Zik did know about the Coup thats why he stayed away from Nigeria. Emmanuel Ifeajuna was his first cousin and he told him to stay away till the coup was carried out. Otherwise, how do you explain the fact that the Commonwealth Heads of State Meeting was happening for the FIRST TIME IN AFRICA & NEWLY INDEPENDENT NIGERIA BUT THE PRESIDENT WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND?!?!?.

Ifeajuna wasn't Zik cousin, he was his townsman.
You have no evidence of Ifeajuna telling Zik anything, that hallucination only exists in your head.

Everyone knew a coup was coming, everyone from the top to lowest rank of the government knew it, the rumour was everywhere, but no one knew who is going to execute the coup or when.
Perhaps, Zik was more conscious, alert and careful than others.

I can as well claim that Awolowo it was who used Fajuyi his fellow Yoruba man, to groom Nzeogwu and co for the coup and elimination of his arch political rivals. grin
Of course, like you, I wouldn't have facts to back it up, but if I repeat it long enough like Yorubas had done theirs using the Lagos-Ibadan print media over years, it starts taking the semblance of the truth. grin

I guess you read the Aba made version of the constitution. The President, Azkiwe had the powers to make appointments. The constitution even gave him the powers to appiont Judges after the Privy Council In London ceasaed being the Highest Court of the land. Offcourse he was called out. Akintola pointed out Azikiwe's nepotism, that was why the latter was killed by the blood sucking bo coupists.

I agree na made in Iragbiji version wey I read. Point me to the section of the constitution that empowered him no vex. If you have a link I will be more grateful. Thanks

How did Akintola contest it? Through what channels? Or did it end in his depraved, demonic anti-igbo hate speeches?

You think Yoruba's were the one that masterminded the Jan '66 coup.

Were Yoruba's the one singing Ewu Ne Ba Akwa, in mockery of the Northerners who were still mourning their leaders that were killed by the ibo coupist?

Were Yoruba's the ibo agent provocateurs who printed defamatory materials about the late Balewa and Bello, which made the Military government to promulgate Decree 44?

Very soon you ibos will tell us that ojucrook, who led your parents to a disastrous and catastrophic war was a yoruba man

Did you and your folks not rejoice on this thread that Yoruba felt marginalized and even encouraged GEJ to do it the more?

Did your folks not celebrate Nigeria here with some even talking of pushing Yoruba out of the Union so that we won't partake of the 'goodies of 1 naijeria' with you and the north? Did Afam not denigrate Yoruba for pushing for the same regionalism your kith and kin are being shot over today?

Did any single one of your folks on this thread remember Biafra in all their gloating at 'Yoruba misfortune'?

The so called Ewu na ebe akwa was sang by Rex lawson, an Ijaw man.And it was not sang in mockery of northerners, Yoruba falsehood print media is yet to provide any evidence other than concocted hear say lies to back up that claim.

No such defamatory pics of Balewa was printed, it was all part of the Igbophobic agenda, you lots till today are yet to produce any evidence to lend credence to such.

Ojukwu would always remain a hero who fought for his people, decided to stay alive to keep hope alive, unlike a self proclaimed sage who took the coward way out by taking his life, when his greed and lust for power caught up with him. Deal with it.

Post the link to the song and then a link to such pictures. Such things shouldn't be hard now, should they? They only happened in 1966, and since then till now we are yet to see video evidence of such pictures or audio of the said celestine ukwu song! Even a preserved evidence of such publications, Such gigantic evidence to nail the Igbo, left unrecorded in audio or pics by our Ibadan-Lagos propaganda machine? grin

Liar !! The song was by Celestine Ukwu. If the ibos did not mock the memory of the slain Northern leaders, why then was The Defamatory and Offensive Publications Decree No 44 of 1966 promulgated?

Ojucrook died blind, deaf, dumb, lame and lonely on the hospital bed in London while his whorish wife, bianca, was busy sucking FFK's prick over here in Nigera. Today, according to ipod, that same FFK is greater than the entire ibo race.

‘Yoruba marginalised by Jonathan administration’

Posted By: Bisi Oladele On: February 7, 2013

Nation

A Yoruba group, the Yoruba Unity Forum (YUF), has decried the alleged neglect of the Southwest by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Urging the President not to see it as another baseless cry, it reeled out data to support its claim.

