It's only three weddings I've attended and I no get food to chop. embarassed Maybe others will be different sha.
So you no fit attend my court wedding? sad cry
you attend wedding in Ghana and there isn't food for you? I doubt it .......

weeding in Ghana is much celebrated like that of Yoruba or Igbo people... there is aso ebi.....where people wear the same attire.... pastries are served in the church for the Christian while koko and kose are served in the house for the Muslims at early in the morning....

while in the reception hall... food are served... sometimes you are made to line up for the food..... it is a way to ensure every visitor is served and visitor also contribute a little cash or gift to the pulse of the event.... once you collect the food ,you drop some cash......

I will advise you to visit zongo community during any weeding occasion.... it is always a blast....

I do not see much difference between Ghanian weeding and her Nigeria counterpart....... apart from that aspect of lining up for food which make sense to me.....

I served in Kaduna but it was in a Christian village.

My students don't smoke though some take tramadol. I also faced that love letter ish and there's the eyeing. The girls would just keep giving you eyes.

Then, for parties, they use kunu and moi moi.

They also believe in charms too even though I've never seen one use charm.

I believe you served in a village/town of one of Nigeria's minority tribes.
A student wrote me a love letter, but before she did that, her father happens to a rich man, so she sells kulikuli and always eager to learn so out of a plain heart I decided to help, she would give me kuliluli without collecting my money, I never knew her game until she gave me a love letter,

Honestly that girl too fine but m not ready to die because we heard that they usually lace their daughter or bethrothed with charm, unfortunately she was married of at age 14 after junior weac

The female students usually leave d first 2 button so u can see their flat moi moi n some were endowed

They don't eat pepper and as a result most of them had ulcer

She says she has attended 3 weddings and yet supports that RMU student who made that s.tupid claim 100%. Fallacy of the highest order

I can't even count the number of weddings of family and friends that I have attended that food(plenty of it)
was served

I guess you're a Ghanaian too. Like I said it's three weddings and it was for a church member. The kind of owambe they have in Nigeria is not like Ghana's. Even when my brother got married in Nigeria, my family members were complaining that the refreshments were too much and there we joked about it. The last wedding I attended even tried, they shared chicken and chips. You need to see the look on my face and my sisters when they shared meatpie for us in the first wedding we attended.

A Modern Culture

On culture shock and Ghana. Some few years ago i visited Ghana during my vacation. Being my first visit i asked my hotel to arrange a cab to take me round Accra. I got talking with the taxicab driver. The news of oil being newly discovered in Ghana was in the air then and it was already affecting their economy as fuel prices were already rising.

At one point, the guy took me to their GRA and was pointing to where the government officials live. And then he added "you see corruption has become a big problem now in Ghana especially among govt officials. He said can you imagine that some ministers now have up to 2 cars, some even V8 and now fill their fuel tanks to the brim. The corruption is too much now." He bitterly complained. I was like is this one corruption? Although i was nodding my head in agreement, but in my mind i was saying 'is this guy joking or what?' Is this corruption? Come to Nigeria grin grin cheesy Here in Nigeria you can even capture corruption with your camera grin grin grin
One V8 jeep, you say corruption. What will you say when your airport lacks enough space to pack fleets of private jets cheesy cheesy grin

On a lighter note i was really shocked. I cant forget the experience. Like someone had mentioned earlier, Nigeria is a great nation compared to its neighbouring countries.

When i left Ghana and flew to Liberia, the cab that took me from the airport likely has never travelled outside Liberia before. On getting to Monrovia, unknown to me that we were already in Monrovia he said this is the road to our vice-president house. I saw a bungalow with broken bottles strewn on top of the fence. I asked where their tall buildings are, and he pointed to one 2-storey building. I was like is this guy joking or what! And this was even before the ebola virus wahala. And then pointing to one upstair, he whispered to my ears 'this hotel is owned by one govt official - complaining, he said you see corruption?" grin cheesy grin
When i got to my hotel, i saw i have many many things to think about and many many more to be greatful for. We do not appreciate what we have until we lose it. Nigeria is and can be a great nation.
Guy ...I just de laff anyhow dis nite ooo

Nigeria which way na cheesy

We can all see the hateful and bigotry tribe on this thread. The Op ask of cultural shock anyone has witnessed, and the Igbos deem it fit to throw jabs on Yorubas Amala and Ewedu like they used too. Meanwhile, there are many disgusting foods they eat like Abacha, Okpa, oha (which is purely tree leaves) and Nsala (looks like shit) but you will never hear Yoruba make derogatory comments about their shitty foods. And if I start to list out the cultural shocks from that tribe many people will be shocked to their bone marrows
..... I'm not one of those people who insult other tribes......we are all different and so have different cultures, likes and stuff like that...as an igbo boy I don't eat a particular soup(name withheld) because I wasn't trained with it.....my mother loves ewedu and amala lik but I detest it....its just all about diversity...and I don't see anything wrong with those food you listed even though I spent my first seventeen years with Yorubas

The Yorubas! When I was younger, I read that the yorubas are the most educated and enlightened tribe. Having spent a considerable time in the west ( Ibadan, Ogbomosho, Saki, Oyo town, Ife, Ore, Oshogbo, Akure, Ifaki and Iwo), I can boldly state that those days of being the most educated tribe are long gone.
same here. i served in ogun.

I surely didn't say there is anything wrong with those foods. Trust me, out of those foods I mentioned, the only one I haven't had is Nsala, and if you bring it for me today, I will eat it without hesitation and add it to the very long list of foods that had been consumed by hilroy. When it comes to food, I'm super open-minded. I'm not trying to blow my horn, but I have eaten delicacy from over 30 countries. One thing I know is that foods come in different form, taste, color and appearance. However, the fact remains that whatever a race, tribe, clan or group decide to eat, no one has the right to speak ill of it.
