Yyeske:Quit Notice: Igbo Groups Urge Arewa Youths To Assist Army In Fighting Bokoharam By Chioma Gabriel & Dennis Agbo Two Igbo groups, the Igbo Peoples Congress, IPC, and the Igbo Aborigines have tasked the Arewa Youths Coalition to make efforts to assist Nigerian soldiers fighting the Boko Haram insurgents in the North East to apprehend Abubakar Shekau and his top commanders who are trying to foister an Islamic Republic in Nigeria violently. The groups said Islamic seccessionists have killed more than a hundred thousand Nigerians since the inception of its war against Nigeria. They said the Arewa youths should also make effort to tackle the Almajiri issue which past rulers in the North used in keeping the talakawas eternally poor. Spokesmen of the groups, Pastor Okey Colbert and Mazi Obisike Chidi also demanded an unreserved apology from the Arewa youths to Igbos for the unconstitutional quit notice they gave in the North, saying this should follow their recent withdrawal of the obnoxious notice. The groups also warned against re-arrest of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, noting that there is no reason whatsoever to do so since the Arewa youths were never arrested nor were the authors of the hate song that was spewed against Igbos in the North. They congratulated the Vice President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Middle belt, Niger Delta, Afenifere, Yoruba leaders and men with good conscience in Arewa land, who stood against the quit notice. They noted that the quit notice was the worst thing that has happened in Nigeria since the end of the war and hoped it will never happen again in any part of Nigeria, no matter the provocations. Political imbalance in the country Also the groups called on the federal government to address the structural and political imbalance in the country which they said are skewed against the Igbo. “This also has negative effect on the economic development of Igbo land.” On the killing of a boy at Eke Ukwu Market in Owerri, the groups called for the prosecution of Governor Rochas Okorocha for that heinous killing and the dismissal/trial of the Brigade Commander at Obinze, Brigadier Bature for extra judicial killing. “Okorocha cannot hide under immunity clause to perpetrate crime against Imo people and create the condition that led to the murder of the innocent boy by overzealous Nigerian soldiers at Owerri. The president and his security chiefs should warn the army and security agents against extra judicial killings which is getting rampant all over the country.” Another group considers genocide threat for ICC Meantime, a Human Rights group, Streetlaw Africa Incorporated, has threatened to drag the federal government, its officials and leaders of Arewa youths to the International Criminal Court, ICC, at The Hague, Holland, if the federal High court in Abuja fails to attend to two suits it filed against the government and persons on the threat of genocide to Ndigbo residing in parts of northern Nigeria. The group said it has perceived attempts by Nigerian courts to evade prosecutions of the respondents, noting that the threat is a real and orchestrated plot to repeat the genocide the northerners executed on the people of Eastern Nigeria from 1966 to 1970 when the civil war ended. It went further to recount that even after the civil war ended in Nigeria, the northerners continued genocides on Easterners in different dimensions such as in the 2011 general elections when Igbos were massacred for no just cause. It therefore noted that it would be more suicidal for the Igbo race to keep quiet until they are slaughtered in droves again in Nigeria. Call it what ever you want but the truth remains the South East you like to deride has taken a step in the right direction (a bold step at that)with the current agitation going on. Nigeria can not thrive effectively as presently constituted. It's not sustainable and those in the know will tell you. And theirs nothing wrong in letting Biafra go if that's what they so desire. The enemy of Nigeria are those shouting one Nigeria on the top of their voice without any plans on how to build a sustainable economy and at the same time making Nigeria livable for everyone. This proponent of one Nigeria are also the ones who will tell you that Nigeria is not negotiable in a form or way. While their idea of one Nigeria is an unworkable status quo that has only favoured and enriched a few elite and political jobbers. This is not just about the agitation for Biafra , The time to face the truth and proffer credible ways forward is now. We can not continue robbing Peter to pay Paul and believe it will go on forever. No economy survives on that bases alone so Nnamdi Kanu's agitation is a wake up to all and sundry especially those of us in the south to take our future into our hands if people from other region are not willing to help them selves by growing their regional economy instead of leeching off on others. maclatunji: 5 Likes |

