This used to be me.

I depended on acquiring gadgets and merchandises upon first week of release for external validation and admiration. When my economic situation changed for a short period and I could not acquire these things and validations/admirations weren't forthcoming; the endless fear of losing relevance almost drove me insane. I felt like a crack-head going through deprive and withdrawal phase. Somehow, the situation helped me see through the type of life I was living. Now, today, I find it funny when I see other folks doing the same things. There's no happiness beyond being content with wholesomeness from within, I learnt this the hard way.

Respect is humans greatest desire. That is what pushes us to do exploit. Marriage cannot survive without respect, even children desire it. Some people earn their respect, some wants it by force.
But what about respect that comes from owning a new iphone, it is temporary respect. What is your identity without such expensive gadget.

You can't help it can you? Even when people simply make passing comments as long as the spelling G-O-D is found in their comment anywhere, you would go against that comment like a maniacal robot who though already switched off still has to use its last battery power to at least do something...or anything.
