You just contradicted yourself, you said I am after oil & at the same time said i'm praying for it to finish! Fyi, Nigeria will still break up the moment oil becomes worthless & N.D can never be a country because the Itshekiri will never share a country where the ijaws will be a majority likewise the Ikwere, while Anioma people have been seeking to rejoin their Igbo brothers. A minimum of four mushroom countries will emerge from N.D while those with links to Igbos will merge with Biafra, that is the reality!

This is a complete and unimaginable falsehood. Igbo business men, home and abroad rewarded General Effiong with huge cash, but the selfless and strict Biafran deputy leader turned it down. The poor now resort to skull mining and rituals for survival.

Considering your premise it should be interesting to have your answer to the following questions. In all the circumstances. 1. How selfless was Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu? 2. How selfless is Nnamdi Kanu?

What about Igbos indigenous to your so called South-South states? What happens to Asaba people, Ibusa people, Okpanam, Oshimili and all the Igbo elements of Delta state?

What about the Igbos of Rivers? Obigbo, Asa, Ndoki, Etche and the rest? What will you say to Minister of Transport and former Governor of Rivers, Chibuike Amaechi, an Ikwerre man who recently said "nobody should deny me my Igbo heritage"

What about the Benue Igbos?

People like Nnamdi Kanu and Asari Dokubo are proposing that Biafra becomes a confederation which I believe it should be. Igbos get their Region, Ijaw/Ogoni gets its own Region, Efik/Ibibio get their own Region. Every Region controls 100% of its resources and pays an agreed percentage to the center, nobody will be able to marginalise anybody. It wont even matter who the ruling class are.

Gowon created Rivers state to cause hate between brothers as well as steal the Oil wealth of the people. In the old Eastern Region, the provinces were getting 50% of whatever came out of their land. In Rivers state, they are getting 13%. So who lost at the end of the day?

This makes some good sense. Ex-President Obasanjo and his likes playing with the word "restructuring" should know Confederation is good for Nigeria. It makes for a big African player of a country where no component part feels "marginalized" since an essential feature of a confederation is a weak centre and stronger confederating units. A confederation compared with Federalism is cheaper to run and we'll discover no one really will be willing to give an arm and a leg just to sniff and snatch what Abuja has to offer.

Philip Effiong was never abandoned. Here are some facts people may not know.

Philip Effiong was the vice president and the last president of Biafra.

After the war, Philip Effiong lived for a while in Enugu and was well accomodated by Igbos.

In 2012, the government of Obasunjo granted official pardon to all ex Nigerian Soldiers who fought for Biafra such as Philip Effiong. Over 1.5 Billion Naira was released to pay their gratuity and pension.

When Philip Effiong died in 2013, a huge contigent of MASSOB members went to his village of ibiono ibom to give him a befitting burial.

So anyone who says that Philip Effiong was abandoned is just talking nonsense.
MASSOB waited until Effiong was dead before they paid him a visit. How interesting!

Considering your premise it should be interesting to have your answer to the following questions. In all the circumstances. 1. How selfless was Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu? 2. How selfless is Nnamdi Kanu?

Good question!! sad Like I said before on another thread, Ojukwu collected his properties, pardon and benefits, but never fought for the entitlements of those who were with him in Biafra, so they could get the same thing! shocked Now, if several years later, the fed govt decided to be magnanimous by paying the pension benefits of those people, how can anyone give the credit for this to Ojukwu or his kinsmen? He did nothing to make it happen! undecided Effiong died in 2003, before the fed govt started paying those pension benefits in 2011.

In fact, there is another different record that says it was the late Gen. Effiong who led delegations to the federal govt, to ask that the benefits accruing to the ex-Biafra servicemen should be paid!

Again, beyond his roles in Biafra’s surrender and efforts to set the records right, Gen. Effiong spent a great deal of effort trying to secure the military benefits and entitlements of the former Nigerian soldiers of eastern origin who fought on the Biafran side. He led delegations and rallies to the Federal Government in Abuja to attract attention to the need to settle these soldiers even though the Obasanjo/Danjuma establishment was not moved. Obviously, like many others after the war, it would have been easier for Gen. Effiong to go behind and try to use whatever connections he had in the army to secure only his own benefits. But true to his form, he thought it a mark of betrayal and insensitivity to fight only for his own benefits while the rest of the affected eastern officers were left in the rain. So he decided instead to take up the cause of all the affected soldiers.

Also, because Gen. Effiong is not a noisemaker, not many Nigerians know that he was the brain behind Gen. Ojukwu’s return from asylum in Ivory Coast. It was Gen. Effiong who pressured Shehu Shagari to grant pardon to Ojukwu. Initially, President Shagari told Gen. Effiong that he would first grant pardon to Gowon and see how Nigerians would react, and that if the reaction of Nigerians were not negative, then he would grant pardon to Ojukwu.

