Just ask him what was decorating the palace of "yoruba kings" when the british arrived.
Oba Ovonramwen had His bronzes which are now in the british museum and in museums all around the world.
But what was decorating the "yoruba palaces", they claim to have taught us how to make our bronze then how come they had none in their "palaces" ?

Stop quoting wikipedia, those pages were written by people whom are just as clueless as you on the subject.
There is really something wrong in nigerian education which makes you guys constantly quote wikipedia on things such as undocumented african "history" !
Can anybody show actual evidence for these claims ?
The portuguese were already visiting Benin in the middle ages and the name they wrote down is Benin Kingdom, The Edo people also call their kingdom Benin Kingdom ! and now some fools are telling us a story about ibini or ubini or whatever and that it is the portugues who changed our name ? WTF is wrong with you people ?

Stop being sentimental and arrogant. You made a bogus claim with no evidence while
asking others to provide evidence for a widely accepted oral history.
The Portuguese first arrived in Benin in the 15th century
when Oba Ewuare, was on the throne. No one is claiming
that the portuguese changed the name. Benin's original name was Igodomigodo.
It was said to have been renamed by Oranmiyan in the 12th century before the
first whiteman ever set foot in Benin.

LOL @ Benin..they are our backbitting brothers. They are busy laying claims to Lagos, and someone else is claiming their backyard.

You will soon loose Benin to Ijaws.

You always join Igbos to attack us.

Yes Benin is no man land.

I am Yoruba, I believe we share ancestral heritage with Benin. But Benin always backbite

Keep quiet, this is a serious discussion.

It is very simple, if you don't have proof, then don't claim.
I reject your claim of "igodomigodo" no matter how many people you claim have accepted it. i reject that because there is no proof.
Please specify what you claim I didn't prove.
And check out the pre-colonial maps which I posted.
And also this is not the right thread for this discussion.

Your ranting did not answer my question. Check my first line "Yoruba is plus or minus anybody" Yoruba don't claim people rather people trace their descent to us even as far as Ewe of Present day Togo. The binis are the one trying to claim other people by your revisionist history of a lost prince being recalled from Ile Ife and the fallacy of Lagos. Binis are now laughing stock for Nairaland folks. "Oba no dey comot for Palace", now he is in Garki going up and down, bini owns Lagos , now the Ijaws are here to claim the tiny enclave you are even managing. Please accept my sympathy. You said OBA is not a Yoruba word only, why not prove me wrong by spelling it using your alphabets?

I haven’t read an actual research stating they borrowed the bead stuff from us but archeological excavations in Ife come to mind. Old Ooni terracota and I think bronze works depict them to wear a lot of bead especially around the neck/chest area. Also, the red bead [Iyun] and blue bead [Segi] were Ife items of trade that we took to as far as Senegal/Ivory Coast [the kingdom/empire covering that geographical space many centuries in the past - I think Songhai] and Mali Empire. We can draw inference that Ife/Yoruba transferred the idea of beads as an item of royalty to Bini. Only royalties back then wore red beads. The Bini do not have a record [historically or archeologically] to have had a bead industry or traded in it. We gave them monarchy, arts and we may have as well given them beads.

If I nor see literature on this, na thesis wey person fit work on o, at least a journal article.

Which ones of your kings got exiled by the british ?

If you want to have a discussion about stereotypes I think this is not the right thread.
As much as I would like to prove to you that "yoruba" are actually much more involved in prostitution than Edo, as you can see I am too busy here with other things. By the way I just passed in front of some yoruba prostitutes.
