It actually ended 0-1 to Argentina, Russia didn't and couldn't score
One wonders how they were able to put 3 past Spain.... grin
Football can be crazy sometimes

Icon79:
Russia 1 Argentina 2. But the scoreline flattered Russia ... it would've been more like 6-1, if not for their goalkeeper - Akinfevev.

with what you have said here, you and I know that aina chances of making the final team to russia is minimal except some other players are injured. The RB is surely btw shehu and ebuehi though I have seen you making a case for shehu to be pushed up into the midfield for your dear aina to have a chance but you are not rohr, we all thought aina had finally displaced elderson until yesterday's game though I already saw the signs against Algeria. Pray harder for aina to make the cut cos for now it's not looking too good for him

Did Aina played LB yesterday? Is there difference btw LWB and LB, 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 formation?

Can Elderson play that role? Besides, Aina is a better player on the RB role. I know this because I saw him played in that role several times and he he more better attacking than defending.

However, I will chose Ebuehi ahead of Aina for now because Ebuehi is more experienced.

If Isaac success resurrect his career by having more playing time, eida AGBO/Partially MUSA if his situation remain like dis could b dropped,

Enyeama, Isaac success and Joel obi (if fit)re d only three major contenders dt I feel will gatecrash d "23man list" usually called up for national duties of recent.

Even Uche Agbo that has been invited ever since never see one minute play.

Uche Agbo case is different from Nwakali because he deserves to be invited.

They are really talented footballers.

But I'd disagree with you as regards Aneke, his style is a bit similar to Paul Pogba.

He wouldn't do badly in LaLiga though, my only problem with these English born players is their reluctance to seek a move elsewhere. They'd rather remain in Championship or League 1.

Aneke is very slow hence my submission. He will fair better in la liga. Aneke was doing well in Belgium pro league before injury set in, and that was why he came back to England.

How could u notice that he played better in the second when we did all the playing at least from the beginning of the second? He was way bellow the level we have come to expect of him. The score does not always tell the whole story especially when it comes to individual performances.

Because immediately we scored the 3rd goal, Argentina came at us. He made crucial blocks or interceptions in the box.

We soaked their attacks with the intention to counter attack. That was how we were able to open them up.

So, you should expect a lot of defending to acheive that.

Had Flores kept his job, and Ighalo remained at watford, the story might have been different for Success.

Ighalo was someone he looked up to.

So glad about the game. Everyone's said all that needs to be said. Although, I appreciate Mikel's game a lot, but there are sometimes he poisoned some of our attacks by slowing down the running momentum. He should learn to go with the flow sometimes when we're counter attacking.

I focuced more on those players praised and castigated here yesterday hence my full attention on them.

Pls, watch the replay again and you will see he performed better in the second half. Did you see those blocks he made in the box?

Akpeyi people claimed was porous actually did very well. The only mistake was the ball he handled outside the box. Beside, that he was ok because he made 3 crucial saves.

It is unfair people want him out despite those saves.

what a victory ! i greet you all . has anyone been taken note of the new passing style in the super eagles ... diagonal style that you can't predict who will have the ball next ? ...this has been our strenght . and i noticed its ochestrated in such a way to break any defence ... i noticed the same style of passing against ZAMBIA ... that lead to the winning goal ... same style was used against Argentina and it produced 2 goals . i so far i am satisfied ...and i am sure it will get better .

Ogu provides 'soft' energy and it favors Ndidi cos Ndidi is high octane. Onazi too is high on energy and does not pipe for Ndidi. Perhaps the best is to play one and not both of them.
Exactly,in our next friendly play one of the two with Ogu.

Bro,only Mikel's absence can be felt by the team.

With Brian and Ebuehi, V.Moses knows we won't miss him that much like the S.A match.

Our major concern should be "Who will step into Mikel's position, if he gets injured in maybe the knock-out stage?

The team has always struggled to create chances in his absence.

Etebo have failed twice in this role.

Aina has been played out of position and out of formation. So, what do you expect?

