Agali is Eagles’ chief scout for Russia 2018

OKOGBA

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has listed former striker, Victor Agali as his chief scout going to the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

Victor Agali

Rohr who guided the Super Eagles to a highly successful qualification campaign told Nice news outlet Nice-Martin that Agali’s contribution to the campaign was priceless, hence his decision to retain him for the World Cup.

Agali worked with Rohr throughout the qualifiers in the capacity of scouting opposition teams and helping identify Nigerian players abroad.

Agali played under Rohr at French side OGC Nice in the 2004-2005 season, scoring six goals in 30 appearances.

It is understood that Rohr is looking at the possibilities of engaging more ex-internationals to enable him build a formidable team for the country ahead of the World Cup in Russia 2018.

I deserve a place in Rohr’s World Cup team –Ebuehi

Dutch-born Ado Den Haag right-back Tyronne Ebuehi believes his display during the Argentina friendly would convince Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr that he is worthy of joining his team to the World Cup.

The 21-year-old, who made his international debut in a 3-0 friendly win over Togo on June after switching his allegiance from Holland to Nigeria, was fielded in the 4-2 defeat of Argentina in a friendly affair in Russia a week ago.

Ebuehi came on as a 46th minute substitute and stamped his authority on the match within moments of his introduction by nullifying the threat of Paris Saint-Germain star Angel Di Maria.

The Haarlem-born defender expressed his delight at having the opportunity of playing against one of the best players in the world.

“I played against Angel Di Maria, a great player of course, and I cannot quite realise that I can play against him,’’ Ebuehi was quoted by voetbalprimeur.nl as saying at the weekend.

“Defensively, I stood my ground, and offensively I tried to do as much as possible, and it all went well, I think.”

Now, the player, who has a Nigerian father and a Dutch mother, says having proved his class in the clash against the star-studded Argentine side, he should be considered for a spot in Rohr’s World Cup squad.

“All of a sudden you play against world stars, normally you see them on TV or you play them with FIFA on the computer,” Ebuehi was quoted by Dutch outlet NOS as saying on Monday.

He believes his trademark speedy runs down the right flank, which have helped him cement a regular starting spot at ADO Den Haag, would help the Eagles in Russia.

“I think it (playing against Argentina) went well, I have a lot of speed and I try to get a lot of the ball,” Ebuehi told NOS.

“I think I left a good impression, it would be nice, that I play at the World Cup next year.”
RipplesNigeria… without borders, without fears
then You can go and relax because of a 45 minute performance. There are several more games for you to prove yourself if you don't know.

I blame those have been praising you to the high heavens.

I just hope Rohr won't jump into conclusions on this guy yet.

Mujtahida you belong to a class here so don't join all these roforofo fight, leave them to sort their issues out.

Pls let's talk football, anybody that want 11 Yorubas or 11 Igbos in the XI should go ahead, there is no short cut in football cos players were always expose.

I can tell you we have some bleeping tribal guys here but you just need maturity to get along. If you have third eyes you w know them, they hide it but they are real sectional.

I hope this thread w not be turned to political thread were you hear zombie, wailers, afonja,Igbos. This is football thread and we are all here for a purpose, the growth of super eagles.

Let me tell you basic fact a TRIBAL man we always identify tribalism, so if they like they should keep on mentioning Kunle,Gbenga,Abiodun, Bola etc or Ebere,Chukwu,Chidi, Chukwudi etc the best w always play for eagles.

Icon4s said he has learnt to ignore comments that w not yield any result than for one to make a statement out of annoyance that one w be regretting later.

Petrobas was force to make a statement you HATE IGBO cos he cannot ignored, better for us to learn how to ignore and move on.

Let me tell you basic fact about me if i quote you and I see that you are not the type i don't quote again. If am wrong i apologize immediately, am not here to win trophy but to share ideas and learn.

Forgiveness is free to say anything as far he didn't disobey the rules of the thread, the best if you cannot have healthy arguments with him you move on.Let him name any player it's his opinion he can't force them on Rohr and is free to criticise him, nobody business.

Remember have come here several time to analyze factors that can be responsible for players invitations and you make your own contribution, so what is big deal in what Forgiveness is saying regards player invitation.

I have some monikers i take delight in having discussion with regularly, some very rear, some i don't quote cos it w end in insult. If i quote and i noticed our discussion is losing basic respect i cut off i can even say am sorry or OK just to end it.

Mujtahida,Jobie, tbaba1013,Junnyake,four of you belong to a class here if you don't know and you guys are too big for this distraction cos we source a lot from you.

The fact remains FOOTBALL belongs to the IGBOS no debate on it,any tribe feel marginalised w just be wasting their time.
Sighs. Thanks. Points noted. I will avoid making such interventions next time. I will learn to ignore. It's just that it's painful. Kog45 I hate tribalism with deep passion. I grew up on the Airforce Base cos my Dad is a soldier now retired. I grew up seeing all the ethnic groups in Nigeria live harmoniously. Till date because of that background I can tell where a person is from just by seeing the person's face and hearing the person speak. Our parents love each like brothers and sisters irrespective of tribe or religion(shey na when you dey battle front you go begin think of tribe?) and that same spirit is what we their children share. I grew up in the middle belt, went to university in Zaria, law school lagos, spent seven years in Akure.
Every where I go, I look to see that same harmony replicated amongst our people just like the one I experienced growing up and in football I see it. So I find it disturbing when the San San of tribalism or subtle allusions in that direction is thrown into the discussions about the team.

