LagosismyHome ... do you have an idea of how many schools will still be available for the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship (for Fall 2019)?

I appreciate your response

TheGreat342:
Bros, fill in your dependents in your form(s) and a question will be asked if you want them to accompany you to the US. Just tick 'NO'. Filling your dependents information will be easier if you want them to join you later. All the best bros. Please, be sincere when filling the form(s) so as not to jeopardize chance of your family coming to join you in the US.

I don't want to sound like a pessimist here, but don't put too much hope on MCF Scholarship; the partner schools are pretty hard to get in with single digit admit rate. The people who are taken from Nigeria usually go through USAP at the Embassy here, while the Kenyans have some sort of partnership with Barclays bank and USAP also. the only set with >3 nigerians was the first set, since then very few Nigerians get in, and those who do have stellar creds( olympiad, 9A's WAEC, etc).

And what makes you think I can't be better or as good as what you mentioned?
Even if they are to pick just one person, I still stand a chance and I'm gonna go for it come next year.

no need for that one...although there a slight need but dont put all your eggs in that basket . They have some requirement such as you must do internship outside the US...no need for that

it easier for you to target the HBCU , there usually have good full ride scholarship so take a pen and go through this top 30 list . find out each school scholarship for freshman and their requirements and target the ones you that meet your needs

also not just HBCU there are other schools with full ride for first degree if you are academically sound. keep researching and you will see them

Why spending your precious time on this manipulated scholarship. Get yourself together, apply to reputable schools and dispatch your credible materials to them. Relate early with dept cord & profs and you'll likely 99% get a funding! (If available in your dept though)

You don't need to request further, the department in-charge (mostly international or graduate dept) will mail you afterwards. Just keep calm.
If you don't see anything in 3-4 days, please write the department and copy your dept coordinator.

Try visit google sometimes... it helps and saves time. If you can't find most things there, then press on more info.
Anyways:
1) First step after getting I-20 is to finalizing a university from the admits you have.
2) Pay SEVIS fee for the university you are applying.
3) You need to Book Visa Date to appear for Visa Interview with US Consulate.
4) Get Bank statements ready or Student loan for Education.
5) Prepare all the documents required for F1 Visa Interview.
6) Know about Frequently asked Questions in Student Visa Interview and Prepare for those Qs.

American Education system is no child's play at all. Abeg our naija university system na just high school jare. Here you would learn a lot about responsibilities from paying bills to building credit scores to working hard and I mean super hard just to stay afloat. Academic competition is even an understatement because if you think you are smart, well here is the best place to exhibit all you have got as you would see a lot of smarter students too, but trust me Nigerians no dey carry last. I get to understand that the categories of Nigerians here are different from the ones back home because here they work hard and end up very successful. Where do I even start from sef. I greet everyone ooo and success to the spring 18 applicants. I will try to stay in touch as much as I can.

Note: apart from the school stress though, America is a very good place to be, it's worth the whole efforts of GRE exams, TOEFL and admission process money we all spent plus the visa hurdle. It's really worth it. You get to have the platform to become whatever you want to be with no restrictions (if you can work hard). It's all about what skills you can offer and not by who you know or where you came from grin

Hi,
Whats the best credit card to get for someone without a credit score and whats the APR rate?
Thank you in advance!

Visa Transcript.

First I need to state it clearly that God + preparation is the key to F1.
I appreciate this nairaland family. Special thanks to the Boss lady Lagosismyhome - you are a blessing to this family, Imperioux & Bigfrancis - your careful and detailed advise to the upcoming is of great value, Twoods- your constructive criticism sha..but the hard truth has to be told, Walspring - Keep touching lives.
Congrats man, you nailed it, I hope mine turns out to be succ

My interview was on 12th-Oct.
So I got to the embassy by 5am & met them 'staple your docs & get coloured copy of your data page' people. Thankful for the knowledge I acquired here...
I was interviewed by a white guy on window 3.

