See oyinbo man life dey very easy. They know you are going for "greener" pasture ( dont know if its really green like that)

All they want from you is come and show me (without misrepresenting) that 99% you will spend in class and 1 % doing paper wahala and. Side hustle

But the problem with most Nigerians is that they go to the embassy with a 50-50 (hustle and schooling) mindset and those folks are trained to keep you out when they detect the slightest of bullshit.

During visa interviews you have to be a sleek talker not a sneaky talker

No solid data to back up. I doubt this anyway

What data do you need again?
How many family members, friends or acquaintances of yours do you know from a developing country or third world has ever gone back to their home country after completing their study?

Start with yourself will you go back to Nigeria when done?? Even though you told the VO otherwise.

The United States immigration process is too fluid and porous.

60% of sham marriages that go on in this country undetected can NEVER happen in the UK or Australia

Thank you for your comment. I seriously have home ties here. I got a promotion in January with a good salary increase and I have been in the banking sector for 4 yrs now. So I really don't understand what you mean. Needless to say, my dad is a US citizen so if I really wanted to migrate desperately, I would have asked to file an immigrant visa for me but I have a job and a business I run here which is going great. Then again, the delay is best known to the Visa Officer.

@cmbagwu we also had same white paper with passport handed back to my sister. Did they asterisk the administrative processing section? or the paper was blank without the vo's ink? i sent u a PM, pls respond... thank you!

cmbagwu:
My visa was delayed yesterday the 9th of June by a young VO in Windows 4 after delaying the guy before me. I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong. I was as confident as the VO.

VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning and how're your?
VO: Great! Please pass me your passport, Sevis and i20.
Me: There you go. Passed them.
VO: Why did you choose this course?
Me: I chose to study Public Affairs because, asides the fact that it's a sub-field of my undergraduate study which is Political Science, this course is a vital requirement needed to take up a position as a Public relations officer after my masters degree.
VO: So you will come back to your place of work when you finish your masters?
Me: Yes please but as a Public relations officer as I am currently a Customer Service Executive in my place of work.
VO: So where do you work and what are your duties?
Me: I work with XYZ Bank PLC as a customer service executive and I manage the social media platform which is Facebook, Live chat and Twitter handle. I'm duly responsible for handling customers queries and complaints and I provide feedback from customers not satisfied with a particular product or service to the unit involved for proper review of the complaint and possible timely resolution which is conveyed to customers on these platforms. We also monitor the channels (Mobile app, Online banking and ATM) for network fluctuations.
VO: Okay.. So what will this course do for you?
Me: This course will give me the knowledge and insights to manage emerging issues in my organization both internally and externally. It will also help me develop current policies and besides, it's a vita requirement needed to take up a position in my current place of work.
VO: Are you married?
Me: No please.
VO: Any kids?
Me: None for now.
VO: I can see Public affairs on your DS 160 and on your i20 I'm seeing Public administration.
Me: My admission is in Public affairs but when my I20 was sent to the US government for processing they didn't have my course of study as it is stated on their system and the course closely related was Public administration. Both courses have same curriculum and course outlines. So it's no different but just the name.
VO: Okay. Starts typing for a minute or two.
VO: Have you traveled outside the country before?
Me: No please, haven't had a reason to until now.
Vo: Okay. Types again and again and again.
Then he handed me a white paper. As I was about to jubilate, he gave me back my passport and i20... and he said, I'm sorry I won't be granting you a visa at this time. Then I looked at the paper.. 214B. Now in a white paper... I shook my head.
Me: May I please confirm why I'm being delayed again?
VO: it's written in the paper I just gave you.
Me: Thank you. Didn't know where I gathered the strength to laugh. But I laughed anyways.

This isn't the end of the world. I said to myself. I just drafted a mail and sent to my school telling them about the discrepancy in my admission letter, and what I have on my i20 and the international office was kind enough to send me a mail stating the reason for the discrepancy and asked me to print it and send apply again.

I have chosen to defer till Spring 2018 coz school (New Mexico Highlands University) resumes on the 15th and I don't want to start explaining and speaking English at the POE.. Let me give myself time.

Nothing was in asterisk. It's the 214B they gave me but in a white paper.

It means what we got wasn't the 214B. Pls reply the pm. Cos what we got was the exact paper for approval with a case no written and the asterisk on the administrative processing. Let's believe they get back to us positively cos my dad demanded to know how fast we would get a reply since school has resumed, she said they will try to do what they can.

cmbagwu:

Why would you rather "immigrate" to the USA to go and study as an international student when you have HUGE benefits if you travel under the F1 or IR2

Your I-20 states your program of study as Public Administration because the SEVIS system does not list Public Affairs or Political government and Processes. As DSO's we are to choose the title that best fits our school's program of study for I-20 purposes.
You can change the DS 160 to match your I-2O as that is what is stated on your I-20.

so since you have seen the requirement and you meet them, what validation are you looking for again? Simply go ahead if your GPa doesnt require you to write GRE and you have the funds. Its as simple as ABC. And by the way, what is all these 'wanna' , picking /forming the black american getho slang is not the way and wont do you any good. Have you seen academic papers with slangs like 'aint, 'wanna' etc? What you keep doing will eventually become part of you and it wont be of any good. Educated americans dont speak nor communicate like this.

Yet another sound interview , and yet VO plays god again.

Let's face it, there is nothing special about a public administration degree in the US. You can get the same degree in Nigeria for far less. No wife, no kids, no real reason to return after school. Pretty straightforward denial.

People have been granted visa for less 'stellar' courses/responses. The dude just met a hardnut and should study more so as to make a stronger case and try again.

He didn't meet a hardnut, just a guy doing his job according to the law. There is no right to an f1 visa.

Of course it's no right; but then VOs that do grant visas for less 'stellar' courses/responses are also doing their job according to the law… unless you think otherwise. The only reason he was denied was that discrepancy in his i20 and DS160. Once that is cleared and the guy tries again with more preparation, I believe he will get the visa for that course. There is nothing wrong with studying that course in the US/anywhere overseas… or any course for that matter, so long as you can make a convincing case.

We don't know why VOs approve or deny folks. The best we can do is speculate. That being said, there are some simple things we can pick up. We know that VOs have a zero tolerance for inaccuracies. they say it here all the time. If you're going for public affairs, well there should be zero reason you present an I20 that says something different at your interview when you've had all day to correct it.

Secondly, we have no idea why those with "less stellar" courses are granted visas. Could it be they have better ties which our man here does not have?

Chinedu Mbagwu,

I have nothing to lose I do not need a student visa.

For your own sake better sit yourself down and find a University that meets 100% your study and career. needs . not doing tumbo tumbo and hurriedly trying to cross over.

"Best fit" is not the same as original.na you they pay for school dont allow them sweet talk you in doing What you did not want to study unless you are telling me no university in the USA offers Public Affairs or Pol Science as a discipline.

The VOs can see when you in such a hurry.Find another school and try more lucrative disciplines like Public RElations (nice field with potentials) it will gel Wella with your current customer service job (if you go gree go back to naija as you claim grin)

Brother na my 2 cent be that we no dey struggle wife (my wife is enough headache for me grin)
