesternight i went overboard and i'm feeling guilty about it. Will you please forgive me?'

Adanna suddenly bursted into tears.

'here' Chinny said to Dike placing the fancy bag back on his laps 'have it back. Because i dont need it. I've forgiven you. I hold nothing against you. You've done things worse than this Dike and you never apologise and yet i forgive you. This is no exception. You dont need to buy me gifts to earn my forgiveness. What difference does it make anyway? Not like you're gonna change. We've learnt to manage you that way. So here, take your gift back'

'Chinny!' Dora called covering her mouth with her palms.

Dike looked at the package and smiled 'if you dont accept this gift, it simply means you've not forgiven me'

'what difference does it make if i forgive you?' Chinny jumped on her feet 'does it matter to you? Will it make you change? Oh please Dike! Stop pretending to be a saint whereas you're not!'

Now you've gone overboard yourself Chinny. Benita thought. She wished she was in Chinny's position. With Dike asking for forgiveness and presenting her a gift. Oh! How she would kiss and hug him that day.

'i know i'm no saint but i'm...' Dike was saying.

'cut the crap please! Because you obviously do not know what you're doing. You're drunk or high on something strong. I refuse your gifts Dike! Give them to someone who's more concerned about them. Because as for me, i refuse to take it from you. And this'd better be the last time you violate me, else i'll report you to the Igwe and i'll file a report against you. And even if you come out of it, you'll never come out of the media's gossip. Dike Ikemba, CEO of Dike's Empire, crownprince of Umuzulu, violates his wife. Try me again and see if that would not come out as a headline. Rubbish!' She eyed him, hissed and walked away.

well i dont know about that. But in my grandmother told me that in her time/her mother's time, this used to happen.
However, the difference is, the wives you marry as a crownprince, would not be the same when you become king. Thats after the seven wives you marry as a crownprince, they would be sacrificed to the gods as you become enthroned. Its said that their blood cleanses the throne and your regime.
It got to a point that once it was time for the crownprince to marry, parents sent away their female daughters to a very far away land because everyone knew they would be killed later and new ones would be married when he becomes king.
It also got to a point that when maidens were no longer found, they started capturing women, married women for the crownprince. And of couse the men had to send their wives out too.
I wasnt born when all this happened. I heard all of them from my grandmother's mouth. But it no longer happens

Ahhh. I so love Chinny. So gutsy and fiesty. Dike own too much. I totally dislike selfish men. What about if he wasn't d 1 dat chose his wives? D wives weren't the ones dat chose to be married to him either. So y treat dem abominably? I really don't understand why most women will endure all sorts in marriage, I know I can't. If my husband should be mad to try such rubbish on me ehn... Hmm make I no talk cos those wey know me know say I no dey take rubbish and abuse is number one...

So far Chumzy, I am yet to see anything to criticise about dis story. Keep going strong dear. If I see any, I will surely call ur attention to it.

How's our cute bunny baking in there? My love to ur family.