Me: "Good morning".

Vo: ignores me

Me: (hia!!!ogbeni ogini kwa) "Good morning"

Vo: Looks up & smiles "Good morning my man"

Me: "How was your night?"

Vo: "Fine fine. Yours?"

Me: *Relaxed at this point "it was fine too thanks."

Vo: "I see you are going to school, which university?"

Me: "I am going to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for my Msc in Environmental Science. I will be specialising on Env Tech & Assessment."

Vo: "Tell me about your undergrad?"

Me: "I studied Civil Engineering @ FUTO.. I specialized on Env/Water Resources Eng. For my undergrad project, I carried out a dissertation on the Design of an integrated solid waste management system for futo community. It was at this point I became aware of the impacts of human activities on the environment so I made up my mind on a career in env remediation & protection. I also.." (vo cuts in)

Vo: "Tell me the main problem of solid waste in Nigeria?"

Me: "The major challenge with solid waste in Nigeria is improper disposal. Here, we practice open dumping and sometimes dispose of our waste in waterbodies hence polluting the environment, breeding rodents & pests, and disrupting biodiversity in the rivers & streams..."(I sha kept on blabbing)

Vo: (listening & nodding in concurrence).. "Tell me the factors you consider when designing an engineered sanitary landfill

Me: *whistles(haba!!! From where kwanu).. "Well I would consider location & topography. The landfill must be cited away from the settlement & at a place where seepage from the waste won't affect the underlying aquifer. (*Me I sha wanted to use jargon so it ll look like I know what I am saying very well).

Vo: "So why this school?"

Me: "I am inspired to study at siue because unlike my other admits, the department at siue provides and maintains long-term field sites for monitoring environmental remediation processes. These field sites would be of great benefit to me as my intended area of research focuses primarily on environmental remediation using phytoremediation technologies (*at this time the vo was shaking his head in disapproval then cuts in...)

Vo: "I can see you rehearsed for this.. ok tell me; what fiels sites are you talking about?"

Me: "Well you know that Illinois is nicknamed the Prairie state because of the abundance of grassy plains like the oak savannahs. Siue in collaboration with the us.epa gives the students and faculty access to these restored sites for research. (*He started smiling & somehow at this point I knew he was going to approve me.)

Vo: "Who is paying for this?"

Me: Told him

Vo: "What does he do?"(*begins to seperate my i-20 & sevis from my passport)

Me: Told him.

Vo: Picks white paper and says the magic words. It was really magical. People who have experienced this can confirm.

I advice you prepare well and don't cram your responses as it kinda irritates the impatient ones.

Please pray.

I hereby usher in more Spring 2018 approved visa transcripts.
Congrats man, you nailed the interview, I hope mine turns out to be successful as well, I still dey wait for admit sha

Hello house!!! Need your honest opinion on this situation about Murray State university.. I applied some sleep months ago to the school and I asked my school (undergraduate school) to send my transcript as usual to the School. they told me to ask my school to resend it again " There have been some discrepancies with some transcripts that's why I ask you to have the Transcripts sent again directly to me" which I applied also to my school to resend it. only to get this message from them saying!
I have told my undergraduate school and they said they will send them a massage and the truth is what is the best way to do it.. Should I forget it or what. please help me .i need some urgent response to this situation because I'm terrified. I called the school and she was confident that it's was a Fraudulent and Transcript!!! If you are a student still in status, go for discover student card. They would issue you a credit card and you can start building your credit score with it.
Note: you would need to upload your I-20, utility bill to verify your address, visa and passport page. That's all!

I forgot to add you would also need to upload your SSN card

I can mention over 7 Nairalanders who have benefited from this program, so why can't I?

Discover credit card is a good one to start with and unlike most other credit card companies, they will approve you for a regular (not secured aka glorified debit card) unsecured credit card native Americans get when they apply through referral. The earlier you start the better for you. Shoot me an email and I can assist you more.