Fortunately Gowon’s pardon went well and Gen Effiong resumed pressure on Shagari to pardon Gen. Ojukwu. When finally Shagari yielded to Effiong’s request, Effiong personally traveled to Ivory Coast to communicate the good news to Gen. Ojukwu, but insisted that both kept it secret until its consummation. Yet when Ojukwu returned and it was time for celebrations, airport ceremonies and fanfare, Gen. Effiong stayed away from the limelight to let Ojukwu have his day. What more can Effiong do for the Igbos in particular, and Nigeria in general, by bringing a final closure to the civil war epitomized by Ojukwu’s return? http://nigeriaworld.com/articles/2004/jan/191.html

Anayordike:
This is just another stupid blackmail talk. You forgot that after the war the Igbo speaking were treated like out cast by almost all Nigerians including people from the south south. Majority of them did not want to be associated with anything Igbo. They said they are not Igbo just because we lose the war. But when anything good is associated with Igbo so they will smile and be happy to identify with Igbo.
It is a Sheer hypocrisy on the side of the poster to say that Ndị Igbo refers to include Effiong's for pension and gratuity and restoration of rank in the Nigerian army. Where was Effiong's then when Ojukwu went out alone to repossess his father's property seized by the government at V/I. Who are you expecting to blow your trumpet for you.

I thank God for the kind of survival spirit He gave the Igbo people. If not who would think that the Igbo speaking will ever amount to anything again in Nigeria and the whole world after the Civil War? Other tribes who fought the war on the Biafra side lost hope on the Igbos, therefore didn't see reason to continue to associate with Igbos. Then they were happy when the military governments of those created new states out of the old East Central State. They thought they were helping them to erase Igbo influence and association from them.

Even the people of Rivers State(P/H) in particular seized houses and other properties belonging to Igbos. We were all Biafrans(but they turn out to be saboteurs). Even the Ikwere people who speak Igbo dialect said they no longer Igbos. After being brainwashed by the North they turn their back against their own blood. Since then they have not known peace and they are still shedding their own blood. They think they can recreate what God has done by changing their names from "Umu" to "Rumu" etc. Confusion everywhere.

Till today I still respect Mr. Effiong and he will remain so. But his kinsmen and others will have to learn their lessons. God gave you guys the Igbo nation to protect you, to be your big brother, to fight for you. But you simply can't get it. Take it or leave it, Hausa/fulani are leading all the Northerners. The Yorubas are leading other tribes in the West. Why are the South South people rejecting the Igbo leadership? What? Just mere fear of domination. Who's even dominating you. Look at it again, during the Biafra Era, Ojukwu=Igbo was head of state.
Effiong=I ibi was vice/deputy and another Ibibi of man was Secretary of state etc. Where is the Igbo domination? Check your history or Google it and see that even during Era of Eastern Region and East Central state governments majority of the key government positions and appointments were occupied by other tribes who are not core Igbos.

So enough of all this blackmailing. Let Igbos be. If you can't support Igbos aspirations and struggles, don't stand on their way. Stop seeing Igbos as your problems. You are the architect of your own. As you make your bed, so you will lye on it. Let Igbos be! If they want freedom from Nigeria, it's their choice. If they still want Republic Biafra after the first Civil war ended 50 years ago, then you need no prophet to tell you that it's their destiny.
Come to think of it have the Igbos not be living since 50 years after the Civil War ended without the help of the government? The Gowon government gave a mere £20 to each Igbo person who had money banks out of the millions and billions of pounds and the rest was by federal might. And you want Nigeri economy to blossom? Did that happened to any Ijaw, Ibibio, Isthekiri, Isoko, Ikwere man? No!
There is no place on earth for your foolishness, so igbo is now a big brother to the ss....after you will say that hausa/fulani have borntorule mentality! Thunder strike ipob

Your point and logic here is a little confusing, who exactly are the people you refer to? That had once again begun to make overtures to same group (what group?), how were they abandoned when everything failed?

What lead you to say that Igbo people recognise Kanu as their leader?

Can you see how confused and inaccurate your post is. It is better not to post when you lack the knowledge on a topic to do so.
GavelSlam:

Oh Kanu is the wisest man in Igboland. All other people found there are intellectually malnourished?

So it took 40 years for the Igbo people to recognise their true hero, on the say so of a man who wasn't even born when events took place.

This shows the true colour of the people, who once again have begun to make overtures to the same groups they led to war and abandoned when everything failed.

OK Kwantinue.

As an Igbo man it is my view that this thread was created with the intention to make a tribalistic attack on the Igbo people.

Ojukwu and his lieutenants during the Biafran war are the unshakable heroes of Igboland.

However very few Igbos know about Effiong and other lieutenants, because during the war they was no newspapers article, tv and radio available to the Igbo masses where they can learn about these lieutenants. Only Ojukwu was known by the masses.

Effiong came to the limelight just very briefly to sign the surrender of Biafra, but even then Igbos did not know of him or have access to news media.

It is right that all Ojukwu lieutenants of the war should be recognised and honoured.

That Igbo war heroes are not recognised is a failure of the entire Nigerian nation to show political maturity to recognise and honour all people that played a role in our history including break away Biafra.

Ojukwu says Nigeria should remain one, today Igbos are flourishing and prospering in Nigeria under its present structure.

Current IPOB and Biafra agitation are therefore certainly not in Igbos interest .
It is my belief that there are external enemies of the Nigerian nation funding the agitation in the name of the Igbo people.

Igbo people have never given support to Kanu or IPOB, forget the apparent large crowds we see around Kanu, that does not equate to Igbo support.

Crowds of any size can be bought. Have you hired crowd of 5000 march through narrow streets in densely populated areas and they look like 50,000; Add photoshop, you can make the 5000 appear like 500,000.

I am a DANite who believes if one Nigeria is not working, let us fix it, not break it.

The Danite movement is founded by an Igbo man and many Igbos are active in spreading our message.
