Thank you Canadianfly. I think I will settle for Shaw then. Saw a Shaw cable in the apartment but I think it's for cable TV. Will check their site to see their packages. Thank you.

It just occurred to me, another tip since you plan on going with Shaw, check malls in St. James, Polo Park or Portage Place to see if you'll see their stands. They usually run promos at any given time inside malls or local fairs. The good thing is if you sign up at those stands, you can get as much as 75% of your bill for the first 6 months, and/or free installation service. So don't just go to their website and sign up....check the malls or even Unis to see if they have any stands any where inviting people to sign up.

@oohunt please land before your medicals expires. Otherwise your copr would become invalid. You would not have the option of repeating your medicals. That option only applied to the fsw pre-express entry era when often times applications were still being processed while medicals expired.

Congrats freeradical

If you read through this thread you'll get pointers for your questions. Also visit impish's blog mycanadianfling.com. A lot of people have shared their ON landing experience.

Thank you Canadianfly, I've actually followed the thread right from the beginning, maybe missed or skipped some few posts. Some were fortunate to have people assist in some background work before landing.
BTW, the blog is great. No more anxiety! lol

This is why unless you have transferable skills or you're high up within a oil company, make your money while planning your exit. While I've taken a massive pay cut since joining the federal government, such news doesn't concern me anymore. I'm even more glad I made the jump now. I wish people in the industry luck.
i think the liberal gov is anti-carbon, and I see them winning the 2019 election again. It's going to be one long ride for the Crude Oil industry in Canada.

I am not sure what you meant by "shaw cable", but the same outlet usually works for both the internet and the cable tv (atleast in Alberta).

Guys, any advice on a phone plan/network provider that would work in both Ontario and Alberta? I need it for just a one month period. Thanks.
If you are going to be within city limits (i.e big cities) in both provinces, stick with freedom mobile or chatr. Check their coverage map at:

Good job guys, I need a lil clarification on how to handle tax issues and credit rating as i don't intend to jump into the labor market soon, I have my business set up in 9ja and it can run well in my absence, i intend to live off it for a while by using my 9ja visa card. Pls anyone knows if one can stay on that route for some time and don't run into problems with sorting out income tax and credit rating issues, Thanks in advance

There is a good chance you would pay tax if declared, but if Canada has a tax treaty with Nigeria, then you might not need to pay tax on your foreign income. Google and read up on form T2125. Better still, you might want to wait for more contribution from our business/accounting oriented peeps on here or ring up a tax consultant.

As per the credit rating, your business in naija and your credit rating are unrelated. You simply build your credit by paying your bills promptly. Records of payments or defaults are reported to credit reporting agencies, and any lender can pull your details from the agencies when you apply for credit from the lender.

Thanks Salford1, will google and read up. I intend to pay for my mortgage and credit card from 9ja income, wanted to get more details on that. Thanks though.

Well, you would have to explain your source of income each time you bring funds into the country. Also you'll pay tax on your declared foreign income. I think that's about 25% now. Nigeria does have a tax treaty with Canada http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/webarchives/20071126043921/http://www.fin.gc.ca/news99/data/99-115_1e.html . A tax consultant is best to discuss and clarify issues with income tax. As per mortgage, your down payment would be a minimum of 35%.

Thank a bunch vcole, will most def consult a tax consultant. Already have a realtor negotiating for 20% for the mortgage. I hope I won't be charged that 25% income tax on the initial funds I'll come in with as that won't be fair on us. That will be some higher amount if anyone is coming with large sum.

Tips needed here!!!

I plan landing in Ontario first week of December before my visa expires. I'm single with no family or friend there. I guess being single makes settling easy, but having no one to guide you through some certain things sets one for a bit rougher patch. I'd like to read here, experience of those who were in similar situation
with me, how to sort out cheap accommodation without getting stranded (that's my main issue and I've done a lot of internet surfing on that).
The whole landing ish is making me depressed but I know it's just a phase. I want to book my flight ticket this week.

Pls, if you have any advice, don't ignore my message. Thank you

No. Initial fund should be tax free. You get to pay on subsequent ones.

For Internet most people in Winny use either MTS or Shaw. Telus can be pricey. I never actually been to anyone's house that used Telus for Internet. Anyway they have a store in Portage place, upstairs. You can always go there and ask them what they can offer you.

I will advise that you thread softly on this work permit thing. A few people have had their fingers burnt and money down the drain cos of this. If you read this thread from the beginning you will see response to your inquiry. It is almost impossible to get a work permit from Nigeria.

Thanks for ur reply, I'm actually asking dis to safe a friend's ass. He said one fucking agent told him dat he can help him process a direct employment visa for him to work in a company @ Canada for 750k. Na hin I decide to enquire here on his behalf

Hi all. Please can anyone give reviews about Turkish airlines? I know a lot of people have been talking about air maroc and Egypt air, but has anyone flown Turkish airlines? What was the experience like? I'd really appreciate a review.

Blackbuddy:

On a random basis, they may contact the employers of selected applicants for verification of employment details. NDVO does physically verification but so far, AVO usually calls or sends email to the concerned HR where they have need for such verification. AVo goes af far as to sometimes ask applicants to obtain and send the business registration documents of their employer and also take pictures of their office, the interior and exterior environments and even send samples of their work for review. This happened with a lady who applied via FSW 2014. She was a contract staff with Chevron, Lekki and had to provide the above. I had to advise her to take the pictures of her office during their TGIF party to avoid the suspicion of her colleagues and Chevron security department. She was successful with her application.

Bro I want to ask whether it's compulsory to send my personal account statement?? Is it necessary

If your funds are in your personal account, you'll need to send the account statement as proof. That is what is referred to as POF, Proof of Funds.
