<Book 2: A Clash of Kings:: pg 126/836> I'm getting more and more impressed with GRRM's prose style. Not only does he restrict POV chapter to reveal only what that POV character is experiencing or thinking, he goes further to find ingenious ways of revealing insight into the thoughts/actions of other characters that the POV is interacting with. Case in point: Arya's POV interaction with Yoren during their flight from KL.
Now if you skimmed through the chapters (like I did on the first read), you'd most likely miss that bit and end up assuming that it was just plot amor to make Yoren take the kingsroad so that Arya could end up on a ship to Braavos... whereas the truth is the blackbrother had done the journey so many times in the past - all through the wars of Robert's rebellion and the Greyjoy uprising - and never had he seen the kinds of things he was seeing now. |

oluamid: 1. I won't say she begged though diplomacy is seen that way Mind you the river lands owe Allegiance to the North... its the olds man's character that not been involved that make people entreat him Even Tywin sent him strong deals 2. Drogo's wound wasn't properly treated intentionally I must add 3. As for Ned Cerci's words come to mind ... When you play the game of thrones.... No middle grounds |

moski5: No, the Riverlands does not hold allegiance to the North. They hold it to the Tullys. And the Freys more grudgingly so. Remember, it's "The king in the North" not The king in the Riverlands. AT that point in the story, the Riverlands were only along with the fight because the Tullys were siding the Starks. Allegiances were being forged and the steel was still hot at the time. 1 Like |

moski5: Ehh, no they don't. And no, the bit with Drogo's wound not intentional either. Mirri maz Duur treated the wound with a pale green paste and red ointment that would burn and heal and leave a big scar; Drogo tore it off cos he misliked the pain and had his own healers make new "less painful" option. It was the "less painful" option that caused the gangrene... along with his drinking and poor diet.

<Book 2: A Clash of Kings:: pg 344/836> The humiliation of Grandmaester Pycelle... artfully and masterfully executed by Tyrion. But it seems to me that by this point the power had started to get into Tyrion's head. He is doing a good job as Hand in his father's stead, but now he's enjoying the position so much he's almost forgetting that it is temporary... or is he actually working towards making his position permanent? Why else completely humiliate and eliminate Pycelle, his father's most loyal crony in the Small Council? - - - - Honorable mention of little 3-year-old "Weasel" that we last read of on pg 256...
There are scores of tragic stories between the pages of the ASOIAF series, but i personally find that of Weasel the saddest. Most people who've read the books don't even remember her - 2 going on 3, no real name and barely a description beyond small with matted hair. |

<Book 2: A Clash of Kings:: pg 420/836> I swear it, I saw. Are you blind, the girl loved him! Help her!... She is innocent, Robar. You have my word, on my husband’s grave and my honor as a Stark! But who will believe that the king was killed by a "shadow"? |

<Book 2: A Clash of Kings:: pg 621/836> GRRM keeps finding ingenious ways to slip in tantalizing snippets of info... Jon Snow is poised to end Ygritte's life at the Skirling Pass and GRRM writes thus: He raised Longclaw over his head, both hands tight around the grip. One cut, with all my weight behind it. He could give her a quick clean death, at least. He was his father’s son. Wasn’t he? Wasn’t he? Wasn't he indeed?!! |

<Book 2: A Clash of Kings:: pg 796/836> Some much happening, some much still to happen... Daenerys, 14 years old and acting it. Funny how i got the show's version mixed up in my head and kept expecting her dragons to be "dragon-napped". However i find it odd that inspite of all Daenerys has been through, she still retains her expectation of "entitlement" - people should do her favors simply cos she is Blood of the dragon. Compared to Jon Snow's very obvious growth/development in character, Daenerys seems stagnant. Tyrion, i'd already mentioned how it seemed like the power was getting to his head; his last chapter now confirms it. His bitterness at the way he is discarded is truly justified, but it is the power he's grown used to having that he seems to miss more. What interests me though is how he immediately assumes it was Cersei that ordered Ser Mandon Moore to kill him... No Cersei POV chapters yet, but her interactions with Sansa intrigue me. She seems to be completely aware of what she is and what people truly think of her, and yet is totally unfazed by it. In my opinion she is the most "Lannister-like" of all her siblings; she is prepared to do whatever needs to be done to secure her and her children's positions. Catelyn Stark, growing more and more bitter, snapping at both friend and foe. Perhaps i should feel sorry for her, but somehow i don't. Qhorin Halfhand. He's truly worth an honorable mention. And Josemyn Peckledon, the 14-year-old squire who killed 2 knights, wounded a 3rd, and captured 2 more. I'm tempted to say great things could be in store for young Josemyn, but this is GRRM... 2 Likes |

