Ogu Eyes First Eagles Start Since March Vs Algeria ‎In Constantine

By Johnny Edward:

Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder John Ogu is confident he will make his first appearance in the World Cup qualifying series for Nigeria when the Super Eagles take on Algeria in an inconsequential clash at the Mohamed-Hamlaoui Stadium in Constantine, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Ogu who has been an unused substitute for the Super Eagles in the previous four qualifiers told Completesportsnigeria.com he will patiently take his chance when it comes.

“I’m hopeful only that you don’t have to dwell on not playing. I am a team player and will give my best for the team whenever the time comes, and I hope I get a chance against Algeria,” Ogu told Completesportsnigeria.com.

Ogu last featured for the Super Eagles in their 1-1 draw against Senegal in an international friendly in London in March.
The 29 year old also added that he will relish another midfield battle against Ever Banega when the Super Eagles battle Argentina in a pre-World Cup friendly in Krassnodar.

The pair clashed in last season’s UEFA Europa League over two legs with Ogu’s Hapoel Beer Sheva defeating the Italian side home and away.

Ogu admitted that the former Inter Milan star was a difficult player to curtail.

“He is a smart player and it was tough playing against him during the Europa League last season, but I look forward to another battle against him and the Argentines in the friendly.”
“My coach gave me specific details about him and I did carry them out because we won the ties, but Banega was silky in both legs.”

Swansea Boss, Clement: I Didn’t Influence Abraham To Pick England Over Nigeria

Swansea manager, Paul Clement, has dismissed reports stating he influenced his loanee striker from Chelsea, Tammy Abraham, to choose England over Nigeria.

Abraham, 20, who is playing on loan for Swansea, was eligible to represent Nigeria and was reported to have held talks with Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinick.

But on Thursday, Abraham got his first call-up with the England senior national team ahead of their two international friendlies against world champions Germany and Brazil.

According to bbc.com, Clement fielded question concerning Abraham’s invitation to the English team during his press conference on Thursday ahead of Swansea’s league game against Brighton, and dismissed talks of his involvement in the striker’s decision as nonsense. ‎

“I think he’ll cope well,” Clement said.

“He’s a confident young man. He needs to take it in his stride and stay grounded.

“I wasn’t involved in any discussion with Tammy about who he wanted to player for.

“I saw one report that I’d told him who to play for- that’s complete nonsense.”

Clement who was an assistant manager at Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, expressed delight that Abraham finally got his first call-up.

He added:”It’s very pleasing news to see someone we’ve brought to the club on loan rewarded with his first call-up,” said Clement.

“His all-round game is developing, including back-to-goal and defensive positioning.

“We’ll have to see. Every level he’s played at he’s contributed. And now he’s got the next test. He’s been picked on merit and we wish him well.”

Did Kanu feature in that UEFA champions league final or not?

I also know all of those Kanu's U17-U20 history.
Featuring in the final is not the same as being a regular as you posited earlier. Finidi, Seedorf, the Boer brothers, Overmars, Kluivert, Edgar Davids were the regulars.

Enyeama Gives Conditions For Super Eagles Return

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja: Vincent Enyeama has sensationally told Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr and the Nigeria Football Federation that he would reject a return to the national team if he is not 100% fit and in good form for the Russia 2018 World Cup, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The former Super Eagles captain voluntarily retired from the national team in October 2015 following a falling out with the then coach Sunday Oliseh, but has been linked with a recall to the Super Eagles for Russia 2018.

An NFF source told Complete Sports that Enyeama is willing to return but he has told coach Rohr that he would only make a return to the Super Eagles if he feels fit and good enough to be the first choice for the World Cup.

“Vincent is working hard to regain his fitness and form before giving his final answer to Rohr on his likely recall to the Super Eagles. He wants to merit his recall and not rejoin the team based on emergency. He has resumed training after undergoing surgery and may probably return to action with a new club,” the NFF source said.

