Everyone haas a genetic defect from the copying of DNA. Now these defects runs in the family hence why it is advisable to marry out of your family. Their gene defect is not the sane as yours so the offspring will have a mild defect.

Think of it as everyone in a family being ET

E being healthy
T being a defect.
Now having kids from two ETs increses the anount of Ts in the offspring. Look at it like if l the person has 1%T and her brother has 2%T, you increase the number of T for the offspring.

But imagine marring from a family where they dont have and T defect at all. You can keep the % of T to the minimum.

Note that the T and E is just are examples.

Think like if the family has a problem of blood not clotting or fast enough. Now two members of that family having kids together will only worsen the blood clot defect as the kids will have worse issues

Why should mechanisms to avoid incest be so widespread in nature and across human societies? The answer is simple. The big problem with having sex with Mom, Dad, Bro, or Sis is that there is an astonishingly high chance that your offspring will be born with a serious birth defect. Take the results of a study of Czechoslovakian children whose fathers were first-degree relatives of their mothers. Fewer than half the children who were products of incestuous unions were completely healthy. Forty-two percent of them were born with severe birth defects or suffered early death, and another 11 percent were mildly mentally impaired. This study is particularly instructive, as it included a unique control group: offspring of the same mothers but whose fathers were not the mothers’ relatives. When the same women were impregnated by a non-relative, only 7 percent of their children were born with a birth defect.
A group of genetic counselors reviewed the research on the biological consequences of sex between relatives (here). They found a surprisingly small increase (about 4 percent) in birth defects among the children of married cousins. Incest between first-degree relatives, however, was a different story. The researchers examined four studies on the effects of first-degree incest on the health of the offspring (including the Czech research). Forty percent of the children were born with either autosomal recessive disorders, congenital physical malformations, or severe intellectual deficits, and another 14 percent of them had mild retardation. In short, the odds that a newborn child who is the product of brother-sister or father-daughter incest will suffer an early death, a severe birth defect, or some mental deficiency approaches 50 percent.

Same was with the Habsburg rulers in Europe with their infamous jaw. Can't believe someone actually said their children would turn out fine

I'm more interested in the biology or genetic problems that may cause defects
When DNA combines during pregnancy, it shouldn't be affected by the incest.
Unless one of the partner has some sort of Genetic issues, which is independent on whether it's an incest relationship or normal relationship

That research wasn't wholistic, the didn't give the Reason/etiology why there was a higher rate of defect in children born through incest....

And there are lots of bias in the research, I would love to know the research methodologies and sampling techniques used...

This is an interesting topic and underreported, I may just likely carry out a thorough research on this, with some of my colleagues, that's if we can get approval/funding, in the meantime, I will learn more on this , I will inform you.
