What shocks me most especially here in Nigeria is the food, I have a lot of Yoruba friends, I school in the West but I've not been able to taste their soup with little or no oil, the leaf types etc. Even at the cafeteria in school, I manage to eat their beans(with stew). I don't hate it but I've not tried it.

The North where I was born and raised, I still find their fertility rate very unacceptable, and some aspects of their food.

Although this don't shock me anymore.
Reason for all these is because hatred is in the DNA of your tribe

Hello, I totally disagree with you. Such is not the case everywhere, you should have said that is what you saw. Are you aware that leapers are kind of ostracized in the north? therefore, it is very wrong/incorrect of you to claim with certainty that groundnut AKA kulikuli which happens to be a well accepted snack by the northerners is produced by the same set of people the separate themselves from. Thanks

We can all see the hateful and bigotry tribe on this thread. The Op ask of cultural shock anyone has witnessed, and the Igbos deem it fit to throw jabs on Yorubas Amala and Ewedu like they used too. Meanwhile, there are many disgusting foods they eat like Abacha, Okpa, oha (which is purely tree leaves) and Nsala (looks like shit) but you will never hear Yoruba make derogatory comments about their shitty foods. And if I start to list out the cultural shocks from that tribe many people will be shocked to their bone marrows

I'm not igbo but seriously it's not that deep! They simply felt the food was disgusting, it's too bad you are offended about that.

Achimotan that guy is a very well know Ghana hater. He is always spewing stuff from his ass not to mention that fake makydebbie girl pretending to be from Ghana.

Just leave them with their ignorance and backwards thinking. Let them believe whatever they want to believe and honestly I doubt anything you say or any real Ghanaian says on this forum won't be taking seriously.

Don't have any time or energy for their nonsense anymore hence most of us have left this forum.

I mean everyone knows that food and drinks is one of the important aspects of the wedding and to be frank one of the main reasons people attend the function. So to say we don't serve any food is really laughable.

Am not even going to waste my time posting videos and pictures. Just save yourself the energy and stress and leave them to believe whatever the FCK they want.

Hope you good smiley wink

Am Good wink Glad to see you again.

The funny thing was the emphatic statement by him.WTF
These days the engagement which is supposed to be a minor event, you have food even being served

THE IBO HEREDITARY SYSTEM

what is the worth of a woman : in ibo tradition, an unmarried woman has no right in her fathers property. not even a say.

even when married and she never give birth to a male child she will not be allowed to inherit her husband property.

the female gender is seen as an object of satisfaction and if she doesn't meet up she is thrown out with contempt.

at their marriage the female gender is seen as a commodity that need to be sold her value tally with the things that the family had spent on her. if she had a degree education her bride price is of higher value. than those without education.

in the Ibo culture when a man cheat it is easily overlooked. but the case of a woman will invoke the curse of god and eternal damnation.

I see this things first hand during my service in the eastern part of the country.

I am of the feeling that the Ibo tribe need reorientation on civil ways of taking care of the child and not to see her as just an object because it is affecting the self-steem of an average ibo lady.
It is not the igbo that I'm from dat u r talking about

I served in Effurun, Warri in Delta state.

Growing up, people that mostly suck something from nylon are either children (those in nursery and primary school).

One day I went to my school staff room to collect a textbook from one of the subject head teachers only to see her sucking beans from nylon/waterproof in the staff room and all the teachers didn't look at her differently.

I shock no be small shocked shocked, it was more like disgusting to be precise but I comport myself last last. undecided

I later noticed most of the teachers do that.

Talk of culture shock

**Disclaimer: I am not implying that all Warri and Delta people suck their food from nylon before you people start coming my head.
That has nothing to do with culture. It is more or less about personality, background or environment. You too have said it.

Mine wasn't so shocking. It just kinda threw me.

I noticed that most of my Igbo friends don't answer with Yes Sir/Ma, Yes, Ma or Sir when called by their daddies or mommies or elders...they just simply call them right back. Eg:

Father calls daughter: Cynthia!

Daughter answers : Daaddy!

LOL...I didn't quite get it until I realized it was passable grin.
Lmao...This one is true ooo

I always do this one.

I also served in a village in the north (they are neither Hausas nor Fulanis) and I saw several things that shocked me.

1. Women drink more than the men.
2. The children, some as young as 7, attend night parties like crazy.
3. Female children suddenly reappearing and appearing. (they often travel to their boyfriend's place).
4. SS 3 students that cannot spell their names. Many can't even speak English, only Hausa and their local dialect.
5. Young children getting married. A 14/15 year old Hausa girl in JSS 1 got married. Also, another girl in the communaty got married and pregnant. She was as young as 12.
6. Any man that impregnates a woman automatically marries the woman.

There're a lot but these are few. I was so shocked to the extent that everything stopped surprising me.

Lastly, the children got pregnant anyhow.

Did u serve in TARABA?? ?

I SAW STRANGE BUT TRUE

Where students beg u to bang them
Where d Muslim students use charm freely

Where they do burial on Monday morning (first day of the week)

Clubbing as early as 7yrs. Including smoking

Kunu is the best dey can offer during party

Wedding was done in the night and burial in the morning which students won't come to school

Where English teacher Teach student with Hausa

Mehn I don't pray to go to that state in my life again

I did my NYSC in an interior village in Ondo state called Ipele-Owo I was depressed and those were the saddest moments of my life, students wearing bathroom slippers to school. The poverty in that land was something else, I gave all my allowance to my students most of whom came to school hungry and tattered, there was no phone network no good water no fine girls around, I enjoyed the palm wine only from my taper
Where are you from?