freshest4live: Stop pretending to be smart when you are obviously dumb! Are you aware that according to the UN charter of rights of self determination of indigenous people that MARGINALIZATION is not even a prerequisite for self determination? That the rights of self determination rest with every given people whether marginalized or not. What it actually means is that even if igbos were not marginalized for example yet they still have the rights of self determination whenever they decides to activate it. Scotland called for 2nd referendum for not being carried along during the Brexit. If it were to be in Nigeria, you will say that doesn't merit a referendum. Catalonians live in a first world country with the basic amenities of life yet Catalonians want to go. Igbos have 1001 reasons to go. Since the amalgamation in 1914,igbos have lost more lives and properties to keep Nigeria one than any other tribe. 4 Likes |

warripekin:What is your idea of one Nigeria? It's possible we agree on that but do you think using secession as a scare tactic to acheive a transformed Nigeria is sustainable in the long run? You can take your destiny into your hands and even join Charlie boy and Deji in OUR MUMU DON DO. But secession should not be discussed because the unity of Nigeria or the Zoo(if you like) is non negotiable. |

RisingSun1:Igbo's lost lives to keep Nigeria one? that's a new one. Scotland is not an ethnic group and can even be called a nation already in every way. The Catalonians have been on this matter for 300years, and still l don't think they would get it. The Catalonia's are even better because they can sustain themselves, they already control things in Spain. |

freshest4live:This is an absolute idiotic comment! You were informed that 1) Marginalization is not even a prerequisite for self determination. Meaning that even if Igbo were not marginalized, they still reserved the right of self determination according to the UN charter. 2)That what lead to Scotland and Catalonia agitations does not come close to what Igbos havepassed thru in Nigeria.Yet these people are still agitating to exit Spain and UK respectively. 4 Likes |

RisingSun1:If things were that simple then we would have more than 20 nations seceding across the world annually simply because of a UN charter. In Kenya recently, opposition group lost an election and now they are also singing the song of secession. A group would just organize themselves any time to demand secession, it doesn't work that way. If you secede, Bendel secedes, Yoruba secedes, Arewa secedes, etc in a sprint of secessions, that would be independence to 5-6 new countries and at least 3 new South Sudan's and possible refugee crises. UN would never make such a mistake twice. 1 Like 1 Share |

What's my idea of one Nigeria? Simple let's go back to the 1963 republic constitution. For me that's the most people oriented constitution ever written in Nigeria and that constitution is a true people's constitution the subsequent ones that followed were championed by the military and they overtly favoured a section of the country. The 1978 constitution and the one we are practicing simply entrenched unitary system and called it federal system. That by it self is an anathema. Both constitution were simply written to exploit and not to build or develop . Starting with the land use act, the destiny of Nigerians were turned into the hand of the government and you and I can see how well it's been managed. Again with the charade and shenanigans we see in Abuja these days, it's been proven the presidential system of government is too expensive than the parliamentary system and the presidential system is not suitable for Nigeria. Yes I would prefer a regional system of government where the economy is grown from ground up as obtainable in the first republic and people are willing to pay taxes because it's their civic duty unlike what obtains now where the economy is built from top down. I liken Nigeria to former Yugoslavia, therefore saying Nigeria is not negotiable and that secession is not possible is simply begging the question. Yugoslavia sounded like Nigeria once, their leadership of the day said yugoslavia is not negotiable and that it's sacrosanct but eventually what happened? War broke out and the same non-negotiable Yugoslavia splitted into smaller countries and some of the proponent of one indivisible Yugoslavia like slobadan milosvich are serving jail terms at the Hague for committing war crime and crime and against humanity. Same thing will likely happen in Nigeria if we continue the way we are going. Nigeria is negotiable and every ethnic group have a write to want out or to stay. You can't beat that. freshest4live: 4 Likes 1 Share |

RisingSun1:Those were under separate circumstances. There's no reason for Nigeria to split rather to reform herself or establish the basis of her unity. Tell me how do you hope to acheive the secession? Don't tell me it's by Shouting Biafra or death on the street. |

