i currently have 2 bingos in my compound. They harass and threaten the life out of any intruder any hour of the day. My dogs are really harsh.
My neighbor has an Asiatian. It hardly barks. It plays with almost every child in the neighbourhood.

Not all foreign dogs are harsh. Not all local breeds are docile. It all depends on how you trained them.

Ekuke no dey miss road, even after going on a long tour, always finds its way back home.

I have about 7 of them in my compound...not exaggerating

Abeg if gsd mate ekuke.....wetin the puppy go be?

I can never imagine keeping a foreign dog in my village compound.

Only Ekuke's can adjust to such environment.

I think this post Just made my day, make God bless the OP. Really educative, homourous and fact filled, this is the kind of post I do love to read and see in NL front burner. The truth is that naija no dey ever value her own, Even if I get money pass dangote I go get many local breeds for ma house starting from guava, to pawpaw, to watermelon, to citrus plants, to fowl, to turkey, to goat, to pigs down to our local ekuke. Cause the are really tasty and nutritious and are usually more resistance to diseases and have less chemical contents in them, thereby reducing the risk of cancer and it irks.
It high time we Africans started loving ourselves and our products, currently the Asians are known to last longer than the average man because the consume many natural food be it fruits or meat. The take enough natural supplements which boost body immunity such like supplements gotten from ginger, garlic etc. The prefer fresh food to processed food, the only go for the latter if that's the only choice, but down here we want b like oyinbo, forgetting say oyinbo dey eat process food because there whether no favor all year freshness for food. That why you hear of an Indian man giving birth to children at 90+, Japanese woman dies at 122 and so many other stories like that, but here in naija at 80 most men and women aren't active anymore both physically and sexually, because Chemical Don chop there body finish. My grand mum died at 79, but even at that age she still goes to farm, take care of her aged sick husband who died at over 100 and also engaged herself with other house chores and community activities. But today I dey notice say at 50-60 years some people don weak, the are already claiming papa and mama, why because of to much chemical in there body system.
Africa is too blessed by God, until we begin to realize that, we will keep being under the curse of low self esteem. Imagine the moringa plant which scientist made many findings about and even encouraged us to take as regular as possible, how many dey take am. But if to say na outside Dem dey follow dey ship am, and we dey buy am with dollars na so people for the rush am. Let start loving and promoting ourselves, because only then will dey rest of the world value and appreciate us.

Lol....dat one na rascal, engine oil keh. ut wht I knw is that these dogs have different personalities like humans. The one we have now is warm and of normal temper, and doesn't even complain when our pigeons share his food with him. He alerts us of intruders, and is sensitive. But we had a mad one before that shouts like crazy, and loves food a lot. The rascal even dey steal chicken eggs den till my dad beat am silly. Also, we tried rearing one sometime ago; this one destroys slippers like yours and always look miserable and unhappy even as a young dog. In my friend's house, the one wey dem get there na complete mumu with its tallness; na only sluggishness plus stretching like a lazy worker that one sabi; the doggo jus dey look like lucozade. They really do have different personalities.

seriously, sometimes in the 90's , our landlady used to have one. That dog really terrorized me and it was very alert. If you train them to what you want them to be, you'll be astonished.

At all...them nor dey miss road. Na so one time a way back then...our ekuke bite one of our stubborn neighbor kid wey dey always look for troubles for our compound. After momsy spent so much on the kid's treatment...Na she vex use car carry Buddy (the dog) go sell to one calabar man wey get pepper joint a mile away for another town....that day eh...momsy got the shock of her life when she return to see the ekuke wey she go sell with us for parlour dey watch film...beside momsy nor tell us say she dey go sell the dog oh cuz she know say we nor go agree. We all surprised when momsy shout Jesus!..after seeing d ekuke sleeping under uncle leg for parlour while watching film...Na momsy come yarn say she been go sell the dog cuz she nor want dog bite wahala again...that day eh momsy come change her mind leave the dog with us...then go return the money to the calabar man wey she see for road the find the dog.. The dog spent 12yrs with us before she died.. Omo that day eh...I cried like there is not tmrw cuz that ekuke pains me!..was always part of the family.