Chief Olu Falae, Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi, Senator Femi Okunrohunmu, Dr. Kunle Olajide and Senator Tony Adefuye spoke with reporters at the Premier Hotel in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, yesterday.

They said no Yoruba person occupies any of the top 12 political offices in Nigeria.

The positions are the president; vice president; Senate president; House of Representatives’ speaker; chief judge of the federation; deputy senate president; deputy speaker, House of Representatives; acting president of the Court of Appeal; secretary to the government of the federation; chief of staff to the president; national security adviser and the head of service of the federation.

They said Jonathan should have appointed, at least, one Yoruba person of his choice into one of the positions to reflect the federal character.

YUF said only three of the 36 principal economic and financial agencies, including key ministries, departments and agencies, are headed by Yoruba persons.

In the Judiciary and anti-corruption sectors, they said none of the 11 agencies is headed by a Yoruba person. The positions/agencies include: the Chief Justice of the Federation; Judicial Service Commission; National Judicial Council; Code of Conduct Bureau; Attorney-General of the Federation; the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

YUF said the Yoruba head only two of the 17 education management agencies; one of the 10 security agencies; one of the four bureaucracy agencies; none out of three government broadcasting agencies and none of the three election management-related agencies.

It said the Yoruba occupy few federal positions in spite of the fact that they account for about 22 per cent of the country’s population.

The group alleged “ethnic cleansing and discriminatory acts” against the Yoruba in agencies and ministries.

For instance, they alleged that the pioneer Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Accident Investigation Bureau, Dr. Samuel Oduselu, was unjustly relieved of his appointment in 2011 despite his great achievements in the agency.

It also alleged that the Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Stella Oduah, sacked eight general managers at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) last year, six of whom were Yoruba.

The Yoruba elders said shortly after, the minister employed 75 workers, 40 of whom were from the Southeast, her geo-political zone.

They said the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), another agency under the minister, has recruited about 107 workers since last August, with 68 per cent hailing from the Southeast, according to the report of a news magazine.

YUF said the minister sacked the Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, Captain Adebayo Araba and replaced him with Captain Chinyere Kalu from the Southeast.

Besides the sack of the former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mrs. Ola Onagoruwa, for “undisclosed reasons”, the Yoruba elders condemned the recent recruitment in the Nigeria Customs Service, alleging that only 45 cadets were recruited from the Southwest as against 68 from the Southeast and 91 from the South south.

They said they had made fruitless efforts to discuss the issue with the President privately in the last two years before bringing it to the public.

The Yoruba elders urged Jonathan to correct the imbalance, saying: “Jonathan is not just the president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or those who voted for him, but the president of all Nigerians. At any rate, the Yoruba voted for him.

“Perhaps we should remind him that when a Yoruba man, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, was president, he led as a detribalised Nigerian, even refusing to identify with the Yoruba and frequently short changing them.

“We implore Mr. President to rise up to the demands of his office and rule as the president of all Nigerians, including the Yoruba.

This country sha need to separate. I wish many Yoruba people support it, but i hardly see any. Just look at nigeria, there is no future for this country. Like the igbos and the niger deltans, we also have leaders who due to greed, will want the country to still exist. We need to leave this country not for us but for the generations to come. A separate yoruba republic will do far much better than nigeria. Even if we do bad, we will still be able to provide at least 20hours electricity, good roads, massive employment for the youths through indigenous industries, better education system, better health care system. We will not be bothered about other ethnic groups and their hate since we no longer share the same country. I am also certain that corruption will eradicated. This is because there will be nothing like ethnic sentiments, so no leader will be allowed to steal money without being punished. Since we all have a common goal and enemy.
I stand by oodua republic!!!
I stand by a Yoruba nation!!!

You are right, I think the father is Kalabari while the mum is Rivers Ibo. But he speaks and sings in Igbo language fluently. He gave them a song which they all danced to in mocking the North after the kiling of their leaders. "Ewu Ne Be Akwa - Goats are Crying".
But when snakes and all kind of reptiles started dancing in their homes, they are shouting blue murder..

