OP I will advise you to start small. Look for an internship position or apply as a volunteer. Am graduating with a 2 2 in marine engineering and while my mates are aiming high class shipping liners am looking for an intern or volunteer position. The key thing to get now is experience and once you get that no one cares about your grade.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with you and your 2:2; what you need is some experience, i will advise you to look for a small firm and offer your services for free. After about 6 months to one year, the response from the firms you apply to will be different. You just need to have something on your CV and in a little while you will explode beleive me. Thats the same route i went and im a senior manager in a multinational now.

Thank you very much sir .

You are a very brave woman but I am assuring that Job will come looking for you. I'll implore you to be persistent in your quest for a better Job and also acquire some additional skills to help cushion the effect the discrimination.
I am a 2.2 graduate and I'm employed with a reasonable remuneration from my employer.
God is sufficient for you my dear sister.

Hello,

I hope you all are doing fine .

I graduated from the University with a Second Class Lower (Bsc Economics), Missed 2.1 by 0.01 point . A partly qualified Accountant who has good knowledge of Taxation , Audit , Financial reporting and Microsoft Office suite. I am still hunting for Job.

I would see a lovely vacancy that I would want to apply for, reading through the requirements, I would realize that the minimum requirement is a 2.1.

I would give my CV to people and they would say "No, We cant help you . You made a 2.2 .

All these denials just because I didnt make a 2.1

Lessons for undergraduates still in school :

-Try as much as possible to graduate with not less than a 2.1
-Graduating with a 2.2 might deny you from getting certain benefits.
- Ignore those that say , "Even first class still dey look for Job, who 2.1 help?"
- Trust in God.

Kindly ask yourself this question before feeling condemned, what can i do with my hands? That you graduated with a 2.2 does not make you a dullard. Equip yourself and sell yourself right.

That you are still job hunting is your personal problem.

Your comment Trust in God contradicts your statements above about making a better grade in school. If you trust in God then even if you graduate with a Pass or 3rd class God would help you so why talk about being denied benefits because you made a 2.2?

I am a Chartered Accountant (would very soon be a Fellow in ICAN), Chartered IT Professional in the UK, with senior banking sector experience from Nigeria and the UK. I am NOT religious and never had connection. And I made a 3rd class, I struggled and it paid of.

Thank you very much sir .

You are welcome bro, all the best. NEVER feel downcast; i made a 2:2 myself but in the corporate world nobody cares about the class of your degree. Only results matter. When i start my own business, i will even employ people who made pass and keep promoting them as long as they can give me results.

its clear that some people here graduated with really poor degrees that's why they dish out meaningless insults. to be honest getting jobs in Nigeria doesn't have much to do with your degree but by connections but having a good degree gives the individual a better chance. to those who say it doesn't matter I can assure you that times are changing. while searching for work the class of degree becomes a question normally heard from helpers and employers. so to those still in school have a good grade to reduce the burden of those who may assist you in getting a job because you aren't the only person chasing that position so the helper would need something good to push your c.v above others.
and to the O.P am currently unemployed with a 2.1 but instead of wallowing a way I have started my own business and gone into investments with the cash I saved from service and school. so stop bitching and put what you learnt in school to work cool

@Op stop applying for jobs online. Go to companies and tender ur cv. Online jobs attract too many CVs which u may not be able to scale through if they are to be sorted out based on grades or experiences(unless u have the latter).

Why give your CV when you haven't reached the requirements? Yes...I do get your point that one should always try to do their best.... but at the same time even if you fall short of the requirements for 'a lovely vacancy' you can start at a lower level and in time move up and above with the same qualifications.
