Grade A friendlies will test how strong we are in each department.

Icon4s:

It is not compulsory to make changes. If he feels he has not seen any player outside the squad that can better what he has already he can stick to what he has.

That midfield in my opinion is our strongest department.

Where we need to sort out now is our attacking department.

Argentina Vs Nigeria Friendly : KickOff Time Revealed, Rejected Ukraine & Israel
Published: October 26, 2017

Argentina Vs Nigeria Friendly : KickOff Time Revealed, Rejected Ukraine & IsraelThe Argentina Football Association have confirmed the kickoff time for the international friendly between the two-time world champions and Nigeria next month.

According to TYC Sports, Argentina will face the Super Eagles at the Arena of FC Krasnodar on Tuesday, November 14, starting from 1300 hours.

Assuming the time announced by the Argentina FA is the local time in Argentina, Super Eagles fans will be able to monitor proceedings as from 1700 hours Nigerian time.

Before accepting to play Nigeria, the Argentina Football Association had negotiated an international friendly with Ukraine and they also received a proposal from Israel.

Manager Jorge Sampaoli has called up 22 stars for the friendlies against Russia and Nigeria, including Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Paulo Dybala, Javier Mascherano and Angel Di María.

Eight players have been placed on a standby list : Guido Pizarro (Sevilla), Emanuel Mammana (Zenit), Giovanni Lo Celso (PSG), Emanuel Lanzini (West Ham), Gerónimo Rulli (Real Sociedad) and Joaquín Correa (Sevilla) and Emiliano Insúa (Stuttgart).

Nigeria have already qualified for next summer's showpiece with a game to spare, after four wins and a draw in Group B of the African qualifiers.

Real Madrid star stabs team-mate in the back by urging president Florentino Perez to move for Manchester United transfer target

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has been having chats with club president Florentino Perez that could affect Manchester United’s transfer plans in the near future.

The Croatia international is reportedly unhappy with the form of current Los Blancos striker Karim Benzema and has requested a raid on his old club Tottenham for Harry Kane, according to Don Balon.

The England striker has been in lethal form this season, netting 13 goals in 12 games for Spurs in all competitions to spark talk of a big move away from north London.

The Sun claim Manchester United could be ready to spend as much as £170million on Kane next summer, but Modric hopes Real can bring him in as an upgrade on Benzema.

The France international has just two goals in all competitions this term, with Diario Gol recently claiming he could even be offered to Tottenham as part of any deal for Kane.

Either way, things don’t look great for Benzema’s future at the Bernabeu right now, but United won’t be happy either if it means they miss out on the chance to land Kane for themselves.

That's for Algeria/Argentian ties, right? I can definitely bet on that.

Any performing player old or not has a chance to be called up at least once before the World cup.

Mickael2:

Since you do not want to answer let me go ahead.

Dele Alli is not a creative player in the sense that he almost never sprays a defence splitting pass. He isn't creative, his strong points are his quick passes, quick movements and ofcourse his eye for goal.

Yes I am placing Etebo and Alli on the same scale, no because they have the same quality but because they have thesame strengths. Etebo just like Dele is the kind of guy who is always the 'late comer to the party in the 18', he arrives late into the box or does his own thing when the other defenders think that there is nobody else to mark. HARDLY do you ever se Dele Alli joining the build-up, he moves in almost a straight line with Kane ready to pounce. I mean this is what Etebo does well, during the qualifiers for the Olympic he did it well, during the matches at the Olympics he did it well and scored. You do not need to be Messi to play like Messi, there is no comparison between Alli and Etebo but Etebo plays just the way Alli does and he can be effective if we play to his strength. This is one of the reasons why I hail Sia1, he realised this during the Olympics and used a target man who Etebo could easily move in line with and it worked did it not? Now when I say Rohr isn't the most tactical mind, you can see he wanted to adopt the same strategy in the match against SA but he used Iheanacho as the point man which failed. You can see the only time Rohr's plan worked, we had a shot which could have been a goal from? You guessed it, Etebo.

