watch what you say lest you be in danger of blasphemy. God has given us everything any sensible human needs to survive... From oil to many raw materials and those that are mined. What else do we need? Don't even bring God into this at all cos our selfish and this so called legends are the cause of our problems. Why fight for independence when you know you'd take your life half way in the bid to make your own people respect and see what you've done? These ain't legends. We the young lads should just forget they existed and look for a better means of cleaning the mess they got us in in the first place. If secession is the last resort then let's all divide and go our separate ways... This forced love and fanned fire that never did well play is becoming too unbearable for everyone, except for those living in luxury.
This is my personal opinion!

The most sensible conclusion I can arrive at is that Awolowo made the most terrible mistake of leadership....he had nobody to succeed him (forget all the sweet talks).

He is far better than his peers in terms of reproduction of leaders. I am not aware of any eastern or northern politician been compared to Zik or Bello or being seen as attempting to fill their shoe.
Many politicians still garner support today by showing affiliation Awolowo ideals. True federalism, restructuring, power devolution are ideas espoused by Awolowo and today chanted by those who found themselves in emergency opposition.
ZIK idea of unitary government has proven a monumental failure and no reasonable politician today is making calls for that system

Lest lies become passed as the truth, cumulatively over the past 15 years 2001-2016, SE and not the SW still leads in the JAMB enrollment figures, I had since done justice to that thread of falsehood, till now, the Yorubas are yet to provide rebuttal to my analysis of the JAMB stats.you can see my post on that here https://www.nairaland.com/3709501/see-jamb-applications-geopolitical-regions/12

Euromonitor statistics was about consumer expenditure of cities in Africa and not about city development, the resilent City challenge stat is a better measurement of city over all development and livability and Enugu was the first Nigerian city to make the cut in 2014,http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/enugu-makes-history-joins-worlds-100-resilient-cities/
Lagos was only able to make the list 2years later and no other Nigerian city made the list.
I had also done justice to this Euromonitor stat ish here :
https://www.nairaland.com/3294626/abuja-ibadan-port-harcourt-make-euromonitor/5

On the vibrancy of the economy, we just need to follow the money trail, and if we do that, SE beats SW once again. https://www.nairaland.com/3088004/southeast-one-richest-region-after

This thread does justice to what the Eastern cities, towns and villages look like :https://www.nairaland.com/2576371/eastern-neighbourhoods-streets-made

Who are the 'we'? Guy, fvck off my mention. You igbo people are the ones moving en masse to our 'brown roof' cities for survival, coz obviously your supposed eldorados are nothing but hype, lack a big enough market, and are generally not economically viable. #Fact. Who wouldn't? Afterall, you lots only visit home during festivities, while spending the remainder of your time in our brown-roof region, which is home to the highest concentration of industries in the entire country (Lagos and Ogun especially: http://businessdayonline.com/2015/02/ogun-ikeja-top-manufacturers-investment-destinations-in-2014/ ).

We still attract the bulk of the FDI that comes into the country: http://punchng.com/ogun-attracts-75-fdi-into-nigeria-uk-envoy/

Euromonitor rated Ibadan to be amongst the top 10 fastest growing cities in Africa: http://blog.euromonitor.com/2016/08/top-10-sub-saharan-cities-consumer-spending-growth-2030.html -- no single SE city featured on the list.

The same Ibadan is a more developed, versatile and complete city than any city in the entire SE. It has 3 Cinemaplexes at three separate locations, countless shopping malls and hotels (was adjuded by hotels coy Jovago as having the 3rd highest number of hotels in Nigeria, behind Lagos and Abuja, and fourth highest number of 5-star hotels in Nigeria, behind Lagos, Abuja, and PH), and a host of other renowned international brands like Dominos, ColdStone, KFC, (these can only be found in Lagos and ABJ), e.t.c. Till today, no single SE and SS hosts a skyscraper the height of Cocoa house. Up till today!

We are home to the highest number of and the most vibrant Higher institutions (both private and public) in the entire country. #Fact

Ogun is home to more ultra-modern architectures than anywhere in the entire SE, and is home to Africa's largest housing estate of 15,000 housing units at Canaan-city. #Fact

We still retain the highest enrollment figures AND acceptance rates for JAMB in the country (https://www.nairaland.com/3709501/see-jamb-applications-geopolitical-regions ). #Fact.