<Book 3: A Storm of Swords:: pg 314/1062> The Liddle.
Is the Liddle really the Liddle? And if he was, how would he be knowing about so much on both sides of the Wall? |

kay9: I think he's a Lidde, with the sigil and all. What he meant was that, Sam forgot to write any messages before releasing the ravens to Castle Black. |
Re: Questions, Theories, And Trivia Of The ASOIAF (Game Of Thrones) Books. by kay9(m): 10:52pm On Jul 09, 2017 |
Gbola5: He didn't really bear the sigil, just the pinecone cloak clasp. Still doesn't explain how he knew that the Old Bear had taken his crows into the Haunted Forest, or for that matter how he knew that the ravens came back with no messages when none of the main northern houses knew. |

kay9: Important news like the Night's Watch going on a great ranging spreads. Do you suggest he's someone who is going to be important to the plot later on ? |
Re: Questions, Theories, And Trivia Of The ASOIAF (Game Of Thrones) Books. by kay9(m): 5:40pm On Jul 10, 2017 |
Gbola5: Well.... i've read further on in the book, and around pg408 Tyrion witnesses Pycelle reporting on a crowmail from Bowen Marsh detailing same things the Liddle had mentioned to Bran. Bowen had mass-written the same letter to all the warring kings (which Tywin didn't find amusing at all), and probably to the main houses too (I'm guessing that here). So maybe, maybe, the Liddle did have a source for the news... but it's really quite a long stretch. But i still have questions popping up... For instance, why would the Liddle of House Liddle be traipsing around alone in such horrible weather with a bag full of confectionery? As for if he'll be someone important in future, i really couldn't say - it's easier to predict the weather than to predict GRRM - I'm just saying he doesn't add up. |

<Book 3: A Storm of Swords:: pg 545/1062> The crone... the Ghost of High Heart. I wonder who (or what) is the "savage giant" that Sansa is prophesied to slay... And why did she call Arya "dark heart"? |

kay9: I am piling all yhe episodes to be watcjed back to back. Ive left the GOT thread for now so no spoilers though braniacx tries to tempt me. Lol. When you finish A song of ice and fire try the top 25 fantasy books ever written. I've read the name of the wind and wise mans fear. Then I read this story of nine fingers 3 books. Can't remember the name. It was readable but not fantastic. Currently reading the gentlemen bastards series. They are quite good. Very good in fact. |

Re: Questions, Theories, And Trivia Of The ASOIAF (Game Of Thrones) Books. by armadeo(m): 7:58am On Jul 20, 2017 |
kay9: Strictly soft copy. The era of hard copy is over. Once I read about the book it's search and download straight. Hard copies are prone to loss and wear and tear. Also might be stolen. My godfather and shogun were stolen twice and the third copy of shogun got damaged. Now I have soft copies. Would finish the gentlemen bastards then over to mistborn. Ps if you haven't read shogun once you finish asoiaf get it next. It practically my favourite book on the planet. |

armadeo: You haven't read the mistborn series? Hurry, brother, hurry! Was still in my early teens when i heard about Shogun, but I've never gotten around to it. Truth is, late 20's/early 30's is a very hectic time for any young man... But I've paid my dues (wink!), time to dive back into my first love - literary fiction. I'll add Shogun to my reading bucket-list. 1 Like |
