There have been some arguments as to whether God choose spouse for man. Some say yes, and some others conclude the negative that every man is left with his own will to make choice for himself.

While God does make choice for man, He doesn’t compel anyone to accept the choice. God gives everyone the freewill to either accept the choice or not; just the same way He gives everyone the freewill to either do good or evil. But there are always future consequences for going contrary to the will of the almighty God and anyone who does so, should be ready to bear the consequences.

The first marriage between Adam and Eve presided by God Himself signify that God still choose spouse for man. It was God who formed Eve for Adam and brought her to him (Genesis 2:21-22). Adam could have said she was not his choice but he accepted instead and professed his admiration for her and they were declared husband and wife (Genesis 2:23-24).

Since the fall of Adam and the fall of man and after sin came into the world, man could no longer dwell in the presence of God for God to make choice for them. Man was driven from the presence of God (Genesis 3:24) not only to till the ground from which he was taken (Genesis 3:23), but to live life all for himself and by himself including making choices for himself. God who doesn’t want man to remain in this state provided a remedy for man by sending His Son Jesus to restore that lost relationship between the Father and children (1 Timothy 2:5; John 14:6).

1 Timothy 2:5 KJV: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

Through Jesus our relationship with God is restored and our spirit bear witness with the Spirit that we are children of God once again after the privilege was lost in the garden of Eden (Romans 8:16). When we become children of God just like the father of a new born child, it is God who now makes choice for us both in marriage, career and every other aspect of our lives (Jeremiah 29:11). He can communicate the choice through diverse means like visions, dream or a still small voice after asking Him in prayers (Mark 11:24).

At it is written in Jeremiah 10:23 “O Lord , I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps”.

It is not man that direct his steps. It is God Himself who directs the steps of His children and their steps are all ordered by the Lord, not man nor the world (Psalm 37:23). The child may have his own plan but it’s the Lord that direct His steps (Proverbs 16:9). Just the same way the ways and choice of a little child is always ordered by parents as he knows nothing but the father knows better and it is the child's choice to either obey or disobey.

In summary, God only makes choices and choose spouse for His children whose relationship with Him has been restored by the sacrificial blood of Jesus on the cross of Calvary and whoever desires to know the exact spouse God wants for him or her should come to Him though His Son Jesus to save all the headache (Matthew 11:28).

Matthew 11:28: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

1 Corinthians 7, makes us understand that getting marriage is a choice and not a compulsion (Matthew 19:10-12). Marriage is not an achievement and neither is it something to be too excited about. It is like a cross which each and everyone one of us see, pick and lay on our shoulders and must carry till the very end of our lives (Matthew 5:32) and it comes with enormous responsibility, trials, disagreement and temptation.

Marriage is like a water and oil trying to mix together and can actually mix: with man this is impossible but with God, all things are possible (Mark 10:27).
