i don't blive dat unbroken happiness is a bore (even though my broda does),because happiness cannot be bought,it lives inside u,it is u,u jst have to let it be.i blive wat u mean is fullfilments and achievment, which offer temporary happiness, and if u depend on dem for ur happiness den u can never be truly happy.so lets assume d question is unbroken fulfilments/achievement is a bore?humans being wat we are,can never be satisfied wit wat we have.we want sumtin,we get,den we want sumtin more, den we get it,and it goes on and on and on.And if i can always get wat i want evry tym i want it,i don't think its any boredom to me.

iAmCharis:
Lol see epistle wey you take reply simple kweshon shockedgrin

This is a peculiar case.. There are thousands of persons out there who got admitted into the course of their dream and excelled in it all through. They had unbroken happiness

Bia, let's be realistic. Didn't bathe to school, wash their clothes, always slept on benches, barely eat real food? All these are lies. Yes, it happens but it's not seldom. We all read the interview of the guy that graduated with 5.0 from Unilag. He didn't experience this. I had a hostel mate then that graduated with a first class from electrical engineering. This guy plays football every evening with other students. He partied, had several relationships and everything a normal person does. Most times, I read for very very long hours. It didn't break my happiness rather, it was a pleasure. It was a pleasure to decipher and prove equations and theories most of my classmates couldn't. I guess Joe's point of view comes to play here. Happiness is relative.

Biko stop make unrealistic instances. Why will a boss pat you on your back when you come late for work, abuse and fight your colleagues? And when he queries you for such, is that enough to break your happiness??

*crunches popcorn*
The 'see long notes on top small question' is becoming stale.. If you have issues reading long notes, let those who want to do it..

And why do I have to make unrealistic instances? For what gains? Are you paying me for it? These guys were my friends as they dragged me to night classes.. I rush back home to go shower for an exam, while they stroll in to revise with hopes to bath later..

Seriously, you do not have to call me a liar to buttress a point or over things I witnessed.. What's the essence of lying without being paid for it? It was/is an insult..

Remember you made a fallacy about old couples you have known who have NEVER had issues before (unbroken happiness been possible), and I told you its never possible because boredom will definitely creep up.. I am surprised you never mentioned it again here, inasmuch as you were arguing ceaselessly on BBM..

And why wouldn't a boss who wants to go in between a lady's leg/wish for a chance to date her pat her on the back when she does something wrong?

Or why wouldn't a married man who lied to be single say a 'yes' to every wrong(s) carried out by his mistress?

Even with siblings, when there are no little fights, sparks etc, they become bored, and create troubles themselves not to talk of two different individuals..

Well, you have made your point.. Like I said, everyone to how he/she understands it.

Mmmh... this is food for thought really. Is there any such thing as 'unbroken happiness'? Like having a chain of happiness, wholly and unbroken? I don't think so.

No one in this life have I met or heard of, has monopoly of happiness that makes for a 365/366 days of happiness unend, no, not one. Somehow in some way, something alters our plan and steals our joy before the year is gone.

However, our reaction to an alteration of joy and happiness is where the onus lies. I want to believe albeit that with the right attitude one can experience unbroken happiness but the question is for how long?

A day? A week? A month? or, A year?
The answer to this question will determine whether unbroken happiness is a fact or fallacy.

And then whether it is a bore, Mmmh, that one hard o because me, I wouldn't want a kill joy around me but in the case of a relationship, e go boring die! What kind of thick skin will a partner have that will make it difficult for him to flinch in the face of a quarrel or challenge?

Even the ever smiling Joel Osteen, I doubt experiences unbroken happiness.

Vivly:
Unbroken Happiness exists only for the contented.
Those who find unbroken Happiness to be a bore were never really happy in the first place because to find a lax, a fault in your happiness (the boredom) is itself unhappiness.
Well, I think happiness can never be valued if we do not encounter sadness. There is a reason why there is an opposite. Don't you think so? What makes life worthwhile if there are no challenges, sad, happy, victorious moments?

• Being hungry make me/you appreciate food.
• Problems exist to make me/you appreciate happiness..

Someone talked about loosing a loved one before you can feel broken happiness.. Well, I wasn't even going that deep..

• Why do cars have brakes?

• Why do roads have traffic lights, bumps, T-junctions, zebra crossings etc?

Anything that disrupts/breaks my happiness makes it broken, and only things that disrupt my happiness makes me stronger.. It doesn't make me a sad person.. Lolz!! Never!!

P.S: If you can, look out for Viktor Frankl E's Man's Search for Meaning.. I can send you a PDF.. I love his quotes:
-- What is to give light must endure burning

-- Challenging the meaning of life is the truest expression of the state of being human.

Happiness is pretty much relative and perhaps more of your state of wellbeing or rather where you choose to live psychologically and mentally.

