I woke up this morning with the news that FCSC has shortlisted lists of successful candidates in the ongoing recruitment exercise by the Commission in various Federal Ministries.

Succinctly, I have a friend who studied Business Administration with 3rd Class, while I have Msc and Bsc (2.1) all in Economics. Both of us applied for the same position (SGL 09) in the Ministry of Trade & Investment. Perhaps, to my greatest perplexity, this guy's name was shortlisted while mine was conspicuously missing. Just a few minutes ago he opened up to me that the father made "some calls" on his behalf prior to this time.

For your information, we are of the same age bracket, applied for same position, from the same State. So what criteria could have been used to disqualify someone with Msc and Bsc (2.1) and someone with a 3rd Class was selected.

Holding other factors constant, I am so happy for him and I am so expectant that mine is coming. But this has kept me in an awe position, as the whole scenario depicts lack of correlation between merit and success in this entity called Nigeria.

WHAT A COUNTRY? So help us God!

3rd or 2.1 apart, so in your thinking a 3rd Class holder should be selected ahead of a Masters degree holder ?
Uncle calm down don't be pained cause someone got a chance while you didn't. don't lay so much emphasis on class of degree we all know how things work in this country some people did a lot of funny stuff to get the results they have with due respect to the people who actually worked hard for theirs. I graduated with 2.2 I know a lot of people who graduate with 2.1 and first class that I am better than having graduated from better by far university my #unilorin people I hail oh..but am not here rubbing it in their faces when you say things like this you are disrespecting a lot of people with lower class of degree..God help us all

Yes he may show better aptitude for the job, some of these paper 2.1, first class n msc were bought you kw.

This is why employers give aptitude test and shortlist those dt pass their aptitude test irrespective of class of degree.

So if u fail their aptitude test they shld shortlist you BC u ve MSC what nonsense are you saying?

Another confirmation below by another poster to what l said this morning, those who can read the writing on the wall knows better but you choose to remain blind forming useless patriotism instead of holding your useless leaders accountable for grounding the country, a country where merit is thrown to the dogs and it is man-knows-man, nonsense wink

Well said, l agree wink

If you think Nigeria is useless then what does that make you as a Nigerian citizen? That tag should fit you perfectly, so make yourself useful by lending a helping hand to someone in need

#BringBackOurEmployment# (A call for protest)

Fellow Nigerians,
The time has come for us to come together in solidarity and rally for our collective good. The time has come for we the youth to wake up from our slumber. The time has come for us to take what is rightfully ours. The time has come for us to speak out against the enemies and progress of our country Nigerian. The time has come for us to stand up and speak with one voice.
Fellow Nigerians, we must say enough of favoritism, god-fatherism, nepotism and tribalism at the ways and manner sons and daughters of the powerful are been recruited into the federal civil service.
Fellow Nigerians, i will like to draw to your notice that the entire recruitment process was a fraud and big scam, every name on the list has already been pre-arranged, organised and executed.

We noticed a lot of irregularities and fraud in the already released list (batch A) which include
1. Why would the name of a graduate with 3rd CLASS be on the list of a position meant for a GL10 officer, which was supposed to be a position occupied by a Masters degree holder. "big slap to education"
2. Why was the finance ministry not published or released in some state?
3. Why was some state not equally represented? "wat happened to the quater system we have been practicing all dis years"
4. The most qualified were not selected in terms of qualifications "abi sey we no get Ph.D and Masters holders who applied for dis jobs"
5. Why would a B.sc graduate who graduated 2015 be considered over a graduate with masters degree and with a B.Sc certificate dated 2009. "everthing no just understand me anymore"
6. Why would a 3rd class graduate be selected over a masters degree holder, who also applied for the same position. "make dem tell us d technique dem take select dem"

Fellow Nigerians the time to speak up is now. we the youth must wake up and say NO to all this happening at the federal civil service commission. That is why we must all gather ourselves at the federal civil service gate on tuesday 21st of march for a mass protest to show solidarity and say enough-is-enough.
Fellow Nigerians, we must all come out in mass for this protest. Thanks

DATE: TUESDAY 21ST, MARCH 2017

This is a very good and holistic write up. But FCSC didn't give people the chance to proof any thing you wrote here. That is the problem.

PS. I didn't get it the wrong way Lolz. I'm also involved in other talent development stuffs etc. For CV I know different CV methods and use the one that best suits the job or counrty. My only problem and the reason I commented on this post is just to throw more light on our messed up system. All the same I like your level of thinking. Some people are just going so off.

I'm sorry about your experience with the FCSC. And yes I also agree with your assessment of our messed-up system. But having sat on different job interview panels, I know for sure that a university degree is often overrated. What the right-thinking employer is looking for is not a boring quipp that one had a first-class...but the demonstration of a sound intellect. Yes man-no-man is rife, but then a firstclass graduate should be able to distinguish himself/herself at interviews... I had once been on a panel that interviewed more than 60 candidates for openings at my establishment, and in came in this young woman with a firstclass degree. We all were pleasantly shocked how good she was. At some point I had to wade in to ask her questions beyond her immediate area of training and she was ready for me. It was simply impossible not to hire a talent like that.

And as for you, the loss is the FCSC's: an institution that closes its doors to bright candidates will soon start dying from within, because the ideas by which it should have thrived will be a scarce commodity for them.

It's only in our country ! First class candidates think, the result guarantee's job placement.

You need to pass the interview, you need to fit into the social system of the organization. There are so many qualities that one needs to possess for a job. Especially in organization's with strong cultures.

If your so good academically, go and become a professor. Is that not the route people follow in the west ?

Well for the low minded people that don't think or understand discussions before talking. I have what I'm doing and yes I have learnt and still learn various skills. Finally we are taking about the corrupt practices in the country. So if you don't have anything to contribute or say about the system then close your mouth.

What's your issue with them?

Realdeals:

What's the job requirement? does it include M.sc?

I have issues with people that proceed for their M.sc immediately after B.sc without any field experience, some even goes for Phd. We lay too much emphasis on certificate and grades over field experience.

Having 3rd class or 2.1 ... Oga the biggest and richest people in my set in uni have 3RE class,Oga I did engineering, while 2.1 and others were folding theirs hands and sitting on the fence they went forward and did courses like pdms and computer aided design, became word literate and became businessmen while the high grade people with 1970 degree knowledge sat down expecting to live happily ever after ..... Succinctly, I have a friend who studied Business Administration with 3rd Class, while I have Msc and Bsc (2.1) all in Economics. For your information, we are of the same age bracket, applied for the same position, from the same State.

This is "normal" in the labor force unfortunately. Right information and networking are one of the "keys" to landing a job anywhere. Take heart and continue the hustle. My former supervisor once told me that "good grade gets you an interview, it does not get the job done."
