I spent a little more than one week in that their Tin Can last year and I can authoritatively tell U that d agents are neck deep into d scam wt d custom officials themselves.An agent somebody recommended for me pocketed a large chunk of d money he charged me to clear my car and then paid for 2007 model,used biro to alter d year to 2009 and when customs placed an alert on d car,he started telling me FG increased duty,bla bla bla.
I took d next available flight to Lagos and went to that Tin Can command wt a customs officer friend and d truth was revealed to us.
I ended up spending another 800k in fines and bribes b4 d car was released to me.
The sad part is that that is what 90% of d so called agents do cos I spent at least 7 working days in that Tin Can and was just observing d so called agents perform all sorts of dishonest acts,would call their clients on d phone and tell them all sorts of lies,some will collude wt d custom agents and underpay,when u get on d road wt Ur car,wetin U see,U take.
And for d guy saying U need 30million bla bla bla to set up DTI abi wetin,do U mean to tell us that every of those hungry looking miscreants wt a 50naira paper ID card on his neck paid 30m??
As I said earlier, d customs officials are enjoying d sleaze too,that's why they cannot liberalise d process so ppl can clear their cars themselves cos if d security men at d customs seat don't know u or u don't have that kpakoo ID card, they won't allow U in,U will only rely on what d crooked agents and their partners in crime tell U.

Another FG and ANLCA fisticuff is about to start again,government is about to start another useless policy but ANLCA is also ready to start in the gap.




CRFFN Registrar begs ANLCA to support POF collection.



Realising that it would be difficult to collect the controversial professional operating fee (POF) at the seaports, airports and border posts without the support of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), the Registrar, Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Sir Mike Jukwe on Thursday stormed a meeting of the association to beg its members to shift their grounds.

“After daring us and thinking that he could ride roughshod over our association, it has suddenly dawned on him that the POF cannot happen without ANLCA so he rushed from Abuja to our National Executive Council meeting (NECOM) in Port Harcourt to beg us to support the collection,” a member of ANLCA who was at the meeting informed SHIPS & PORTS DAILY.

It may be recalled that ANLCA recently accused Jukwe and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of flouting a court order, which issued an order stopping collection of the controversial POF.

ANLCA said the fee will increase the cost of doing business at the port, and that its collection amounts to violation of an order of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, which had directed that status quo be maintained pending determination of a case instituted by the association.

“It is contempt of court for the Honourable Minister and the CRFFN Registrar to commence collection of POF. We have been informed that the Minister has sent a letter to terminal operators to collect the fee for CRFFN but we will not hesitate to use any legal backing to stop this illegal collection,” ANLCA National Publicity Secretary, Prince Kayode Farinto had informed SHIPS & PORTS DAILY recently.

CRFFN is expected to rake in as much as N10 billion annually from the imposition of N1,000 on every imported twenty-feet container and N2,000 on every forty-feet container. CRFFN will also collect N1,000 per truck load of general cargo, N500 per imported car and N1,000 on other types of imported vehicles.

However, ANLCA’s opposition has stalled collection of the fee.

ANLCA officials however reportedly gave Jukwe conditions under which they will back the POF collection.

The major condition, according to a source, is the constitution of the CRFFN Governing Council.

yes u can bring in furniture, though from the circular sent from the minister of interior ban as been lifted off,but the customs still consider it as contraband so we do settle for it from the point of examination to gate of customs delivery

Gave a quote of N1.5m to a client only for him to handover the BOL to another agent that quoted N2.3m cos that one managed to convince him that his papers were going to be more original. Today again, I'm dealing with a man that was given fake papers supposedly from TINCAN for a car bought from COTONOU just last week (the replacement ones) and I gave him a quote of N800,000,the cost of getting another set of papers for a 2011 hyundai ELANTRA through f.o.u at Ikeja and he wants to handover the job to another person with a quote of N600,000.

For the issue, the way I understand it is that the new agent handling the job is claiming the alert was caused by previous agent, which is only possible if the job was assessed before handing over to him. If not, to me, it is a plane greed from the agent after 2m and now want the owner to pay DN of 750k. That means the initial amount paid was below 900k from my own view. To avert further waste of time and demurrage, advice your client to rase it or share the loss with the agent.

This is what happens when people are cajoled to believing what is not. Your previous post on how to satisfy thw m says it all.