It's not our fault that your collective bitterness and inferiority complex as a people drives you to highlight the old settlement parts of some of our cities as a way of deluding yourselves into some false sense of superiority . But alas, it's not up to you to decide who's the more developed between our peoples, and you certainly won't achieve that by continually displaying pictures of brown-roofs every chance you get on these pages. The indices and factors (some of which I mentioned above) will be the judge of that, thank you. In a nutshell, we'll always be your bosses cool . The difference between us is just that it's not in our nature to toot our own horns. Besides, like they say, 'empty vessels make the loudest noise'.

Below are sample aerial shots YOU REFUSE TO SEE, of our own cities. This is not in anyway meant to counter your jaundiced and hateful propaganda about us and our cities (you're free to see and believe what you want), no, rather it's meant to buttress my earlier point that you are a dishonest and evil lot whose false propaganda to disparage us will always be dead on arrival in the face of facts. Now choke on that.

1. Aerial shots of Park Inn by Radisson Hotels Abeokuta and environs
2. An Abeokuta surburb
3. Aerial shot of another part of Ibadan
4. Another aerial shots of other parts of Ibadan

Professor Banji Akintoye was close to the sage, Pa Obafemi Awolowo, when he was alive. The senator speaks on what papa’s view would have been like if he were to be around now that the country is beset with serious challenges in many fronts, in this interview with BOLA BADMUS. Excerpts:

What do you think has been responsible for that? Or was the fault with Awolowo himself? Could it be that he failed to raise a possible successor?

No. I have heard people say that Papa did not lay out his successor. He did. This is Awolowo’s style of leadership. He is not saying be loyal to me as a person; that is not what he is saying. He is saying you create a body of ideals and principles that become the mark of us all, my master, your master; we are all servants of these ideals and principles. And it is that servant-hood of those ideals and principles that martyrs us as a group. So, whoever does that has already provided for leadership forever.

....It is not that Chief Awolowo did not provide for succession to himself; he did. He created a team that was very solidly dedicated to ideals very high ideals and principles; and that team could have led Nigeria or any country in the world to greatness....

To rule this country.

Maybe not rule this country, at least, he would give mankind the type of decent leadership that Awolowo represented.

http://tribuneonlineng.com/awo-gave-western-region-7-years-british-not-give-nigeria-50-years-akintoye/[/quote]

These were the best parts of the entire interview! Well said, Prof. Akintoye! cool May you live long....

Let me break economics down....Igbo economics is based on group economics....We buy from ourselves

Then when we move out of our region, we create a niche and make money...During Christmas and Easter we all head home...So also the money

Now when Yoruba don't travel ,they don't do us...In short we enjoy it. We keep the eastern economies and south south economies to ourselves ...We keep the money at home and at the same time repatriation of overseas based ones ...To ensure business continuity and spread the over sea wealth...We just simply go back pick our kinsmen and teach him the business all these going on while you are doing great owambe and eating amala or asking for owo mi da

All I can say is confederation seemed to be working, our ndependence was premature. Perhaps necessitated by the discovery of oil because I doubt the colonial masters would have left had they discovered Nigeria was oil rich.
We have discovered oil before they left, oil was discovered in either 1954 or 1956 in olobiri.

EXPOSING HOW MUCH THIEF AWOLOWO STOLE FROM NIGERIA

(1) He was stupendously wealthy during his lifetime, infact there is NO company at Oba Akran in Ikeja ,Lagos where he does not have at least a five percent equity, Dideolu Court in Ogba alone cannot be valued at less than N10 Billion ,that was the place that he had in mind to be his Seat of power if he was elected as Nigeria’s President.

(2) He owned Shonibare Estate but the man he was using as a front and who later went to prison over some issues which Awolowo himself was privy to eventually laid claim to the estate.