“The former Super Eagles skipper has told Rohr to watch his recovery and invite him only if he is fit and good for a return. He insisted that he would not return to the national team if he is not convinced that he is ready for the World Cup and will help the team.”

Completesportsnigeria.com source revealed also that Rohr is determined to take Enyeama to the World Cup in Russia as his experience will be very valuable for the Super Eagles.

The source disclosed further that Rohr has made up his mind on taking Enyeama to the World Cup, adding that only the return to action of Carl Ikeme, who is currently undergoing treatment for acute leukemia, can change his mind on the goalkeeping issue.

Two Key Algeria Defenders Ruled Out Of Nigeria Clash

By Johnny Edward: K.V. Kortrijk defender Youcef Attal and Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam have both been ruled out of Algeria’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in Constantine on 10 November.

The pair will also miss their friendly against the Central African Republic four days later at the the July 5 Stadium in Algiers.

Attal and Ghoulam were two of the nine defenders called up by new coach Raber Madjer for the games against Nigeria and Central African Republic.

According to a statement of the official website on the Federation Algerian Football, Attal sustained an injury in K.V. Kortrijk’s goalless draw at home to Genk in a Belgian Pro League game last Saturday and will be unavailable for several days.

Napoli officially confirmed on their website that Ghoulam suffered “a total rupture of his right anterior cruciate ligament during Wednesday night’s loss to Manchester City, with the Algerian seen in visible discomfort while rubbing his knee.

“This morning Faouzi Ghoulam visited professor [Pierpaolo] Mariani [a noted knee specialist] at Villa Stuart.

“The Azzurro defender was subjected to clinical examinations which reveal a total rupture of his right anterior cruciate ligament.

“Ghoulam will be operated on in the morning.”

The Fennecs are expected to begin their preparation for the games on the 6th of November.

No replacement has been named yet for the duo.

The 21-year-old right-back Attal has made four international appearances for Algeria since he made his debut against Guinea under former coach Lucas Alcaraz while Ghoulam has scored five goals in 37 international appearances for Algeria.

The myth is that these players won't give in their 100% after they consider us -- a fall back option.
I know it's not nice, and we don't like to hear that. But it's the reality that we are a fall back option. Who no like better thing?
Nigerians we need to wake up. If England comes good at the senior level, I will be happy for them. We are talking of years and years of solid youth football development, and it's beginning to pay off for a country that also take other sports seriously. But we Nigerians, expect excellence without solid preparation and doing the right thing. We refuse to accept the reality in our everyday life. Go to any federal government establishment, you will see a bunch of unserious lazy people. They don't come to work early, and they leave for home early, but yet they expect to get paid. They also get kick backs just like their leaders. The average Nigerians expect kickbacks. It's now in our DNA. We reward failure and celebrate excellence. Now we are pushing for another work free day --Fridays-- in the name of religion.

For us we will keep waiting for the next golden generation. Oh yes we are a nation of over 200 million football fanatics. A golden generation will come. But we will have to wait every now and then.

ROAD TO RUSSIA: What Would Be Your Super Eagles Line-up Vs Algeria, Argentina?

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has invited a strong squad for the World Cup qualifier against Algeria in Constantine on 10 November and the friendly against Argentina in Russia four days later.

He has included all the regulars, bar the injured Victor Moses and Elderson Echiejile, and a few new names including the teenage Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francis Uzoho and Norway-based midfielder Chidiebere Nwakali.

Bearing in mind that the Algeria game has no effect on Nigeria’s World Cup qualification, as the team have already qualified for Russia 2018, and the Argentina game is a high-profile friendly against a true world power, which players would you field in both matches if you were Rohr?

Would you go for a strong line-up against one team and try new players against the other? Or would you go for a mixture in both games?

Please let us have your line-ups against Algeria and Argentina.

Super Eagles squad for Algeria, Argentina games:

Goalkeepers:

As a coach you have to start from somewhere. Rohr is not going to event Nigerians in top clubs over night. You work with the situation on ground.
Bonfrere benefited from what we've been building for 5 years with continuity. You know the situation leading to now.
I've been talking bout Qatar for no reason. Let's not expect magic in Russia. But for the efforts of Amuneke and Manu Garba in the recent past, and now Rohr. we will have a very strong side leading to Qatar.

