"I know you must call me,..... So tell me, have you changed your mind?,.... When do you plan to collect her dowry from her people"


"Mummy, pls listen first..... I have thought deeply about the whole issue"

"I think She needs to go for a DNA test to confirm the paternity of her baby,...... Till then, i dont have anything to say about the pregnancy"



"You are very stupid,..... Who even brought up the idea of DNA test,..... I know it's Amaka's handwork,..... She's only jealous of the poor girl,...... There's no need for a DNA test, that baby is yours and you must marry Lizzy!, this is my final decision!" she screamed on the phone


The phone went dead, Nelson tried calling her back, but she refused picking his calls.


"I dont really understand mum,Is there something she's hiding from us?, why does she suddenly like Lizzy and desperately wants her as a daughter in law?, i think something is wrong somewhere" Nelson reasoned



"I think so too, her sudden change of character and now Lizzy,...... I believe strongly that there's something fishy"






***** I was able to convince Nelson to postpone our wedding, i needed time to figure out what is going on, we 've not heard from Lizzy for sometime, her silence is making me suspect she's planning something evil.


I dont want to have a wedding where my mother in law would be absent, i need the family to be in peace, before thinking of wedding.



******My first Semester exam had just finished,......... i was in my husband's house relaxing after preparing dinner, when my phone rang.

It was my mother calling,

"Mama, hope you're ok?," i asked with a trembling hand


"Amaka, where're you?," she asked with a low tone

"I'm in my husband's house,... Why do you ask?,"


"This is something i would've loved to discuss with you face to face, but distance wouldn't let me,........... My daughter,..... Pls dont lie to me,... Just tell me the truth...... "



" Mama what truth?,.... You're scaring me oooo, go straight to the point and talk, "


" Are you in good terms with your aunty?, "she asked

I pretended not to know what she was talking about,


" Hmmmmm, which of my aunties?, "


" How many of your aunties are close to you,...... Dont play with my intelligence......... Just answer my question...... Are you in good terms with Amanda? "



" yes na, we're in good terms,...... As i'm talking to you now, i just left her place"i lied

Her words lifted me up

"Now listen,...... I had a terrible dream some weeks ago.... I met Rev. Fr. Nonso, he interpreted the dream to me,..... He was the one that revealed everything to me,........ He gave me 7days prayers,...... After i completed it, more things were revealed to him....... Amanda has a big secret that is affecting her now,.... Her past deed is hunting her now,....... I begged Fr. Nonso to tell me the secret but he said the secret shall unfold itself,......... I've known your aunty since childhood, we grew up together, she was a good girl before she left the village for Ogun state where her aunty leaves,....... It was when she was forced to marry her husband that she ran back to the village,.... I prayed over her marriage and assured her that this forced marriage is a blessing in disguise for her, because she suffered alot in the village before going to Ogun state.,............. I dont know if she did anything bad while at Ogun state,... "


" This is beyond me oooo, "


" " My daughter prayer is the key, you need to be closer to God,..... Now take these verses and prayers,......"


She read out the verses and prayers to me,


"Mama, am i to fast too?"


"Of course, add fasting to it, at least 6-12,......Rev.said,you must visit your mother in law on the seventh day of your prayer , that is the last day, ask her for forgiveness, you shall be shocked at what will happen,....... My daughter pls, always visit the chapel, pour your heart to God,...... This is not a physical battle "

She cut the phone.


I stood speechless,..... This Rev. Fr is too much, he saw everything

I made up my mind to start attending church programmes.



My husband returned later to inform me that Lizzy called him,........ He said they would go for the test the next day, i told him to be careful with her.





The test was done, and the result would come out the next day,i was drawing closer to God in my prayers, i attend early morning mass, at the end of it, i spend time in the chapel praying, i prayed without ceasing, i begged God to take control of the test,Nelson noticed how religious i had become in two days.


"Baby, you seem to be religious this past days, hope all is well?"


"Yes dear, i now believe that with God all things are possible" i told him with confidence


"Hmmmmm, i like your zeal, just keep it up"


His phone rang,..... Daddy was calling



"Nelson,!, i want to see you and your wife in my house tomorrow,"


"Daddy when did you return from your tri........."

The line was dead


"Daddy doesnt sound ok, i think mum has told him what happened. But i'll face them squarely"

"Baby calm down, we need to pray over this,.......... i told him to kneel down let us pray.



He knelt down without argument and we prayed together,.......... This has never happened....... My husband has never prayed before..... I was happy that we prayed together as one family.







***,, We arrived the family house around 3pm,daddy was already sitted waiting, mummy was there too, Chy and Chizzy were around, Lizzy was sitting down, her baby bump was showing a little, i cared less



I greeted everyone and sat down, mummy ignored me as usual,i sat close to my husband.



"Nelson i'm totally disappointed with you, how could you allow this to happen?, why did you want to disgrace your family, have you forgotten my reputation.......... Just look at the mess you've gotten yourself into,..... Do you want to marry two wives?,........... "

He brought out the result, and continued



"i will take my final decision after seeing this result,..... And nobody should blame me," he said pointing at the envelope,

I've never seen dad looking this mean


He tore the envelope open, and went through the result



He handed it over to Neslon,


. "Daddy, this cant be possible,....... I didnt do it,...... I'm not the father of this baby,..... He turned to me

" Baby, do you believe this? I know you dont, pls dont believe it.......... Lizzy pls tell them the truth,..... Save me from this shame," Nelson was crying like a baby



Chy and Chizzy stood crying and begging their daddy,i couldn't see clearly, i stood up to leave but my legs were trembling,...... I sat back on the sofa,


Nelson knelt down holding my leg



"Baby, pls dont leave me, dont listen to her, i'm about loosing my family and i cant stand loosing you too" he begged



"Nelson!!!!!!!!!," daddy fired


" I strip you of your position in my company,.......The house you're living in was built with the company 's fund, you have 24hours to vacate the house,............ The police will be there to see to your exit..... I shall inform Amaka's people to return her dowry, this marriage seizes to hold,............ Amaka i dont want to see you around this useless boy,........ Look for a reponsible man to marry and forget about him............henceforth, you're no longer my son,...... Kingsley is now my first son............ "



His last statement came as a shock, even mummy never expected that



" Aaaaahhhh, daddy, the punishment is too much ooo, how will he survive?, remember he's about to start a new family"mummy begged him



"He'll suffer to take care of his family, his wife will help him build up his own empire,.... He'"s leaving this house emty-handed"



"Aaaaaah, Nooo ooo, i wont marry a poor man,this wasnt the plan na,........ Mummy do something ooooo,..... Why am i still fighting when i've lost everything,........... Mummy this wasnt our plan oooo" Lizzy said


Everyone turned to Lizzy, what plan was she talking about?,


Mummy was giving her signs to shut up,.............


"Aaaah, mummy, this is getting out of hand, how could daddy disown Nelson, what will i gain again, all my efforts are in vain, my mother will kill me." Lizzy continued



We stood watching her. Mummy was so ashamed of herself. Daddy was looking at her with the look of "What is going on Here?



" Amanda what is going on here"!!!!!!!!




"Take us to the hospital where this test was conducted,..... I need to speak to the doctor,..... If this result was tampered with........ I shall lock both of you up for the rest of your miserable life" daddy warned her.