Like Segun Odegbami opined in his piece this team has a burden on it to prove that the black man can excel at the highest stage. We just have to rally behind the team. I am one who believes that our thoughts have the power to influence the team's performance. Let's continue channelling positive energy in their direction and who knows they might surprise us all.

None of my tribesmen had ever played for the NT. Should I now gather my kinsmen, assemble ourselves in front of the Lagos lagoon taking a leap one after another crying marginalization??

The closest player I'd say we ever had was Stephen Odey, but how many times have you seen me pushing for his callup? I care about performances not representation from different ethnic groups of the country.
I stand corrected but I think odey is from cross river state but born in Lagos.

Yes tribalism brings division and not healthy at all.It always gives mediocre chance over brilliance.

We will be promoting mediocrity if we keep calling for federal character.
The best should always be given a chance regardless of where they come from.
Naturally every tribe will be represented in all sectors.

He is good but who is he gonna displace?

Each time I read this line I feel a bit of disappointment. Prior to the match against Argentina, that line kinda worked perfectly. Then came the 3-5-2 formation and then suddenly the regulars can actually be benched. Wow! I never thought I would see the day. This is why we should not get ahead of ourselves here. There can only be one captain of a ship.and so there can only be one technical adviser/coach for the super eagles. All our speculations on what our starting 11 should always look like is getting flawed day by day. We should leave that to Gernot Rohr. He is the leader of the team and he is the one with direction we are heading as a team. He alone has the road map to our destination. Wresting leadership from his hands is tantamount to chaos and the moment a leader cedes destination over to his followers, there is bound to be catastrophe.

Rohr knows the people he wants in his team and what he wants to achieve. The best we can do is support him. If Rohr decides to invite one backwater league player to the National team, it is because he sees something in the player which isnt obvious to us. This talk of who is he gonna bench should stop. Bottomline is any player can be started and any player can be benched. This is what gives rise to quality performance. So long as the coach does the right thing at all times and he gets the right results, then we should relax.

I am not saying that Rohr gets it right all the time but my argument is any player can be started and any player can be benched. Period!
Bros, those who have spoken with and to Rohr say that the man has very clear ideas what he wants and the direction he wants the team to go. Many of the things we say here are borne out of ignorance and misinformation.

I am proudly Yoruba (though I didn't choose to be one), the very thing that always bring people to this thread is the fact that we can share out opinions without getting into a tug of war like the politics thread. Let's try to avoid the use of words like marginalization, nepotism and any other word with "tribe" as the base word. The player I look forward to seeing in the NT is still Joel Obi.

God bless Nigeria

I don't know of others but I am excited when I see a player invited. I want to see what he has to offer. I will be happy to see Joel Obi too.
My bias is against the old guard but even them I won't kill myself if they get invited and they perform. The vision is one, the mission is one, the goal is one, the glory, the joy is all ours.

forgiveness:

My emphasises have always been harmmered on performance and not equal representative of tribes. That, I have tried to justify with proven facts.

Is that difficult to perceive or understand?

If players neglected happen to be from one particular tribe and are performing well, does it matters if one advocate for them? Does it make ones campaign a call for equal representation of ethnic groups in the SE even when it is clear they are better than some players in the SE?

Does it matter who and where the advocate comes from?

Is Komen seeking equal representation of ethnic groups by voicing out for Aluko, Martins, Onomah, Tammy etc? Is he a tribal bigot?

Focus on the message and not the messenger so doing, you can have a sound reasoning.
It's okay, my brother. We all love the team. I would rather believe you to be calling for players in consideration of performance than on the basis of tribe. I don't want to see you as a tribal bigot. God bless you Sire.

Don't mind the journalist putting a spin on what the young man said. Did you see the headline in the body of the article? In fact that he did that interview in Dutch to Ado den haag TV.

The young man even sounds like one who is struck by the wonder of the opportunity he's gotten as a member of our team.
In an interview he said when Troost first contacted him, he(Ebuehi) was surprised because we(Nigeria) have players all over the World. Does that sound like a player who would now be boasting that he deserves a place as that spurious headline seems to insinuate?

So you don't know that on this thread we have evolved a principle of filtering information because we have discovered that most of the news are either false or full of misinformation.
Joebie would say don't follow the headline. Follow the direct quotes in the article.

Africans are so petty, reason why they cant point to one single invention they gave rise to nor a developed country the Europeans didnt help them build. Always crying over stupid issues that never get us anywhere. Look at how sorry Nigeria is...It gives me the rage,I swear!

I am a well traveled man and I have traded, worked and dined with people from all over the world and I can tell you from experience that African are weak in the mind. And education has nothing to do with it, its just a cover up. Go to business run by Africans in the U.S and see how deplorable they are. Sometimes I feel Africans are somewhat inferior to other race.

I picked out a Cameroonian girl by her last name and she thought I was Cameroonian only to be disappointed when I mentioned NAIJA BOY. The first thing she said was I dont hang with Nigerians in the presence of my foreign friends who were shocked...lol. Little did she know that before the partitioning of Africa the tribes living on both side of the border were relations. Sad.
