It is clear his program is MS/PhD. You can opt to leave if you want with your masters. There is nothing like treatment.

Either a program uses MS/PhD system or not, a PhD program can award you a MS after your pedagogy year, even if you're going to continue with them. My reply based on what I was told by someone who was asked to leave due to performance. This is why I said "if".

Most national schools in those area won't require you submit SOA during application process. Only lowly ranked schools do. You only get to submit Statement of Account after admission when you need your I-20.
So Google Universities in California and Los Angeles. You will see list of schools. Check out their application requirements and you would be good

not all PhD program does award MS after pedagogy year. If its based on performance, then its bad, but if on the grounds of better offer or research interest, then there is nothing absolutely wrong with changing.

It cannot be paid from Nigeria but yes paid abroad and western union is one way .

you have to just fill your details at the sevis fee website and send a confirmation page that include your details and a coupon number to the person in US . Then the person takes the confirmation page printout to any western union office in the US and makes the payment or use the alternatives payment for Nigerians such as a cheque and mail it

below are the official steps via western union method and its very detailed

Pls if the schools one is applying only make mentions of 'official transcripts' and no mention of WES, does this imply that transcript sent by one's alma mater and not a transcript evaluated by WES would suffice? Thanks

By saying "a PhD program can award you a MS after your pedagogy year....." I means it's possible for a non combined PhD program to award MS after pedagogy year. I wasn't talking of all programs. For example my wife is in a non combined PhD program, she was given a second MS in Dec 2015 and will finish the doctoral program next year. However, I hope everything is fine with the op.

I did not mean dropping out due to bad performance. I'm actually trying to figure if it's possible to get into a lower ranked PhD programme, do well and then use the transcript and certificate obtained after the first two years to apply to another higher ranked programme.

Edited*** Thanks for your responses. Just read through all your comments on the issue, I think I got what you were trying to say. Thanks again.

imperiouxx:

The two bold up don't go together. Why you 'dropped out' from the previous PhD program will call for questioning by the 'top ranked' PhD program. If you dropped out because of bad performance, that's a good reason for the adcom to reject your application when selecting prospective PhD students. Your dropping out is a bad business for the first program, the second program would have learned. My suggestion is for you to apply to programs with different varieties of strength. PhD selection is very competitive, you know this already.

Hello gurus in the house, I'll have been a silent reader of this thread,i must say may God richly bless those of you contributing immensely here. I really need advice from anyone who can help. I'm a bachelor's degree holder in electrical engineering with a GPA of 2.63/5.i intend applying to some university earlier mentioned on this thread which accept that GPA, although I'm still going to Take TOEFL and gre to boost my chances of admission. my intention is immediately i get to US, i want to quit the master's program and start nursing school in that same university or another university or community college.I'm applying for both the nursing and master's here in Nigeria at same time so that immediately i get over there i can start nursing.i will to know if it's possible, please anyone who have an idea should kindly contribute.

Official transcripts means an evaluated transcripted that is sealed when delivered. You will have to evaluate your transcript either by WES or IERF. Then the evaluatiion agency sends the sealed transcript to the school you are applying to

Some schools accepts original transcripts without evaluation by WES and the rest.

Good day all. Please I am applying to morgan state university, usa, for a masters in public health (mph), and I just concluded a phone interview with them,so really hopeful. Anyone with an idea or Experience of how good the institution is and the program, and the chances for a GA. I have already been offered an admission for mph at university of southern mississippi, so am still weighing the options. Ur advice is needed urgently. Thanks a million
Morgan State University is one of the good HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges) so there will be a lot of blacks there and a lot of Nigerians. Also there will be funding for the school because of affirmative action. However, the school may not be as good as many of the PWIs (predominantly white institutions).

Source:
I know a couple of people that went to the school.

My advice to people trying to pick schools? Follow the money. Go to the school that offers the best funding so your schooling can be affordable and you have less financial stress. Things are expensive in the U.S.

Going to a great school in the U.S is overrated. University is University. Except ofcourse MIT, Harvard, College Park, Yale etc.

Pls I have two questions to ask.
1. Can I get admission and GA into utep or Stevens Institute of Technology wit a GRE score of 286 for MSc in statistics and stochastic system and optimization process respectively in the two schools.
2. I have sent my official GRE scores to utep but am yet to send my official GRE scores to Stevens Institute of Technology. I was planning on sending it to them if offered admission, does it affect my application?.
Thanks

It's is very difficult to get into the U.S with poor GRE scores. Moreso to get funding. I'd advise you to take the GRE again. However you think you may not do better on a 2nd trial then you will have no choice than to cross your fingers and apply to very very low ranked schools. The reason why the U.S embassy denies people applying to community colleges visa is that in reality it makes no sense. If one already has a BS, then youre applying for community college, it's like you have finished secondary school and trying to do common entrance to get into primary school. As a visa officer, I'd think one thing and one thing only. That you're looking for an excuse to leave the country.

I experienced the online payment issue with them too, I have a guy there and he is complaining that the school is expensive and my application files are not yet reviewed. I just hope is not too late sha

sirRiddy:

Nigerians and bad records sha.
One thing I experienced while applying there was that Nigeria was banned from paying the application fee from Nigeria. bigFrancis21 had to help me pay the fee and I still got a big fat reject.
But I have seen a few Nigerians being accepted into the school. The school is in Alabama, so I am sure na Trump people go full there anyway.
