In present day Nigeria under president Buhari/Osinbajo, you need at least NGN200,000 monthly to live a basic life and live in a decent 2-bedroom apartment in a low income city area in Nigeria.

But if your wife to be is working and earning at least NGNG100,000 monthly, that is very okay to start a family with her...if not, it won't be that easy with the current inflation.

Mathematically:

House rent per annum = NGN350,000; NGN30,000 monthly

Monthly feeding with your wife alone = NGN3000 x 30 = NGN90,000 monthly feeding

Other daily expenditures + helping family members, etc = NGN100,000 monthly

Clothing and others monthly = NGN50,000

Total projected/estimated monthly expenditures = NGN30,000 + NGN90,000 + NGN100,000 + NGN50,000 = NGN270,000

So with an income of NGN270,000 monthly, u can start a decent home with your wife to be, good luck smiley
Spend all as you earn? No savings and investment at all?

ALL IZZ WELL

Any amount of money is reasonable before marriage. True love is important before marriage. When their is true love, money won't determine the happiness of the marriage.

Economics not love pays school fees. Money not emotions or hope pays house rent, entertainment, healthcare, feeding, transportation etc. One of the major causes of divorce globally is finance (either lack or reduced amount of it).

It is true that there are lots of mature single sisters in our society today, it is also true that there are loads of single men in our society. could it be that men not settling down is the reason most women are still single. Most of the men we dated as undergraduate migth still be single 10years afer leaving school ( I know a lot). Most men I have asked, excuse boils down to money even though they have jobs.
This brings me to my question how much should a man be earning before he should start thinking of marriage all things being equal.
I am surprised at some advice here on Nairaland
So many people forming posh, claiming 100k, 250k monthly.
The truth z that people earn as low as #18k as minimum wage in our country Nigeria.
Just try to accumulate for the 1st two/three years
I don't know what u earn but u know urself better.
Don't mind young people that re still dwelling on fantasy to advise you, otherwise u will stay for up to 50 years b4 getting married.
They are different social class of people in our society, some need 50k, 100k, 200k, 500k, 1m, 5m etc
U know the class u fall in.
Go ahead and start ur family happily.
Find the right woman and u re good 2go.
Best of luck

what's ur own business? why are u begging people? is everybody not entitled to their opinion? you have nothing to contribute to this nation than increase in population when the white folks are inventing wonders. you're a primitive black man who should be ashamed of yourself. if you like, marry at 18,no one is stopping you. 70 year old Donald Trump has a 10 year old child and Donald is far better than your father who has grown up children in every way. Africans with stupid mentalities. nonsense. must you wait for the day you will reap off your children? and must you just settle for any woman cos you want to marry?

Sir, with due respect, you should exercise decorum as everyone is entitled to their opinion.

You don't know his job or advocacy as such, you should not be hasty with your opinion. Direct your questions to the rich men and politicians who probably have not contributed significantly to the the building of Nigeria, even with our collective wealth in their purview.

So because some people are inventing (taking into cognisance constant electricity, good road and government support at their disposal) then you should pick on him? Is he the government or the one in charge of the wealth and affairs of Nigeria? Give Nigerian youth same opportunity, and you would see wonders. Direct your questions to the appropriate quarters.

When has Donald Trump become the "standard"? Probably your own standard of " good" your opinion. Why on earth should you insult his dad? Even if he has 50 children, that's not your concern. Just because Donald Trump is the U.S president and a billionaire, with fame and glitz does not make him better than anyone. His money and influence, his business.

He never expressly said that he wants to feed off his children. I kind of agree that nobody should marry just about anybody.

N:B Any guy that can cater for 2 or more mouth, has a shelter, and can fufil the basic life requirement, please get married, it is better in all ramification; even if you are 22!

Do you call this an advice or a call for pity. Carry this truckload of crap that you call an advice. So my kids must be grown up when I'm 60 OR what? If your billions didn't come Mine will. This is a mediocre advice that I will not accept. Some people pick the wrong methods to making money and start throwing crappy advice. You obviously weren't persistent OR smart enough to make money. You don't chase success my man you attract it. Here's an advice for you if opportunity hasnt knocked on your door yet, build a BIGGER DOOR

In all honesty, is that the kind of lifestyle you intend living? Tomorrow you'll come complaining when he has 10 children he cannot take ADEQUATE and PROPER care of.

Marriage is not a child's play. Someone accused the present generation of placing money at the top in marriage.

Newsflash: Things are different today. The economy is tough. Standard of living expectations is high. Finance plays a very important role in relationships of the opposite sex.

Yes, one must not be a billionaire before getting married. However, one should have a reasonable amount of resources to live a decent life.
Look I am a graduate, I am working earning reasonable amount that can take care of two wives yet I choose to marry one which I am yet to. If you want be a pure water saller, if you are focus you can make a happy family.

Good day all,pls I need your advice on an issue. Has anyone worked with a terrible head teacher before? I teach in a school where the proprietress resides abroad and the head teacher behaves irrationally. When I got the job,I noticed they were operating the old teaching method and since I have a little experience,I suggested we include sounds and some modern ways of teaching, she declined and insisted on the old. Someone then advised I speak with the proprietress which I did and she was so impressed. I guess she now sees the head teacher's incompetence and told her to make me an H.O.D. That was the beginning of my night mare, she doesn't answer my greetings,if there is any duty am supposed to carry out she gives it to another teacher. She behaves as if I don't exist.I wish to resign but I submitted the name of the school for my PGDE teaching practice and its irreversible. Am already dreading resuming with her again. I don't want to report her to the proprietress so it doesn't look like I want her gone but am just confused. Any advise pls? No bashing pls.

1. Presently, I'm working under a boss like dt. Be u a teacher or student, once u have just one issue with her, u're in her black bk 4 life!

2. Your boss feels insecure because of ur 'light'. Unfortunately, there's nothing she nor u can do abt dt. My boss'll rather delegate a junior to a task/input/benefits meant 4 me just to spite me/reduce my influence. I act with indifference to these attitudes. I greet her every time (often wirh a smile)and dt even makes her more insecure.

3. Be prayerful as ppl like dt can go d extra mile to 'rope u'. They could also be diabolical.

4. Try as much as possible not to 'pull d rug off her feet'. Just continue to be diligent and prayerful. Time and chance will be d leveller at the end of the day.

5. Just as d soil which kills d seed (thru suffocation) is also responsible for her germination/growth (thru incubation and d soil nutrients it provides), note dt her antagonism is a sacrifice to ur greatness. Remember, "all things work together for good to dm dt believe...."

6. You don't need to resign- except a better offer shows up! The antagonist is to strengthen u. If we look at d discomfort d soil gives to d seed, we'll keep uprooting and replanting it and ultimately, the seed won't germinate nor grow.

Most peeps claiming that 450k is a normal marital standard are actually earning less than a hundred thousand a month with the current biting recession, even if we are so passionate to be financially successful, we should also realize that time waits for no one.. Most ladies can actually be productive and contribute to the growth of the family, and with God's grace and favour, the family will expand and be successful.... Wealth does not come by being the most intelligent person on earth, neither does it come by the number of connections or degrees u have... True and sustainable wealth comes from above.... So as a man if ur income is reasonable and ur wife is also gainfully employed.. Even if she has her own business,as long as she can contribute to the growth of the family....

The funniest thing is that there are guys who earn more than enough and remain unmarried but guys who earn 40k or less jump into marriages hoping things will get better which is not logical.

Don't make yourself poorer by jumping into marriage.