Your posts are dripping with prejudice and malice but I honestly cant see any facts to back them up. Abeg help me with some of them:-

1. How could Okpara have hosted Ifeajuna when he was in detention in Enugu and how could he have helped him escape? According to Ademoyega (one of the coupists) Ifeajuna fled to Lagos after running to Enugu to meet up with Don Okafor and Chris Okigbo who drove him to Seme border

2. If you have your facts on the coup you will know that the coup plotters at NO time intended or even had the manpower to arrest every member of the 1st republic. Please give more details on the officers you said went to Jaja Wachuku's just to "inform" him that he wasnt a target grin

3. How many yoruba politicians were killed by the coupists? Why was Akintola killed and Fani Kayode spared? For purpose of clarity, Zik was not deputy prime minister, he was ceremonial president. Moreover he was not in the country so how did the coupists "spare" him?

4. You claim that all igbo ministers knew about the coup before and that some resigned. Please who were the ones that resigned 24hrs before the coup?

The Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, who had high respect and a soft spot for Jaja Wachuku pleaded with him to reinstate Blankson and accept another ministry. Wachuku refused. Balewa even asked his wife Rhoda Idu Jaja Wachuku to plead with him, yet he refused and tendered his resignation from Parliament and as an Executive Member of Government midday 14 January 1966. Balewa was yet to accept Wachuku's resignation when the army struck by mid-night; barely 12 hours later – thus ushering in the era of military coups in Nigeria. Wachuku's official residence, at 7, Okotie-Eboh Street Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria, was surrounded by soldiers. His younger brother: Kennedy Madu Wachuku, father of Ugonna Wachuku was with him that day, Jaja Wachuku looked through the window in the early hours of the morning and asked the soldiers: "What are you boys doing here?" One of the soldiers replied: "Good morning, Sir. But haven't you heard what is happening in the country?" To which Wachuku replied: "Yes. I know you boys have taken over the Government." And the soldier said: "Do not be afraid, Sir. We have come to protect you for being an honest Government Minister." Jaja Wachuku survived the military coup

Major Ifeajuna, graduate of University College Ibadan, Mons Officer Cadet School trained, was the overall leader of the January 15 mutiny and operational commander of Lagos activities. Along with Major Okafor and Captain Oji he was a member of the original core of conspirators which farmed out to recruit others. Ifeajuna assassinated Brigadier Zak Maimalari, Lt. Col. Abogo Largema and the Prime Minister, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa.

When it became obvious that Lagos ops had failed, he and Major DO Okafor bolted for the East, where they are said to have had a meeting with the regional Premier, Michael Okpara. Ifeajuna later sneaked back to Lagos from where he was driven to the border with Dahomey by two federal civil servants (one of whom was his brother-in-law), enroute to Ghana. He was welcomed by President Nkrumah and sent to Winneba to stay with Sam Ikoku.

And nobody danced to that song to mock Northerners, those were stories you all made up. Lex lawson songs were hits in the East, and people always danced to them.
Linking Igbos dancing to a classic lex lawson song to mean celebrating dead Northern leaders was schizophrenic and demonic of Northerners looking for excuse to unleash their blood lust.

And we are supposed to take nowa hallucinations penned down as gospel truth because? grin

What exactly was the above supposed to prove?

Ofcourse, jaja wasn't on Awolowo's way, there was no reason why he should be killed by a coup masterminded by Awolowo.

Saraduna, Balewa, and Akintola were the main hit.

Okotie was also instrumental in clipping Awolowo and Yoruba grip on Midwest, through his friendship with Saraduna and Balewa he forced Yorubas to let Midwest become free. I can see why he was penciled down to be killed by Awolowo boys. cheesy

We can all decide to play this game of conjectures and half truths, or we can all drop them and reason rationally.

I have heard of Delta Igbos too grin grin grin grin. But is is up to individuals / group of people from the area to either accept or deny their Igboness. You remember Sunday Oliseh? Yor remember Gov Wike and Okowa distancing themselves from Bia.....? I did not make them do it. They did it by choice
They have to self identify.
My point is that you people have helped to perpetuated the "I am not Igbo" mantra. So, i'm quite surprised that just because you want to portray a musician as Igbo, you chose to call him Rivers Igbo instead of the name of his clan in Rivers state (ie Ikwerre, Etche etc). I think it's hypocritical.

I can see why he was penciled down to be killed by Awolowo boys. cheesy

Awolowo was the mastermind from his jail cell in Calabar?

Awolowo was the one who recruited the soldiers and sent them to spare Azikwe, Okpara Osadebey and all Ibo politicians

Many more heavier hits had been masterminded from the prison. Wouldn't be the first or the last.

What was Fajuyi role as a Yoruba man in the coup?