The problem is that you played football in the 80's when Maradona was the 10 and everyone wanted to be like him. Now the definition of a '10' has changed. I personally believe that your '10' is the midfield player charged with creativity. Mahrez is a winger but I'd grade him as Leicester's 10 still, Eriksen is who I would grade as Tottenham's 10 but he is not the AMF, the CMF. The definition of a 10 depends on the tactics, I can play Etebo as a '10'(your own style of '10') but he wouldn't be the actual '10'(that is my own definition). Etebo is the kind of guy who just strolls around, forget that he even exists, just let the ball rebound off him back to a player in the green jersey, he is not the kind of AMF that will be the focal point, no he is the kind of AMF that picks up the pieces just like Dele Alli and scores tons of goals, just look out for his late runs and we have goals. I am not generating these style of play from my head, this is what worked for Sia1 and it is what works for Poch at Tottenham too.

Etebo can play the '10' role perfectly, change Iheanacho with Ighalo in that game against SA and Etebo would have scored. Iheanacho was not dragging defenders out, he was dragging defenders in which is contrary to what a CF playing with Etebo should be doing. So can Etebo/Ndidi/Onazi work? Yes with a point man it can work wonders. Well I would suggest you replace Onazi with Ndidi as the DMF and put Mikel as the 'Eriksen' of the team sha grin
Then I will have Iheanacho start ahead of Etebo, he also plays with those styles that you attributed to Etebo, and considering his better conversion rates, he should get the nod to play behind Ighalo if the coach buys your idea.

World cup is fast approaching, hence there isn't much room for many experiments except there are many friendlies to do that. All these blames for players failures to perform on other players should stop. We can always point out to reasons why a player may have performed below expectations, players should know that they have make the most out of and justify any opportunity that comes their way irrespective of “unfavorable conditions." An example was how Suarez almost single-handedly won the league for Liverpool despite not being surrounded with world class players to make things easy for him. If Ezenwa didn't impress when opportunity came, we know what may happened to him, and despite how weak the them looked in the first 25mins against Cameroon he didn't allow that to affect him as he saved his team from dangerous ariel balls. The national team is different from club football, hence the coach may not have much opportunities to re-try a failed tactic. Mikel has so far impressed in that role. He did well against Algeria, Zambia and Cameroon, and if there is anyone that may challenge him for that spot, it should be Iwobi.

I haven't watched Aluko since his club got demoted to the Championship. but I gotta admit that he impressed me on a few occasions he was invited to SE camp. Not sure if I would make him my playmaker though. He strikes me as more of a worker than a creator.

Joel Obi is class, but he's rarely healthy.

I would rather have Sone Aluko in that role, I just feel brings more attacking threat. I also feel Joel Obi brings much needed quality into the midfield as well. We need Mikel but his lack of pace means he can only play AM.

But even you know that friendlies like against the Argies will test our mettle in ways that none of the sides we played during the qualifiers has done because of the quality of players Argentina has and Sampaoli the coach who would definitely want to consolidate on the win early this month after a cranky start. And then also European top teams will test us too in their own unique ways. Imagine a friendly with a German side full of quality and Loew, a coach who is reputed to have five or so tactical options for matches.

On the contrary I am very confident we will beat this Argentinian side based on the way our team is set up to play. The current Super Eagles have a weakness, LONG BALLS!!. Tanzania, South Africa and Zambia (second leg) adopted long ball tactics and we struggled. In the case of South Africa we lost. Any team that passes the ball from the back to the midfield on the attack we do well against because we have one of the most devastating counter attacks in world football. Argentina will come out and play and will be beaten.

I agree. Etebo is a utility player but I don't see him as a playmaker. I don't think he has the skills and the flair to spray passes and make dribble runs even in tight corners like Mikel or Iwobi.

If I were advising Rohr, I'd suggest that we move Iwobi to the middle and Etebo should attack from the left AND VicMo on the right. Simon Moses can come off the bench.

O pari

Good idea but but can Etebo dribble like the two Moses do? that's a vital ability a winger must possess. Simon Moses constant start for the team is due to his dribbling ability.

Truly if Martins comes things will spoil. Those guys will trigger something that will jeopardise team spirit. I don't want to hear Ma not to talk of Tins. Of the old lot only Enyeama should be recalled and even that is now looking unlikely cos it seems Enyeama has enemies in that NFF.

I am afraid ooo.