Hehehehe...you lot like deceiving yourselves sha. cheesy The Chinese you mentioned, have you visited their country? Their cities are some of the most developed in the world, with great infrastructure & technically skilled people. Same goes for several Asian countries like Singapore, Indonesia etc. They do not go to other countries to denigrate their hosts, or claim a non-existent prowess or flaunt a superiority that they do not possess, which your guys are fond of doing. sad

Those Chinese and Asians do not seek salvation or economic prosperity elsewhere, without developing their own communities first. Unlike your kinsmen. undecided

As for that claim you made about being "still the most educated....So the skilled jobs in your place we take some slice off it and still have our jobs back home to ourselves." I had to laugh out loud. cheesy Did you conduct a survey before you arrived at this conclusion? If you have taken the skilled jobs at home and elsewhere, why do your people still cry about marginalisation?

Nwakaumu:
you dey mind yoruba's Lagos-ibadan express way junk journalism.telling us lie that yoruba were the only people in nigeria who felt white are not superior to them but in reality they are the first tribe who willingly allow white people to come and rule over them when british declared lagos british protectorate and appointed dosunmu as the new oba without resistance from yoruba.there are no anti-colonial movement in yoruba unlike what we have in igbo land as in Aro-British war. In fact yoruba were the first people to capitulate to foreign rule without putting up a fight, from dahomey women warriors to Arab Fulani conquest,Benin(Ado)domination of Eko and british colonialism.yoruba are used to servitude that's why they are afraid to be on their own, hence the hatred they show any time Biafra or Nnamdi kanu is mentioned.Yoruba history is one of servitude and subjugation, these lies are not selling, we are good students of history.so afonja stop distorting history.self-determination is not among yoruba's cultural values.

Google Anglo-Ijebu war (battle of Imagbon) and stop talking with ignorance. The problem with you guys is that you like throwing the first jab, and if Yoruba throw jabs at you, then you start playing victim

I just want to let you all know that Igbos are still living after the evil your awo and his people meted on Igbo because of one Nigeria.... And yoruba land is not much better than Igbo land....neither are the hausa fulanis any better, except that they have more richer people,

How do these lies hurt or help the needed cooperation between the Igbos and Yorubas for overcoming the perpetual dominance of the Hausa/Fulanis?

“He got all of this wealth due to a great measure of goodwill and tax waivers he gave to investors whenever they come to establish their business.

(3) Anytime you buy a bottle of Coca-Cola you are enriching the Awolowo Dynasty,

(4) Go to Ijebu Ikenne and you will discover that the price of bag cement there is different from other parts of the nation due to the subsidy that the citizens enjoy on account of Awolowo who was their son and I hope you know that West African Portland Cement is in Ewekoro and not Ikenne.

(5) He listed such blue chips like Dunlop Nigeria Plc,
(i) Guinness Nigeria Plc.
(ii) Neimeth Pharmaceutical Nigeria Plc.
(iii) May and Baker Nigeria Plc.
(iv) Vitafoam Nigeria Plc.
(v) Wahum Nigeria Limited .
(vi) CAP Nigeria Plc.
(vii) International Paints of West Africa [IPWA].
(viii) Berger Paints Nigeria Plc.
(ix) Berec Nigeria Limited. ,
(x)Kabelmetal, Nigeria Bottling Company Plc
(xi) Leventis Nigera Plc.,
(xii)West African Portland Cement Company,[Lafarge ].
(xiii)Wema Bank Nigeria Plc.
(xiv) Scoa Nigeria Plc.
(xv) CFAO Nigeria Plc.
(xvi) Cadbury Nigeria Plc.
(xvii)Wemaboard Estates, Odu’A Group.
(xviii) Livestock Feeds Nigeria Plc.
(xix) Nigerian Breweries Plc as places the Awolowo family have commercial interest to mention just a few.

(6) Apart from this stocks analysts believe that the most visible of his investment ,The Nigerian Tribune Newspapers cannot be valued at less than N100billion today in terms of brand evaluation as Thisday Newspapers was valued by the Owner ,.Mr Nduka Obaigbena at N200 Billion recently during a media chart while celebrating his fiftieth birthday sometimes last year.