Exactly. The thing is we don't act consciously. We are rich in terms of talents and potentials. At least from Manu boys we have like 4 in the team with others from that set being possibilities in the future. From Amunike apart from Osimhen and Nwakali I've not heard about the others sha ooo

Yeah you are right.
But that Brazilian side was really world class o. They presented 70-80% of that team at France 98. Just almost like Nigeria. But while Brazil finished second Nigeria lost scandalously to Denmark in the second round.

That Nigeria's France 98 team IMO was the most gifted we have ever presented at any WC. That was Nigeria's biggest chance to have at least reached the Q/finals or semis.
98 team come better pass 94 again? *Scratches head

Even when The Times reported that Tammy was in line for a call up, I wasn't convinced.

My position remains I want to see credible quotes first, before I run with any story. Still waiting for Tammy to get cap-tied first. But one thing is certain, Tammy has a bad PR in Nigeria.
serious bad PR fa, He just became a marked man by Nigerians. A relative of mine who stays in the same neighborhood with him the UK is already saying he will give a proper mouthful when he sees him.

If na you nko? Shebi we have trashed Iwobi own before. Was it not when England's invitation dried up he made up his mind for us? Only Aina so far came clean for us.

I find something disturbing though. Why is it that those who voluntarily declare for us thus far have never earned an invite abi we like this who do us yanga more? Think Dessers, Otigba and Deji. Although I feel Deji is too young but the NFF can say to him boy we got you. Come try out our youth teams. If we lost that guy and he turns out to an Alaba it will pain me cos this Tammy own no pain me yet oo.

The English will deny it but it is true. Systemic racism. England's Photoshoot for their world cup team must be 80% white to reflect their identity as a nation. Prior to the back 2006 world cup Darren Bent was the best striker in England but did not make the world cup squad. Rather than taking hot black players with potential they will rather use the Garth Barry's and Leighton baines of this world. I wish Tammy all the best. English players never perform on the big stage because of too many big egos and poor man management on part of their coaches.

but i still feel he might not be as strong-willed as Iwobi who resisted the overtures or as daring as Aina who came to the Super Eagles camp in London for Rohr to have a look in

Iwobi chose us when England's invite stopped. Ola Aina, Ebere Eze and Josh Maja were invited to train with the Super Eagles at their London camp in March before our friendly with Burkina Faso.

Kanu was a very young player then. And of course he didn't get as much game time as Finidi but for his age, considering for how long he had been at Ajax and in comparison to the kind of epileptic game time some of our young players are getting now, I will say he had a fair share of games.

A player like Iwobi is not a regular with Arsenal but he still commands a fair number of games. Although I expect more from him at his current age and stage in his career. Kanu was even 18+ then.

Mind you ajax then was an equivalent of what we have in Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich of today. No Nigerian is even in any of these teams today
Truth is Kanu, Okocha, Amokachi Finidi, Amunike, Babayaro, Ikpeba, Babangida, Oliseh, Taribo etc were truly young back then because I watched them when I was in primary school and today look at them still looking young. That means they started out early and established themselves quite early too.

It's football some things change, Chelsea have lost form and do not have Costa a bona-fide top quality striker.

However, Napoli that is on the top of Seria A, got flogged by Manchester city in thier home 4-2. What do you say to that

Or shall we talk about Liverpool beating Maribor 10-0 aggregate score. Or what do you say to that

Tottenham have just beaten the best team in the world arguably that's a shift of football balance.

Over all the English premiership teams as a collective are doing much better than any other league in Europe. Better than La Liga, the Bundesliga and Seria A.

