Dang, this place is so serious and ''focused'' grin grin Not a bad thing of course, but I think we should have a chill zone where you can kick back, relax and talk about how your day went at work.

Seriously, how many workers here have people they return home to at the end of the day that sincerely ask ''how was work today''?

So in this zone, you can come in, tell us your career field, your job designation if you like (not compulsory), and then you share how work went.

How did your boss totally piss you off? What blunder did you make? What great feat did you accomplish? What project are you working on and how is it going? What things hinder your progress in your field/at your office? Customer pressure (Bankers, Telecomm peeps, etc) ? Funny events that took place at the office?

Come here and share all. And let others benefit from your experiences, and offer you some good advice too. You never know, you just might get that idea you've been searching for in here. . .and definitely you will be able to de-stress here grin grin If your story is one you would rather start an independent thread on, even better.

This could work if every worker makes some sensible contribution. . .I can't make it fly by myself grin grin. So let's share.

*Hols are coming up yeah, but work will still go on*

Let's recreate this thread from 9 years ago.

..
So..I work in one of the Investment banks in Nigeria, and most of my work hours is spent trying to convince Mr. A on an investment or pitch a new deal from Mr. B to Mr. C, trying to maximize returns on Mr. D investments, execute transactions (Stocks, Bonds, OTC), speaking with PFAs/Institutions (Local & Foreign) to see if they wanna deal and watching the numbers in the market go up and down.

Work Yesterday

Negotiated a deal with another investment firm, one of my clients was selling a sizeable quantity of a stock and the market was not enough, so we agreed on a price and it went flawlessly. Also, discussed with the MD of a bank in Ghana, he asked that his portfolio be reconstructed as he wanna go short on some positions (First thing Monday morning).

Visited the CEO of a Logistics firm, we discussed, reviewed and i await further instructions.

Spoke with a few clients on how they can take up their Union Bank rights issue (I wonder why people would do this though but they have their reasons for taking it up)

Watched the market, made a few calls, and saw the last minute trades (Price-Changing Trades, we call them)

Did weekly reports for my subsidiary, disturbed those pretty ladies in Research and viola, TGIF!...

I came weekly to Nairaland to check for update on the original "welcome to my office" thread. I was an undergraduate back then.

After donkey years I now have my own office, and it's fun. Especially when people call you boss for no reason cheesy.

Monday is almost here wink

It's a nice idea.

I work in a Law Firm as the Secretary/Paralegal/Administrative Assistant. So far so good, it's been a nice experience having both clients and employers edging me to go back to school and study Law which was my first choice because I do thrill them from time to time with my little knowledge.

Last week ended well. I listed the Firm on Google Business and it was successful. My boss was so happy when he saw his business on Google Map & Google Search. The gesture was my own way of adding value to the Firm.

I'm an Accountant, I'm in between jobs.

I try to do my work with a lot of detail and patience, to avoid repetition. I always endeavour to leave a mark, just as I'm currently clearing a mess of 8months. I concluded January backlog of fixed asset management - 25/09/2017. I only took up this role in September, as you may wonder why January is just being sorted. Someone wasn't doing their job.

My boss did finishing touches on the Company's 2018 draft budget I collated and prepared...

By the side, I partner with some professional colleagues to provide book keeping, accounting and tax compliance services for small/medium sized businesses and start ups.

I work in the funds transfer department of a Nigerian bank. Some very routine and boring stuff I hope I get to move to a more interesting department soon.

I love the fact that I don't get to use my salary for anything personal as the big men get to "drop" when they come for transactions grin

I hate the fact that I have to work with a control officer who is always a pain in the butt every other day sad angry

I love the fact that I work in a city where I can still get home latest 7pm despite working in a bank.

Should I say welcome or goodbye to my office as I hope to leave this bank for another soon

Today is Sunday and I'm not really at the office but I've been working on a report since yesterday. The deadline (I'm so sure I heard a deadline, but my team members insist there was no such deadline) is tomorrow morning. sad

I'm so pissed cos I hate looking like the 'stuck-up' person. But hey, its our first 'deadline' and the other guys are already on a mission to extend. I'm like " why can't you simply keep up to a simple deadline?"

Now its two ways:
(a) I inisist on submitting tomorrow and then brand myself as the Judas of a new team.
(b) I join the bandwagon and we all submit late (even though they insist there was no deadline)

This is what always frustrates me about working on group projects. Some people would just behave like its their calling to drag the group back. The lady ginjaring the delay said she was ill over weekend, making it seem even more sinister to 'snitch' on her (I wonder of the term 'snitch' even enters the context sef). Politician that she is, she first went to convince the guy who started writing his report earlier in the week and the guy comes on the group to announce "We are not submitting tomorrow!" I'm like: for real? What audacity!

Aaarrrrrghhhhhhh! I feel like hitting something!
That's how we are going to look bad to cover up Someone.

Its not like I'm even done with my own report o. But believe me if not for this their brouhaha, my report would have been on madam's table first thing tomorrow morning.

How do u guys cope with the team spirit in these kinda situations biko?

Coping with team spirit in a situation just like yours requires a lot of patience and you telling yourself to be calm while the others get their act together.

You can find out why others are not ready with theirs and assist if you can. Get yours ready so when "yawa gaz", you turn in yours if necessary.

How come you are the only one that heard deadline?

Before you submit, they should be well aware that you are submitting and from your comment, it shows you are going to submit whether there is a deadline or not.

For next time or next assignment, stick to the team. Deadline or Not.

Lol not so at all. The guys called yesterday, truth is they all heard the deadline. They just wanted to support the babe.

Not at all na.

I'm not submitting today but it doesn't mean I have to like of though. For real, this one is a skill I think I need to work on and I'm trying. I finished the report yesterday night and I've printed cos I really can not afford to bring that load into the new week. But I'm not submitting smiley #stickingWithTheTeam cheesy

Thanks dear. Why they are not ready - they feel its 'just a report' no need to stress it so any attempt to assist that mentality would be seen as the same 'stuck-up' mentality I'm trying to avoid.

So I'm at the office and I've " gba calm" de watch. We devised excuse to give madam. Lol only for madam to be calling us one by one to ask for the report grin

We all stuck to the story and fortunately madam wasn't upset. She actually gave us the rest of the week to ensure all reports are submitted.

That's pretty relaxing to know.

I guess they knew the outcome that's why they we're not perturbed by their actions.

My office was not busy (as always). Had fewer cold calls and emails to send out.

It's been a while I heard from "the Boss" so I thought I'd call him to ask about my requested contacts and follow-ups. [I work in Sales]. He has only to respond or react to my emails and conversation with potential customers.

I did call and apparently, "The Boss" is out of the country. I could tell from his voice that he wasn't himself. I however tried to keep the conversation short and not push him anymore than I intended to.

I ended the call and it hit me. My boss lives in Texas.....same Texas that had the recent hurricane/flooding disaster. I ran to Google and voila, my fears were confirmed...."The Boss" area in TX was affected heavily.

Lesson: while we pursue deliverables and results, let's learn to look out for one another. Subordinate or Superior.
