Many thanks for your swift reply. I think aside the funding I am expecting which will be more than enough, I have got no job........From bachelors to PhD.... I will be able to show proof of landed properties of my retired parents. However, I don not know if this will be convincing enough to make the VO believe I will be coming back? It all depends on how I present my case.
Your family members here in nigeria is a good hometie. If you can also have assets in YOUR name, it will add too.

Good a thing you are aware that your chances will also be dependent on how you present your case. So do so and hopefully, it will turn out well.

Good day most respected ladies and gentlemen, elders and newbies. I acknowledge you all.
I have been following as a guest and I must commend this particular thread and it's members. You all are superb.
I have read through from part 1 (trust me) and have gathered vital information. God bless you all for the inputs and insights
I just want a few things clarified for me please:
I graduated high school in 2008, worked in a school where I was just paid with an envelop (not through the bank) for about a year and half then stopped. Gained admission in 2010 to study accounting in a polytechnic and got a National Diploma from there in 2012. Worked in an Accounting firm from 2013 to 2015 (still paid with enveloped package) then left by December 2015 precisely. Started arrangements to kick-start my own business and finally got it registered in August 2016 but haven't commenced business. I took up a short job with a school as the School's Accountant from September to December 2016 (I was paid through my account this time) then stopped again. I am currently working with an Artist promotion company in Surulere as the accountant again and being paid through my account too (started on Feb 2017).

Now here's the thing. I want to further my studies in Canada and I am going to be 25 by April.
1. Do I go through just my WAEC result and start as an undergraduate or is there any kind of programme in Canada for OND holders?
2. If I am going with my WAEC, how do I address the issue of gap in the years 2008-2017 and will certified letters from the people I've worked for suffice in place of pay slips (since I was paid through enveloped packages for two jobs I took on)

I am very sorry for the epistle but I had to be as detailed as possible to avoid asking and asking questions all over again. Let me learn now, proceed with my app, get my trv and come back to contribute immensely to this wonderful thread.

Thank you as I get your responses.

Still awaiting your response my elders @folaroyal @michv et al.

Some departments in University of Alberta has not even started accepting or rejecting any applicant..
University of Manitoba, just sent theirs out few weeks ago..

Greetings to the gurus!!!

I am interested in running a Masters (mech engr) in canada preferably, I have also gone through some of the comments and now I am a little bit discouraged with the financial implications especially if I am to sponsor myself full-time without scholarship nor going for research based courses which i may not be interested. Now my questions are

1. With a budget of 5m, can one run this program.?
2. If yes, what are your suggested cheap schools one can apply inline with favourable standard of living ?......

Hi guys, I am looking to submit my student visa app by the end of this month, but i have few questions.

1)my major sponsor's Intl passport is expired and she is not looking to get it renewed anytime soon. Is it OK to include it in my application like that?

2) do I have to book for upfront medicals or do I just visit the designated medical practitioner at working hours?

3) which route is most adviceable, paper/online?

4) Can I get an experienced person to help review my app before submission?

This forum as saved me money....Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the rich Info's we have here.
1.Any other identification document of your sponsor is fine.

2.Most CIC approved hospital will require that you book an appointment ahead either through a call or email.

3.Both routes are advisable. Online was introduced for just convenience. Both are subject to the same review and processing time.

4.From the information here, You too can become experienced. If you make out time to read carefully, you can fully review your application yourself. Most things and area you need to put in place have been and still being discussed here.

Guys, I am Hamid by name. I applied to the University of Saskatchewan and my offer letter is here(PhD Biomedical Engineering), I await funding. Could you please let me know how long it takes for the Canadian embassy to process study permits? In addition, what documents do you think will be necessary for the application process?

I am interested in your kind of documents
-BSc course/grade?
-MSc course/ grade?
Did you get a supervisor prior to admission?

Thanks

If you really want to study... Pls go for an UG course. Your OND will fetch you nothing but at most an advanced diploma (in the like of HND) not even a PGD/C.... And honesty i do not know how well you want to convince a VO to approve an advance diploma program for you! ... Practical example; I had to do a Bachelor's degree in UK after my HND in Nigeria cos i realized HND has been so relegated to the back seat in Nigeria!

2. If I am going with my WAEC, how do I address the issue of gap in the years 2008-2017 and will certified letters from the people I've worked for suffice in place of pay slips (since I was paid through enveloped packages for two jobs I took on) .
I have not seen any gap in your illustration here.... All the dates have a particular program/activity against them... You will provide in your form this same info as you outlined above... And i thought you mentioned they can give you introduction letters?... Excellent!
Either they have paid through envelope or sack!

Apparently a PhD is appropriate in the circumstance. It is generally regarded as an academic progression over Master's degree. While a PGD is an academic regression when you already bagged a Master's degree.

VOs are always inclined to generally favour applicants going for a program obviously considered an advancement to existing qualifications.

So, yes, a PhD will sell easily without iota of doubt as to genuineness of intention to study in Canada.

@ Dokittaa, precisely I graduated from the department of physics, University of Lagos (first class); I also had a my undergraduate thesis published with my supervisor. I am in a Masters program presently with major interest in mathematical biology and modeling ( I am not even done with my MS program), my recent interest spans tumor modeling and I will be completing this program in June. I was admitted into a direct PhD program in the U of S i.e my admission does not depend on my Masters score sheet. For the last part of your question, I would say most schools in Canada without the exception of U of S has this policy of you contacting supervisors first; Yes, I did contact a supervisor who indicated interest in my work in the biomedical engineering department, we had a skype interview session with my prospective co-supervisor and it took like 2 months before he recommended me for admission.

MSC in another related/technical field with strong SOP or PhD.

Do you have at least one year experience in any field? NYSC included. If yes, don't disturb yourself too much. with your MSC, 1 year experience at least, and very good IELTS GT result, you don't have to wait till you study before getting PR. You qualify for something called Express Entry.
When you enter Canada with EE, you can do a new UG if you like to.

Join below group for more info on EE and read from page 0.

Anyone with similar profile should join too and read from page 0. You don't have to wait for years to get PR.

I am sure that is the aim of 99% Nigerians going there for study, learn how you can achieve your aim soon legally. cool
