Thanks. Just thinking aloud, could it be that some hosps ve been blacklisted? Then the community hosp things, more of govt hosp abi Me, i just think in our shopping and scouting for cheap deals, we shld be careful of deals too gud to be true so that these VOs dont just start turning down any quote unreasonably low. Like someone posted earlier, soem hosp may be fraudulently passing on teh bills to govt or medicaid.

@Ugoguchy, if ur journey isnot that important, maybe you shld hold on and apply after a while, say like 6 months, and hopefully another VO will see things in a diff perspective.
ugoguchy:

Hospital $5500
Paediatrician $300
Obgyn $1800
Circumcision $400
Labs $190
Note i was given discounts before this final quote

Baby no 2,i used community hospital and the had a package for self pay patients
Hospital $2000 (normal delivery witout any complication and 24hours stay)
Paediatrician $187
Obgyn $1800 (same dr he's registered in both hospitals )
Lab $714
Circumcision i did here when we got back

From Fyorgyn's post, I will refer to Supernaturalone's post on applying for a new visa when one gets pregnant post obtaining visa. In my opinion, the VO already saw a pattern, maybe, Fyorgyn will go for the conference and get preggy during the course of next year, which info she didnt disclose during this interview. So the VO just put it straight on her records, no recourse to medicals, until she comes back in for another interview.

In short, saying i ve used my visa for the purpose for which it was obtained and subsequently using it for birthing purpose plus sending 'change of intent' may not fly sometimes in the future, until u ve returned to the VO for another interview.

My own 2 cents.

Hi I’m a newbie in the house, I’m also looking to get accommodation in Houston for early next year. Also haven’t had much luck with Airbnb and google searches turned quite expensive. Please I’m interested if you find any info that might help or if you be willing to share an apartment.

Now it's ticket things... Still searching the thread for info... but thought to put it out here... Cus wakanow of 2015 or Airfrance or BA of 2015 and now might not be same experience... So please do I go with Wakanow or buy ticket by myself? Airfrance or BA? What are they like with pregnant women and women with infants? Flight with one stop for 4hrs or two stops first for 8hrs then 3hrs? Two stops is obviously cheaper but without accommodation? Traveling by myself, worried it will be stressful. Airfrance two stops has Delta Airline in between, any issues envisaged with using another airline to connect.

Interview was in Lagos.

Give me your intended travel date, where u'll be traveling from and prefered airlines. let me help you check.

Hello mamanicole -

We do not have a required amount that you must spend for childbirth. You must convince us that the amount you are telling us the treatment will cost is the actual cost. Remember that we interview hundreds of applicants every week. Consular officers have ample experience looking at medical statements and receipts, and we have our own experiences with the US medical system to draw upon. So we know approximately what a range of procedures cost. Prospective applicants for medical tourism should do ample research and be suspicious of quotes that are unusually low.

LagosNIV

VO: If you dnt incure expense of over 10,000 USD u will be denied in your future application. Do not accept discounts or medicaid. Ensure you verify all discounts given to you by ur hospitals.
@LagosNiv @abujaniv pls is this true?

Congrats dear, glad I could help

OnJosh1:

Hello Chirolechick,

Thank you so much for your help. Visa was approved and has been collected.

I applied for the emergency request/ expedited interview date as advised, selected medical emergency option. Explained my reasons for the emergency request. Attached copy of my hubby's visa, dr's letter and correspondence and some other work related doc to prove why I needed to have the interview that week, as I was going out of town also as the available interview date was way past when I could travel per most airlines policies and my already scheduled Dr's appointment.

I got a response in less than 24 hrs that my request had been approved.

Chose my preferred interview date. Didn't need to pay another visa fee.

Interview day:
VO: Where in the US are you going to?
Me: Houston Texas
VO: Why?
Me: To have my baby ( I applied for medical Visa)
VO: Is this your first baby?
Me: Yes
VO: What's your budget?
Me: USD xxxx
VO: Where do you work
Me: Just started at XYZ Company, formerly at ABC Company ( Had to state this Cus I changed the name of employer on my new form as my employer when I was initially scheduled for my interview had changed)
VO: what did you do at ABC Company?
Me: I blah blah blah
VO: Is your new role in XYZ Company similar to ABC?
Me: Explained the correlation (Although I doubt that's very important)
VO: Is your hubby going with you and Does your Hubby have a Visa?
Me: Yes to both questions
VO: Family and Friends
Me: No
VO: So staying at a hotel
Me: Yes
VO: When do you intend travelling?
Me: Blah blah
VO: How long do you intend staying
Me: X months Cus I only have X no of months approved as time off work.
VO: Okay, Your Visa has been approved.
Me: Thank you.

Hubby helped pick up cus I had to head back out.

In all I say THANK GOD, it went very well. No document was requested although I had them all in a folder with me. Thank you urblackpearl for the info on updating my profile. Thank you Chirolechic.
Thank you everyone who responded to my questions and chipped in.

I would advise that you buy directly from the airline. In the event of any change in the itenary you will not be shafted by the agents as they charge an arm and a leg to change dates

hi, pls how long is the visa for? And do you pay cash in dollars or naira at the airport or card... Thanks
PrinceAdeAde:
Hello All,

Thanks for the information and support. My journey ends here. Just some tips based on my wife second US birthing experience
1. You need two valid means of identifications(preferably driver's licence & international passport) to process and collect US docs(Birth certificate,US Passport). My wife licence expired before she traveled and she forgot this requirement so it was not as straightforward as her first experience. Alternatively, you can use work ID or any US resident to identify you.

2. Visa on Arrival is way cheaper and hassle free than it is made to look(the only cheaper option on the long run is if you are in atlanta and go for the baby nigerian passport). Just send a mail to oa@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng requesting for one using the format shared previously on the forum and you would be responded to early enough. in my case,I got a response the same day and please do it yourself and dont pay any processing money. You only need to pay the actual application fee to immigration which can be made on arrival($180 using card and $190 using cash though. Surprisingly,my wife mentioned they did not even look at any letter at Lagos Airport to give our baby the visa. Note that houston immigration requested to sight the actual email so you may want to keep your phone and email handy to avoid complications

Am always available on PM to assist with any further information.Good luck to all expecting mums and Dads. God Bless

Hi.
For you to get the passport immediately you have to go to the passport office in Washington DC once you have the BC & SSN. Else you have to wait.

Thanks Shirley013

you actually don't need the SSN for the passport. you only need the BC. you did be given a form to sign staying that you've not been given the SSN.

Pls house, Is it possible to bring back a baby to Nigeria and then do d baby's US passport in Nigeria. (A woman did this abt 8yrs ago wen custom stamped just one month stay for her.) Dunno if it's still possible now.
In my case I was stamped in for 3months. So I have jst 3/4weeks to process baby's papers. It takes abt 3wks to get BC alone in Virginia nt to talk of passport

It use to be very straight forward, but not anymore,it looks like they've bared naija IP addresses. If you know an it expert,he just might be able to go around it.
Or better still, get someone in the Us to do it for you.