I dont know how somebody can call a mere 1914 "colonial arrangement" called Nigeria their country. If Nigeria is actually anybody's country, it is the country of Frederick Lugard and his wife, Flora Lugard. He created it, she named it. As a result of this colonial creation, which nobody was consulted, someone in Maidugri will be telling an Igbo man like me in Enugu that we are 'one'. How? What is my connection to Maidugri? What historical connection did we Igbos have with Hausa or Yoruba before the coming of Lugard? Absolutely zero! Because Lugard came, we are now ONE NIGERIA? I laugh in Chinese How can somebody be telling us Igbos what our country is? Did we say we dont know how to form our own country? So what is all this unity begging for? I totally support the independence of the Igbo nation from the British colonial fraud called Nigeria! 1 Like |

maclatunji:This mumu is still claiming intellectual Lol Scope and limitations or not. Fact is; It's that UN Rights that legitimatized what we are doing today. Also, Biafra don't really need the whole UN members to get independence. We only need one or two security council members thru persistent lobbying to achieve what we want. Those powers at the security council always gets whatever they want with or without UN approval. Iraqi invasion is a typical example. The whole essence of the UN charter is that it's it that gave us the legal backing to embark on our agitation 1 Like |

maclatunji: I was tempted to ignore you, but...... Questions for you: 1. The ruling constitution is 1999 constitution that starts with..."WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA...." How many Nigerians were consulted by the military juntas that wrote this constitution which you are now relying on as a basis for subjugating the will of people of Biafra? 2. How do you know that the people of South Eastern region are Nigerians, even as you see them massively saying otherwise? 3. When does self determination and agitation for self governance amount to "WAR" in a civilized clime? 4. How many parties are engaged in a war combat? 5. If IPOB conducts all its activites {as we can see) without lifting a gun, who fights who? Let me stop here for now! 2 Likes |

Well , you don't expect me to come to nairaland to announce to you my movement or what I have or have not done regarding Nigeria's constitutional review. Neither will I waste my time here narrating my ordeal or experience with the national assembly. There he goes raising the Lagos question. first and foremost lagos is what it is because of the Nigerian situation . A situation where Niger Delta oil and the nations common wealth was used in developing lagos because of its federal capital status just as it is being done in Abuja today. A situation where the oil companies left there regions where productions actually takes place and sets up its headquarters in lagos and pay their taxes there. My community Ugbuangue today suffers the casualties of shell and chevron leaving our shores and NPA port Warri also within my community completely shut down in the name of oil and gas processing zone why nothing really goes on there. Whereas the lagos ports are called commercial ports and are made to boom. I remember the Warri port was once a commercial, it was a behive back then and traders from onitsha came there to clear their goods. Today even Intel is no where to be found.Trust me the lagos you boast so much about today, Should Nigeria properly restructures or even breaks , most of the companies that ran away from from these region will find their way back or they will simply not operate here anymore. We know 70% of importers are from the south East and they all go through lagos now but when the status quo changes, we will give them crazy insensitives that will attract them back. Your lagos is only growing at our detriment not because you have don anything special. maclatunji: 2 Likes |

che8: Am I supposed to celebrate my not being ignored? #Yipee #Yihaa #WooHoo che8: The 1999 constitution is based largely on the 1979 Constitution and yes Nigerians sat to draft it. No constitution is written by all or even millions of its people starting from the United States that you Biafran agitators are dashing to in hopes of getting support. #LOL che8: This one is easy, according to the constitution: By birth-namely- (a) Every person born in Nigeria after the date of independence (October 1, 1960), either of whose parents or any of whose grandparents belongs or belonged to a community indigenous to Nigeria; Provided that a person shall not become a citizen of Nigeria by virtue of this section if neither of his parents nor any of his grandparents was born in Nigeria. (b) Every person born outside Nigeria either of whose parents is a citizen of Nigeria. (2) In this section, "the date of independence" means the 1st day of October 1960. Besides, the people of the Southeast voted for Nigeria when millions turned out for the 2015 general elections. I did not see Togolese or Cameroonians turning out to vote in that election. che8: It becomes treasonable if you seek to break away from Nigeria. You may largely govern your state within Nigeria freely within the confines of the constitution. Freedom has never and will never be absolute. che8: If you ask me, na who I go ask? Ask the che8: IPOB has done enough damage already which includes incitement, sedition and lots more. Only an intellectually-challenged individual would wait for a group to carry arms before considering it illegal or dangerous after all that I have listed and more. Do not argue them with me, our laws make them crimes. che8: Yes, please stop, at best you are showing a lack of understanding of the issues you and others like you are toying with. |