Did he concede it with nation team, hope you remember Cech conceded like 5 goals this season, does it mean he is not good.

As at 1993 Rufai was just trying to get his feet back and dropping a la liga keeper keeping week in week out raised a lot of questions then, though we won Afcon but it was glaring in the semi final and final Dodo Manyana was not Dodo of maroc 88.

The best of Rufai was 1983 to 1989 and nobody to argue that, this was Rufai of Stationary Store,Femo scorpion of Eruwa,Require Dragon of Benin Republic.

Did you remember Rufai was clubless in early 90s that forced him to go back to school, his clubless gave rise to Alloy Agu who was doing it well with Maastricht in dutch league and Agbonavbare at Deportivo LA Coruna.

Rufai contract at Lokeren was later cancelled it was hectic for him during this period and Westerhoff need to come in and recommended him to Go Ahead Eagles in Dutch league.

Westerhoff needs to listen to yearnings of fans cos we don't want see any keeper apart from Rufai, this was what cost the like of David Ngodigba eagles shirt.

Prior to our last WC qualifications match against Cameroon in Yaounde, Rufai came to camp uninvited and Westerhoff said no way,he took Ngodigba to Yaoundé, we lost the match by a lone goal but fans descended on Ngodigba for no reason.

The meted the same treatment on Alloy Agu,Nigerians don't want Alloy in goal no matter his performance though a very average keeper by every standard but Rufai was not having it good in Europe.

The discovery of long forgotten Agbonavbare was a masterstroke that assisted Nigeria in qualifying for her first WC,despite his heroic performance, fans still believe he was not the best even the NFF believed Rufai was the ultimate.

This forced Westerhoff to invite Rufai after qualification to afcon and WC to see Rufai cos he thought despite Agbonavbare performance and for fans to be yearning for Rufai then he must be a good keeper.

Goalkeeper trainer really work on Rufai to bring him back to form, this paved way for Dodo as number 1 at Afcon and WC but very glaring those that watched him at afcon 84 and maroc 88 knew Rufai has passed his prime just like Stephen Keshi.

I had a lot of discussion with Clemens Westerhoff cos i handled most of his utilities bills so we talked a lot on Nigeria football and the politics involved,so i was able to get some fact from him ranging from players selections and he said loyalty first before perfornance.

He said initially he doubted Rufai loyalty and also his club form did not help the situation and need to settle for Alloy Agu and Agbonavbare but he regretted not given him the chance prior to Yaounde match in 1989,that he later listened to fans yearning after 4 years just to take a look but funny enough the goalkeeper trainer admired Rufai.

he said Super Eagles was the most difficult job in the world cos everyone in Nigeria knows the game and love the team passionately.

Wow, a good insight into our goal keeping history.

My brother to tell you the truth I was one of those Peter Rufai die hard fans.

I never liked Agbonavbare and Ngodigha after their exploits at the Seoul 1988 Olympics. They didn't inspire confidence.

Alloy Agu was a good goalie IMO but we felt Peter Rufai was better and so we clamoured for his return for the 1994 AFCON. Alloy Agu didn't really have a good outing at Senegal 92 AFCON.

Westerhoff was right about Nigerian fans' knowledge of football then. We were closer to the national and local scene than the European scene. So we knew almost every Nigerian league and national team player and what they were capable of.

Good knowledge Nigerian football bro. Kudos to you.

I never understood why agbonavbare received so much criticism. He was a very good keeper in my view. I think rufai just had a cult like following. People really loved Rufai. I was a Rufai fan until France 98.

Truly Akpeyi wasn't that bad. The mistake was due to the fact that the linesman raised his flag but the referee blew for the game to continue. It was a mix up. Awaziem was even protesting. But his positioning was poor for the free kick. I don't think he'd be booted out sha

To be sincere, Aina is typically a more attacking minded right back at Hull city. He in not a LB.

The right back is not yet locked until we see him, Brian Idowu, Moses Odubanjo and Nura Abdullahi play in that RB role.
