We can all see the hateful and bigotry tribe on this thread. The Op ask of cultural shock anyone has witnessed, and the Igbos deem it fit to throw jabs on Yorubas Amala and Ewedu like they used too. Meanwhile, there are many disgusting foods they eat like Abacha, Okpa, oha (which is purely tree leaves) and Nsala (looks like shit) but you will never hear Yoruba make derogatory comments about their shitty foods. And if I start to list out the cultural shocks from that tribe many people will be shocked to their bone marrows
God will bless u

I feel you on this bro. You forgot to add gbegiri.

THE IBO HEREDITARY SYSTEM

what is the worth of a woman : in ibo tradition, an unmarried woman has no right in her fathers property. not even a say.

even when married and she never give birth to a male child she will not be allowed to inherit her husband property.

the female gender is seen as an object of satisfaction and if she doesn't meet up she is thrown out with contempt.

at their marriage the female gender is seen as a commodity that need to be sold her value tally with the things that the family had spent on her. if she had a degree education her bride price is of higher value. than those without education.

in the Ibo culture when a man cheat it is easily overlooked. but the case of a woman will invoke the curse of god and eternal damnation.

I see this things first hand during my service in the eastern part of the country.

I am of the feeling that the Ibo tribe need reorientation on civil ways of taking care of the child and not to see her as just an object because it is affecting the self-steem of an average ibo lady.
Same thing I told my igbo friend. Anytime I look at the girl,,I always pity her. They really need to stop that property of a thing, it makes the girl child look worthless.

They don't serve food in Ghanaian weddings.

Every Nigerian knows how weddings are done in Nigeria with all the owambe and everything. Our west African neighbours are totally different. The first Ghanaian wedding i went to was a very big shock to me. The venue was like 3 hours from school so I went hungry. I thought it's like Nigerian weddings where during the reception you can eat till your hearts content.

Well after all the church buohaha. We were just served 2 buns one coke and one tiny chicken. I thought that was an appetiser and the main course is coming. Only for people to start going and I was told that was the end of it. I was shocked to the bone. After that before I go to any Ghanaian wedding I make sure to stuff up my tummy.

That country is very weird.
You need to see the way I bursted into laughter cheesy

I also served in a village in the north (they are neither Hausas nor Fulanis) and I saw several things that shocked me.

1. Women drink more than the men.
2. The children, some as young as 7, attend night parties like crazy.
3. Female children suddenly reappearing and appearing. (they often travel to their boyfriend's place).
4. SS 3 students that cannot spell their names. Many can't even speak English, only Hausa and their local dialect.
5. Young children getting married. A 14/15 year old Hausa girl in JSS 1 got married. Also, another girl in the community got married and pregnant. She was as young as 12.
6. Any man that impregnates a woman automatically marries the woman.

There're a lot but these are few. I was so shocked to the extent that everything stopped surprising me.

Lastly, the children got pregnant anyhow.
But what's the implication if an outsider impregnates their girls.?

The Yorubas! When I was younger, I read that the yorubas are the most educated and enlightened tribe. Having spent a considerable time in the west ( Ibadan, Ogbomosho, Saki, Oyo town, Ife, Ore, Oshogbo, Akure, Ifaki and Iwo), I can boldly state that those days of being the most educated tribe are long gone.
Guy because you've been to Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ondo states made you draw such conclusion

I surely didn't say there is anything wrong with those foods. Trust me, out of those foods I mentioned, the only one I haven't had is Nsala, and if you bring it for me today, I will eat it without hesitation and add it to the very long list of foods that had been consumed by hilroy. When it comes to food, I'm super open-minded. I'm not trying to blow my horn, but I have eaten delicacy from over 30 countries. One thing I know is that foods come in different form, taste, color and appearance. However, the fact remains that whatever a race, tribe, clan or group decide to eat, no one has the right to speak ill of it.

Culture shock is described as the feelings one experiences after leaving their familiar, home culture to live in another cultural or social environment.
I served in one of the northern states and was shocked the day I witnessed a young man canned on his bare back to determine if he is ready for marriage or not.
Anyway, I eventually appreciated that cultural practice as I know that every tribe is unique in its own way.
Nairalanders, what is the biggest culture shock you have had?
My biggest shock is that we are one Nigeria shocked

The first four tribalistic comments on this thread are from igbos. Now you people will be crying when we call you children of hate. What's wrong with your generation, really? why are you so pained? Have you thought about the fact that you aren't supposed to like our food? It's you displaced persons that are attaching yourselves to us. Be careful though. Nobody is complaining about your watery faeces soup.

Don't mind the number of likes your comment garnered. Goes to show the number of daft people, like you, on here. Children of HATE

It's not weird. Only Yorubas feed you to the moon in weddings. Igbos serve fried roaches with palmoil and if you are lucky to get a bowl of their watery faeces soup, then you must be close to the bride's family.

Its assumed the woman would marry and wouldn't be need any property as her man will provide properties to ensure suitable living,it doesn't really happen everywhere like in afikpo the women are entitled to their parents properties....so,say what you know.

I see elements of hypocrisy in some of your posts.
U initially condemned those who think that some Yorubas foods look wierd to them which i believe is only their opinion drawn out of personal experiences but u later did worst by asking if one of those tribes is really a tribe in the real sense..

Don't be silly. You should look up the meaning of hypocrisy. My comment was to point out the backwardness of a certain tribe @what they have a penchant for. If you weren't an hypocrite yourself, you'll deal with the root cause of this convo not quote me.

The hypocrisy in you smells like rat poo. You say it's their opinion. Pls, what kind of opinion is that?

I reiterate, you aren't supposed to like any food outside your tribe. If you do, it's a plus. That's why I marvel at the level of stupidity displayed by ipobians at times.

Went on a one week trip to Singapore.
In my connecting flight I was the only black person on the fully booked 767 and I recall the ticket attendant kept looking at me like say I miss road when I wanted to board.

Despite being a "global" city the only other black person I saw was on a movie set being shot in the street.
You can't chew gum in public and could get arrested and charged a fine for that. Overall, it is a beautiful and super clean place.
I cancelled my proposed trip to Bali an even more obscure destination.

Still love travelling, guess I just won't be doing that alone.
Let me go with you since you dont want to go alone anymore. Biko
