Anytime I am tempted to buy fcmb and fbn,I get scared away when I take a look at their results again and again.
Remove the paper profit of fx revaluation from their PAT and the two banks will end up with a loss.
Q1 result will be very interesting, will their be fx revaluation again to boost profit? Will they report a negative/positive net income if there is no fx revaluation?? Time and only time will tell....

FBN is one to watch out for ith keen interest. I look at this company in 2 different lights:

i). What has it done with it's toxic loans at the end of 2015FY. ii) What it's plans were and what id did in 2016.

These 2 will be made visible when it's FY16 result is released. Let me quickly say, irrespective of the FY16 result, I expect strong performance in 2017 numbers.

FBN said it will not increase loan book in 2016(q1 and q3 conference calls) and with the enticing FI instrument you can bet that the bank did not create any loans in 2016. Thus no new bad loans in 2016(management and board members are slightly better. Mrs Awosika is my fav here).

The bank siad it's top revenue earner as at Q3 were from transactional income(this a a sustainable and huge revenue source as compared to loan creations as it doesn't come with NPL). FBN is ahead in the online payment channel(info from interswitch and NBS).

NPL for 2015FY was high 20+(I guess), and the Q2devaluation of the naira normally should skyrocket this ratio as most of this loans were dollar denominated. However the NPL was about 25% as at Q3. My take is that the impact of devaluation as masked the improvement in NPL as at Q3.

Let me add this, FBN has a arm FBNQUEST(or CAPITAL) whose operation is similar to UCAP. It's a cash cow.

Anyway the FY RESULT will settle the dust on FBN and I will buy bigly(TRUMP'S TONE grin grin) afterwards. I buy in trickles at the moment.

FCMB WILL BE FINE grin grin. I think the worst is over . Q2-16 got the FX bump and Q4 shows the bank is back in business. The problem with FCMB was the 10k dividend(My brother hasn't recovered from that) undecided

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by BullBearMkt(m):
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS - POWER OF BULLS and BEARS (1)

One of the indicators used by Technical Analyst to determine the dominant power between BULLS and BEARS is MACD Histogram (MACD-H). MACD-H shows not only whether bulls or bear are in control, but also whether they are growing stronger or weaker. A rising MACD-H shows that bulls are becoming stronger while a falling MACD-H shows that bears are getting stronger.

When MACD-H is increasing and price rising, it shows that the uptrend is safe if otherwise, it is questionable...Same is applicable to decreasing MACD-H and falling price.

One way of using this tool is to determine when to expect a "New Peak or Valley". When MACD-H reaches a new high during a rally, it shows that bulls are strong and prices are more likely to retest or exceed its previous peak. And if MACD-H falls to a new low during a downtrend, prices are likely to retest or exceed their latest low...

Check out the chart below, focusing on UPTRENDS (A) and (B) starting with black arrows. First price uptrend begins at (A) marked with the first black arrow and the rally ends at the brown line. MACD-H shows that the bulls are strong as its slope is higher than the previous peaks. With this, we should expect the next price rally to be equal or higher. The next price rally begins at (B) and the price exceed the rally in (A).

Summary
-When MACD-H provides a new high during a rally, prices are more likely to retest or exceed its previous peak
-Give yourself a challenge: study 2 or more stocks and check the validity or otherwise of what mentioned above...

...Good morning and welcome to the last trading day this week. Wishing all GREEN in our accounts today!

Good one
I like the MACD , i use the standard settings and a second MACD with shorter settings
Its interesting to see the behaviour of a stock when macd is below Zero and above zero
Also when you have a buy signal crossover below Zero and above .
Above is more powerful

FBN
- Monthly Macd is very interesting.
- The MACD crossed below signal line mid -2013 (SP ard N17 levels). The buy signal was only last year June ( SP ard 3.6) when the MACD crossed over d signal. BUY and HOLD should consider looking at the monthly oscillators for better timing. they filter all the noise away