What do you have to say to that

It's football that's what I'd say. The same excuse you just gave for Chelsea applies to Madrid. Madrid has lost form.
Maribor? Maribor na team? Maribor a Slovenian club? Hahahaha hahahaha. No be you like talk about league grades? Forget Maribor. Na follow come dem do.
2nd round is the crunch time. We will see your EPL then

England case na stunt.. The war is not won, but about to be won. Now Tammy has to DEMONSTRATE where his allegiance truly lies.
If Tammy had not played for England at the youth level, all Nigeria needed to do was to call him up officially, then it will be up to him to reject the call. This is the advantage England always had over us.
Did Southgate speak to Tammy after the Arsenal game? I doubt it. But Southgate didn't have to. He just needed to be official about it.

Didn't we say the same thing with Dele Alli?? Look at him now. Bros, this is a massive loss. Tammy is very talented. Let's just hope one of our young strikers explode because I honestly don't think we have a striker in his age range that is better.
Since we cannot get him, some insult or disparage him, even wish he fails in his international career to comfort themselves. You know what the Fox in Aesop's fable did? He reached for the grapes but couldn't get them and then to save face, he called the grapes sour.

Tammy is no longer potential. He's giving out what he got real deal. My joy is that we made overtures to him cos our attack would have done well with him in the fold. But He's chosen to go England's way. Good for him. Let him come good for them too.

All this your epistle. What was the priority of previous adminstration? How many years do we need to have a youth league? How many years do we need to have school games well sponsored and working? What does it take to sustain it? What we have is a national problem, and we can see it in all other sectors..
Naija na Naija..

Well, the anchor point of my epistle is for the Nff to really dig deep and fashion out a way to harness and develop talents back home.
The little effort we have put out in the past like Principal cup, Greater tommorow and others have helped in no small measure to establish us as a force in African football.

Nff needs to establish atleast 5 world class soccer academies across the country. Something modelled after the Clairfontain football academy in France. If we can pull this off and also have a highly successful league which absorbs these players like they do have in Brazil then we will be cooking with gas!

I read pages he back where you constantly disbelieved every quote about Tammy declaring for Ingurland. Well, you have to embrace reality. Tammy ain't coming grin

The amount of pressure brought to bear on Tammy was unprecedented. It had become almost an issue of national politics. The pressure was coming from the highest quarters.

My optimistic mind says na only friendly maybe chance still deh.

It says the NFF needs to start recognising talent a lot earlier and not waiting for that talent to become front page news. Then making a public bid with all to see.

The pressure is understandable. England have invested so much into Tammy and their next gen. From camping, allowances, everything.
Tammy is their product!

They deserve to enjoy their investment on the lad.

Let the Nff invest and reap from their investment. Period

I am also a Three Lions fan and always wish that they perform very well in international competitions. I feel pained that for all the swagger of the EPL, England are perennial underachievers. I also like France(then because of Zizou) and Italy (and Germany recently). I never support Brazil internationally. No place in my heart for them. They've won too much.

If not that komekn is over doing his praise of the EPL, I presume many of here love the EPL. I do. Just that my interest in club football has waned. After my interest in football was birthed in 93/94 it was the premiership sponsored then by Rothmans of Pall Mall that helped slaked my appetite for football. Xavi in his one on one interview with Four four two says his family feasted on the EPL and he still follows the EPL today

Reality is when Tammy gets cap-tied.
Trust me, Amaju ignited the war by his utterances, and they went ahead of us. The English Press went in.
But I repeat, the reality is until Tammy kicks the ball for England in a competitive match, he remains available.
And we will remain a fall back option for MANY of these lads.

Good points you made though as regards football development..

Since Tammy has been called up by the English national team coach for their games this November so let's drop all the arguments now including advertising all those small children that still don't know where they truly from.
all I'm saying...

We can give him whatever airtime he needs for two days so that some people from English forums will come here to take snapshots of us whining and blaming the whole NFF only to return it to their people and laugh at us.

But that should be it. We have been mocked enough.

Bye bye Tammy.

Now, as for Ighalo's absence, can't the NFF call up one of Dessers or Onuachu or even Kayode to fill his space? We should have placed a forward on standby instead of a midfielder and a defender.
