Nigerians Fire on Rebels Who Seized Sierra Leone
By HOWARD W. FRENCHJUNE 3, 1997

In their most perilous position, about 50 Nigerian soldiers were fighting a desperate battle against a vastly larger rebel force to defend one of the city's international hotels, the Mammy Yoko. United States Marines had used the hotel in recent days as a staging ground to evacuate more than 1,000 Americans and other foreigners from the country.

At least six Nigerian soldiers were killed or seriously wounded during fighting at the hotel, which has become a refuge for about 1,000 foreigners who were not able to leave the country, including West Africans, Lebanese and a handful of international journalists. Witnesses said the beachfront hotel had taken mortar fire and was burning.

''There is shooting everywhere,'' said a man who answered the telephone at the hotel. ''The Nigerians are trying their best, but if they don't get reinforcements soon, they will have to give up. If that happens, things will be very bad for us.''
The coup, on May 25, ended 14 months of democratic rule. Johnny Paul Koromah, a 33-year-old major who had been imprisoned for a previous coup attempt, took over as the country's new leader.

President Kabbah fled to Guinea, where he appealed to Nigeria and other regional powers to intervene on his behalf. As condemnations of the coup rose throughout West Africa and beyond, and the prospect of military intervention grew, the coup leaders invited the Revolutionary United Front to join their rebellion. More than 1,000 of the guerrillas, who are noted for atrocities, streamed into Freetown to join the coup.

On the vehicles the Nigerian Air Force recently purchased from Proforce defence for base defence.

The Proforce vehicles are great, but in my opinion, they could be better in providing easy egress and regress.

The Gurza LSV from Azerbaijan in my opinion provide a good inspiration for meeting all the operational requirements which the Nigerian Air Force might require. It delivers on protection, mobility, situational awareness, firepower and ease of egress/regress.

The second vessel available to the Nigerian navy is the SSV. The SSV is a brilliant ship, ordered by the Philippines navy, and used to transport men and equipment to Malawi, the SSV would be a very good addition to the Nigerian navy.

The SSV is 123 meters long These vessels are critical assets for civil-military operations due to their capability of transporting large number of soldiers, logistics, and supplies. Moreover, each SSV has the capacity to house three helicopters.
Maybe your dreams are coming true lol hope we will choose something close to the Philip variant

It would be very good news for us.

He usually doesn't have jokes in him, however, i still need to be sure.

The Su-30 would massively improve Nigeria's strike capability and load delivery.
I don't know how to say this in a nice way, but your not getting Su30s.....of all the people on this thread you would be the first to know........Then rub it in our faces!!

That's not correct. I wouldn't be the first to know. However, let @Tdayof post the evidence he claims to have.

Yes, i would rub it on South-African faces for sure, however I'll have to see evidence. Until then, Nigerian SU's don't exist.

Let me clarify.

There is no news yet on the Vessel the Nigerian navy intends to buy. However we have confirmation both from the Nigerian and Indonesian side stating that vessels are to be purchased.

As to the type, that's not known at this time.

Start in Nigeria, you really need help.
from now onwards all your stvpid posts will not see the light of day, it will be like you never existed, it will be like the anti-spam bot was created specifically for you. You will slowly but surely fade into limbo. Always, no matter how jealous or ass-ached you are, always respect the Victories of another man do not try to claim it for yourself as a coward. You do not see any Nigerian argue with you when you post bogus achievements of the SANDF in the bush war and in World War 2.
But here is our thing, here is our victory and you came over to sit on it. You are f#cking coward. Nigerians lost their lives fighting a full blown war in this places and you want to tell us that your PMC's saved the day. What is the capacity of this PMC's and what size of troops can they deploy that they could have saved this countries or you think these wars we speak of are jokes, this nations where in a state of total f#cking chaos, no government and no order, different rebel groups were fighting each other in suburbs with civilians in it. Even the Libya of today was not as bad as Liberia lr Sierra Leone at least Libya have a government. I wonder why you would want to claim another man's glory? Have you seen any Nigerian arguing the fact that your men where raped by child soldiers in the DRC. so why claiming another man's victory.

CAS PARTICIPATES IN BUSH EXERCISE, PROMOTES AIRMEN FOR GALLANTRY

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar yesterday, 5 July 2017, joined the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Regiment personnel undergoing training at the Regiment Training Centre (RTC) in Kaduna. The personnel were for a bush exercise, specifically designed by the British Military Assistance Training Team (BMATT), to build the personnel’s capacity in Cordon and Search. The CAS undertook the visit in order to witness first hand, the extent of progress on the training and in particular, the exercise, which involved the use of one of the NAF’s helicopters.

The CAS stated that the exercise was part of the capacity building initiative of the NAF towards further ensuring the base protection as a means of protecting the NAF’s air assets. He added, “our base in Maiduguri was once attacked, we are taking steps to ensure it never happens again”. He further stated that the end state was the security of Nigeria and Nigerians, a task which the NAF was devoted to carrying out. He then expressed satisfaction with the performance of the personnel during the exercise. In his remarks, the head of the BMATT stated that he was impressed with the rate of assimilation of the NAF personnel and added that the capacity of NAF Regiment personnel for base defence had improved tremendously.

At the end of the bush exercise, Air Marshal Abubakar had lunch with all the trainees of the RTC, an act that boosted their morale. While at the RTC, the CAS decorated Sergeant Laku Ibrahim and Lance Corporal Yakubu Zachariah with their new higher ranks of flight sergeant and corporal respectively. The two airmen had since been promoted for their gallantry while participating in the counterinsurgency operations in the North East but they could not be decorated earlier, as they were indisposed. In his address, the CAS stated that the NAF would not relent in its efforts at rewarding excellence, commitment and dedication to duty. He therefore urged all the trainees to remain focused as they were critical to the security of Nigeria and Nigerians. He then expressed his appreciation to the BMATT for their partnership with the NAF, which resulted in the training of the NAF personnel. The CAS had since returned to Abuja for other official engagements.
