You just like most of the others levelling this accusation are just evil tribal warriors with little brain power.

Anything that has to do with Lagos isn't a Yoruba affair, you should take good note of this...

Secondly, a state that generates the highest IGR in the country (302 billion in 2016) needs nothing like special status and if you can only see this from a tribal angle then I weep for the future of this country...

We are on the brink of a cataclysmic event and we can only be saved by wisdom, rational deliberations and objectivity.

Stop seeing everything from a tribal angle...

PS: After the war what efforts did Nigeria make to rebuild the SE? We all know how the RRR was hijacked and failed woefully...

You only hate what you don't understand

I will ignore all your abuses and stay on point. Can you tell me clearly why the south east needs a special development commission?

Will it be fair for the south west, north west and north central to also propose a similar development commission?

If all regions have a special development commission, how will it be funded without affecting the revenue of the three constitutionally recognized arms of government?

fabre4:
THE DEPUTY MINORITY LEADER OF THE FEDERAL HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, HAS OPENED UP ON THE ROWDY SESSION AND PROTEST BY LAWMAKERS MAINLY FROM THE SOUTH-EAST TODAY DURING PLENARY.

We reported earlier today that some members of the Federal House of Representatives, mainly from the South-East were involved in massive protest inside the national assembly chambers.
It was learnt that their anger is over the withdrawal of a bill seeking to create a South-East Development Commission. The house rejected the bill after it was put to a voice vote by Yakubu Dogara, the speaker.
While speaking with a journalists, the deputy minority leader of the house of representatives, Chukwuka Onyema, alleged that there was a gang up to kill the bill seeking to establish the South-East Development Commission.

Onyema, who sponsored the bill, had stormed out of the chamber, alongside some south-east lawmakers, after the bill was put aside, and also threatened to relinquish his position.

When asked if he would keep to his word and resign, the angry Onyema said: “I have not done it, wait for a formal thing,” adding that it was obvious that some lawmakers ganged up to “kill” the bill.
The lawmaker explained that the bill was mainly for developmental purposes of the south-east region, saying it had become clear that the south-east is being marginalised.

“Two things happened, it was obvious that there was a gang up to kill this bill. People that are supposed to be fasting came back and shouted ‘nay’,” he said.

“We all heard it and still the presiding officer gave it to the ‘nays’. This bill does not affect anybody in any way. This is something that is for developmental purposes. Why are we killing it? And we are talking about marginalisation, that we are not marginalised? We are marginalised, it is obvious that we are being marginalised.
“By Tuesday, you will hear what you want to hear.”

Nnamdi Kanu has said it before some of you won't listen. It is high time you guys left the governance and politics of this country. It's obvious SE are not needed. Like KANU said and I stand with him,. SE need to boycott 2019 elections.

This is just the exact reason why the devilish Nigerian FG headed by the Fulani mafia abolished the teaching of history in secondary schools: to ensure people like you have no idea of the atrocities committed by Nigeria in the name of oil.

Did you know that the £20 was paid to all bank account holders of Igbo origin irrespective of how much you had before in the same account? That is a big injustice that will forever haunt this country...

Do you know that Igbo people had their lands in various states stolen from them during the war, the land grabbers never relinquished those lands after the war...

You definitely have zilch idea of the monumental tragedies that was orchestrated against the Igbos, how can you when you know nothing of your history...

I could go on and on but...I'm at work...

Lagos deserve it becuase of the large population of other states and ethnicities in there. The pressure on the infrastructure is much more than than of Ebonyi and Lagos need to be compensated for the usage of her infrastructure by indigenes of other states, which is putting enormous pressure on her ''meager'' resources.

If the myopic SEasterners were too hate-filled to see that, to hell with their Biafrau.d Developers Association Bill.

Read the comment on this thread and justify their idiocy https://www.nairaland.com/3389862/senate-rejects-tinubus-bill-seeking

I was unapologetically for the lagos bill and was dissapointed no less when it was thrown out due to petty politics. Anthony village, kosofe is forever gonn be a place i call home.

That being said, several people from different parts of the country could come up with arguments against the 'special status' bill. One of them being, lagos is already strategically advantaged as a result of its location, infrastructures which alongside good governance has translated into income generation that other states can only dream of.

This bill on the other hand, besides the 'an eye for an eye' politics, has almost no arguments against it. Everyone is very much aware of how infrastructurally disadvantaged the south east is. Except we are just being petty, the region really does require urgent federal attention which in the long run is a good thing for the country as a whole.

A development commision is something any region of the country in need of urgent intervention could decide to come up with in the future. This 'nay' sets a precedent

The 'nay' for the Lagos Bill set the precedent.

What makes the Bill necessary? How has SE been marginalised that SW and NC has not been marginalised?

Blackmailing other region with Biafra or secession will not work because we know they CAN NEVER try it again.

hey should explain the objective of the Bill and what the Commission is meant to achieve. Have they been deprived of their normal Allocation? WHat have they been doing with it?

Senator Sola Adeyeye was at the forefront of the bill, tell me a single South West senator against it?
It is your South East senators who colluded with the North to reject the bill.