WHEN A THIEF BECOMES A KING MAKER:-

“He made Sijuwade rich, because he was his business associate and in fact some of us held very strong views that he was one of his fronts and later the same man became the Ooni of Ife”he added
Mr Adebayo Adeyinka recalled his several years of following grass root politics right from the days of Action Group to the Unity Party of Nigerian era in the second republic but now lamented that he had since lost all interest in partisan politics due to the massive corruption in our polity.

HOW AWO FAMILY NOW REGARD ‘’AWOIST’’

“On account of this great betrayal Awolowo family members regard the “Awoist” as a group people should deal with using a long spoon till this day and this explains why when The Peoples Democratic Party Government gave some of them political appointment lately they accepted it without thinking twice.

“Dr Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu was made an Ambassador by Former President Olusegun Obasanjo while, Mr Segun Awolowo Jnr was given a plum job at the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja as a Secretary.
“Recently when Afenifere was disintegrating Mama out of concern for her husband’s legacies decided to call a truce because as she puts it then, she did not know what she was going to tell her husband the day they meet in heaven

MAKING OF THE ‘’BEST PRESIDENT ni.GERia NEVER HAD’’:-

Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo was a leader who believed that the state should channel Nigeria’s resources into education and state –led infrastructural development.

At his own expense albeit controversially ,he introduced the free primary education for all of the Western Region ,he equally established the first television service in Africa in 1959 and expanded electrification projects in the region using the proceeds from the highly lucrative Cocoa export industry.

http://ihuanedo.ning.com/m/group/discussion?id=2971192%3ATopic%3A125357

You and this your propaganda that cannot be substantiated. Una no dey tire? What was the volume of shares Awolowo bought in each of those companies you listed here? Oya, publish the details sharp-sharp! cheesy

When foreign companies decide to invest in a country, the govt is free to give tax breaks and incentives to help them establish their businesses locally, due to the fact that their operations will generate employment and income for its citizens. Awolowo must have provided those incentives, as part of his functions as Premier of the old Western region. Even MTN was given a 10-year tax holiday due to its pioneer status, when it decided to set up operations in Nigeria.

All the companies quoted there are PLCs (i.e. Public Liability Companies or Public Limited Companies). Their stocks are freely traded on the Nigerian Stock Exchange and citizens from all walks of life, freely buy and sell their shares on a daily basis. Among their share holders are Efik, Kanuri, Ibibio, Yoruba, Bura, Itsekiri, Igala, Hausa, Ebira, Tiv, Mumuye, Bachama, Nupe, Igbo etc. people from the length and breadth of Nigeria.

If a publicly quoted company makes profit, all its shareholders are paid dividends including the Igbo ones. wink If they lose money, all the shareholders also lose money, including the Igbo ones. Now, if its true that Awolowo owned shares in those companies you listed.... in your own view, you believe Awolowo committed a crime by buying shares in publicly quoted companies, and earning returns from his shares? How ridiculous can you get? shocked Every Nigerian at home and abroad, is free to buy shares in any Plc company of their choice! So why belittle Awolowo for doing something that every other citizen has the legal right to do? shocked

Ok, please try not to feel pained by the fact that Awolowo was rich in intellect, funds and material things while he was alive. It only shows that he was an astute manager of men and resources. cheesy

ODVanguard:

Who are the 'we'? Guy, commot my mention right away. Your people are the ones moving en masse to our 'brown roof' cities for economic survival, coz obviously your supposed eldorados are nothing but hype, lack a big enough market, and are generally not economically viable.

Guy God bless you and ur family
Your parents money on u wasn't a waste.
From this little piece of urs I HV learnt something today
I'm pretty sure that fool will get off ur mention.
just watch as those ignorant and hate filled set refuse to counter this as though they never saw it.
Once again God bless u...
If to say we fit see now I for buy u lunch lol

The most sensible conclusion I can arrive at is that Awolowo made the most terrible mistake of leadership....he had nobody to succeed him (forget all the sweet talks).
You're right, guy! Awo had no one to take after him. And that's why most of his descendants today are still living in mud houses with brown roofs atop. Does that show prosperity? Awo must be taking dry gin to douse anger in d grave each time he sees that his descendants are busy hating while others are busy building bridges and homes without waiting for a failed government.
