You should be more concerned about a potential visit from the police at your home address and subsequent arrest.

It must be a very serious case that's currently under investigation for the bank to have taken this step.

i was told dat i wont b able to open another account as my BVN has been flagged. Dis has been my greatest mistake and regret
the said amount is 50k.can they use cctv footage to id the man?
Go to a police station, file a report. Explain everything. Then proceed to your bank with the police report. You may also swear an affidavit in court stating your innocence. They will forward these to their compliance unit and after investigations, your account will be freed.

Fear not though, you may still operate other bank account, BVN or not. I hope you've learnt from your mistake. All the best.

Hello bro
I was a victim of that same method at Ibadan Skye bank An elderly man approached that he needed to take money out for his treatment, he tried to use the ATM card in my presence and notice the card was not working. During my turn he ask me if he can transfer money to my acct and help him to take out.. I told him he can transfer the money to my acct but let me withdraw from my personal money alas! Right there he made a transfer and receive alert show my name and amount debited he even ask me to collect his number for any problem.
My broda till today no money enter my account but an elderly man for goodness sake. I have move on from that experience but never never accept anyone to use your account or transfer money inside. Maybe my account would have been frozen too, I never receive the amount transfer for the useless old man. It's happened at Skye bank gate Ibadan. Sorry for the stress you pass through. I give up on naija ooo

Same thing almost happened to me on Abuja recently. I was at an Zenith Bank ATM plaza to make a withdrawal. There were like four free ATM machines and I choose the first machine. I was carrying out my transaction when an elderly man approached me requesting to transfer funds into my account through his phone and for me to help him withdraw it with my ATM card. I queried him as to why he could not use one of the free ATM machines? He replied that he forgot his card at home and he needed funds immediately. I became suspicious of his fidgety nature and told him I could not help him and left the place. I did not think anything of this until I saw this thread.

Good day nairalanders, i am using this medium to seek for your advice or legal counsel(from our lawyers). Last week i tried to use my debit card for online transaction but it wasn't successful so i went to my bank to lodge a complaint concerning my ATM. But to my greatest surpise, i was told that my bank account has been frozen. I then made an enquiry to know the reason why they froze the account, i was told that it was used to launder money from a stolen card....
Send me a pm. I'm a lawyer.

@OP,

Like many have said here, you may be in more serious trouble than a blocked bank account. This is a criminal matter and you don't yet know the magnitude of what you are involved in. I say this because my best friend is currently serving a long term imprisonment in Mariapa County Jail in America for allowing unknown "friends" pass US$5,600 through his bank account. It is dangerous...it is very dangerous!

As you may not know, this case may include murder, rape or even terrorism or whatever crime these criminals committed wherever they got the card from. Unfortunately, you are the only lead that the banks and law enforcement have right now and if the case goes cold from you onward, prosecution may pile all the crimes on you up to conviction and then move on, case closed.

Why did you allow yourself get warped in this matter? This style is used globally by these criminals and many innocent folks are in jail till date for crimes they didn't commit.

Get a good lawyer, if you can afford one. If you can't, maybe you might consider permanent relocation from Nigeria to some other affordable country. That is if EFCC, SFU or the regular police pursue you for this case. Cuz, as i see it, without expert representation from a good lawyer, Kirikiri is a likely end point! Be warned, please don't take this matter lightly!

it was during the first week of june, i went to the ATM to make withdrawal.. As usual it was a very long queue. A middleaged man approached me to help him withdraw cash by transferring cash to my account. I agreed to help him due to his urgency. I never knew he used a stolen card! This has been given serious concern and its d reason why i brought d issue so as to know what to do...
Well U have no one else to blame.u are liable to criminal case in court . Your accounts recieved stolen funds. If you don't have reasonable amount in that account leave it .With the awareness going in I'm dumbfounded that you agreed for such transactions . Your best line of action would have been to send him to the bank .

In sane countries, you will be typing from jail by now.
Talk to an attorney fast before police open office for your head and next time, don't make such mistake again grin

A country where the OP would be writing from the jail cannot be said to be SANE. In a sane country, a competent court has to be convinced beyond doubt that the original writer is indeed guilty as charged through available evidence, before he can be sent to prison.

I hope it does not become more than this.

There is no limit to how the stolen card could have been obtained

Robbery, kidnapping, murder.

You have inadvertently set yourself up as an accomplice.

Of course, this is assuming that you are a victim and not a willing accomplice.

Your account was used to receive proceeds from a fraudulent transaction. Nobody will believe you that you don't know the fraudster. You are luck that you were not arrested initially. Go back to the branch and ask the way out. This is a fraud case.

The same thing happened to me o my Wema Bank acct has been Freezed.

A classmate stole his mum's money and transfer it to my account..

I will have be in jail now if no be GOD

Though the thing was later settled and the boy was no where to be found

My greatest mistake was going to the bank to withdraw the money he transferred to my account.

But later I discovered that my account has been Freezed.

Tho i am using two bank Skye Bank and Wema Bank..

I lodge complaint but I was asked to go and rectify some changes in my BVN at Skye Bank (the bank I create my BVN with)

But my thought is that The name I used in Skye Bank is different from Wema Bank e.g Adekola Adewumi Martins in Skye Bank and Adewumi Martins Adekola in Wema Bank (not my real name).

Maybe that got them to freeze my acct.. Tho! i have 7,000 in the account but I don't. saving again since my account was Freezed.

Though am yet to do what I was asked to do at Skye Bank... but planning to go later this week..

Please hope there is no problem with my account...

If you can help me, send me a mail we gonna chat on WhatsApp and I will tell you the FULL ordeal (how it all start)