I once had a simple argument with a friend over our emotions and how that people respond to the same situations (given that all things are equal) differently. What would literally break someone wouldnt make another flinch. Bottom line is if true happiness is actually linked to certain things in our lives then it becomes difficult to define happiness. Ever wondered why people have mood swings or multiple personalities?

Unbroken happiness might seem somewhat hypothetical but what i think is a bore is the fact that we all want to have new experiences not necessarily ups and downs. Now the absence of anything new to excite us tends to bring the feeling of boredom.

My people have said it all.
People around me have a problem with the "bore", they insisted it isn't boring. Unbroken happiness is not a possibility to them, but it isn't entirely boring either.

Personally, I love a little drama here and there... angry

Sleekyshuga:
Unbroken happiness is a bore; it should have ups and downs

Culled from: Half Of A Yellow Sun
Author: Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche
Page: 314

Unbroken: whole, not divided into parts.

Happiness: the emotion of being happy; joy.

Bore (from the context of my question): to inspire boredom in somebody.

I finished C.N.A's Americanah, and dived for her Half of a Yellow Sun. Though, I have seen the movie but I realized that it is nowhere as intriguing as her book. It's a MUST READ for all lovers of literary work.

I stumbled on the quote (above) she made and uploaded it on my Personal Message (PM) on BBM. Since I totally agreed with her, I thought everyone did, not until I got a mention from someone today countering me, saying it was wrong. I tried explaining to him in the best of my knowledge but he stood his grounds. I decided to ask others, and I got answers different from my thought, though two ladies agreed with me, with the other basing her points on an adventurer (a relationship adventurer), though, I countered her telling her it applies to all spheres of life..

Unbroken happiness can't be a bore. It's impossible to have unbroken happiness.., Mr. J.
--- Unbroken happiness is a key to a healthy living, relationship, career, life etc but it's practically impossible.

Any everlasting/unbroken happiness is fake? Yes, I replied.. I GIVE UP was his astonished answer.., Mr. C.
--- There is NO everlasting/unbroken happiness... Any everlasting/unbroken happiness is pretense..

Happiness is a certainty, and I know of couples that have never quarreled/had issues before.., Mr. A.
--- Inasmuch as we all want happiness, an unbroken relationship/happiness do not exist..

What then is the essence of happiness if it cannot be broken?

'UNBROKEN HAPPINESS/RELATIONSHIP/LIFE IS A BORE; IT SHOULD HAVE UPs AND DOWNs.'

What's your take on this? Do you agree or disagree with the above? If yes, give, reasons, vice versa..

Matured responses, please kiss..

i belive unbroken happiness is a myth... fantasy, but if it were real it would truly be a bore... the value of light is only found in comparison with darkness... so also our happiness only gains true worth when we have sadness, and unhappiness to balance it out....

Am sorry o, this is the wrong place to write this but I don't want to intrude on ur personal space in your diary, and I tried sending an email but nairaland decided I can't edit the message to be sent

I just went through your diary now, and I will say am inspired by your persistence, the way u put down ur thoughts.... I think myself as some sort of genius but I have a problem expressing my self in writing, the thoughts are overwhelming so I keep much of my thoughts in my head But after reading ur diary I've got an idea what I will do, I'd get myself a diary and write my daemons...

#thankyou

To every success, there is a bridge..
To every course you are fighting for, something (a sacrifice) has to be paid..

• I applied for Medicine (unbroken happiness), and instead, I got a course I never knew existed. I had to adjust (it became a challenge/downs). My ability to sail in that course becomes my success story (ups).

• I had classmates who didn't bathe to school, wash their clothes, slept on benches, barely ate real food, had little or no social life all in a feat to achieve success.. I remember my c.rep telling me he never cooked from his year 1 till he graduated, all because he wanted to leave with a first class, and of course, he did it..

There are periods you just don't want to read but because of the goal(s) ahead, you brace up, leave your unbroken happiness/comfort zone to tackle the ups & downs in academics..

Whether you like it or not, that was a bridge to their happiness/normal lives..

• Why would I want to have a boss who will always pat me on my back when I do something wrong, come late to work, abuse and fight my colleagues all because he wants me happy undecided?

• Or a boyfriend/hubby who would want me happy always even at the detriment of my own mistakes/faults? Whatever happens to shaking that unbroken happiness?

Wouldn't I get bored? Of course, I will.

IAmCharis, wouldn't you get bored undecided? Where then is the chance to prove that you are ready to learn, and be better if things goes smoothly for you?

'Even the rich also cry.'

I wouldn't shove my opinions down your throat grin!! Each man to his own understanding..

Your words pierced my heart. Please, can you be my mentor? I need some one to speak in to my life.
