CHAN is a serious tournament. By FIFA power ranking, CHAN is a confederation tournament which earns 3.0 points.
In the eyes of FIFA, CHAN is on par with the AFCON.
CHAN points is actually worth more than FIFA world cup qualifiers.

NO matter how bad things maybe, there is no chance in hell we would loose all 3 games in CHAN,even if a community secondary school team represented us.

Just a couple of wins in that tournament boosts our ranking.

For me, this CHAN team is too good to exit the tournament at the group stage.

I said some time ago about this issue of goal keeper is the least of our worries right now and time will prove this to be correct. A few posts ago, I asked us a question, which would you prefer between a bad goalkeeper, strong attack, and strong defence OR a good goalkeeper, good defence , bad attack. No on has been able to respond.

I will say it again, the goal keepin department is the least of our worries right now considering the fact that if we play a brand of attacking football heavily based on possession, our goal keepers may largely be untested in a competitive match.

What should be our major concern right now is how to get at least 2 replacements for Mikel before the world cup starts and start blendin them in. Which footballer has vision? Which player has accurate passes ? And can hold the midfield as well. I have said it before whether sarcastically or whatever, we can play without a goalie. Let us worry about someone to deputize for mikel. Scouts should come up with names of quality players that can do ball distribution. We have seen good goalies being messed up by a bad defence before so dont make it look like if Enyeama keeps the goal, he aint gonna concede.

June is almost here. Close ur eyes and open it and the world cup is upon us. Wake up everyone and stop debating what will not in the end matter. The sad news is our opponents are also analysing us. I dare say they even know this thread exists. We are the ones giving them the exposé on our team. They know what to do to take out Mikel. And once Mikel is out, the sting i our attack is gone. We are here debating goalies..... ok O.

Look at the other teams in our group: Libya, Rwanda and Equatorial Guinea. These are lowly ranked teams that we are expected to beat. Just a lose or draw against any one of them is enough to negate the whole ranking points even if we win the other 2 group games. So we must claim all 9points. That is my point.

Yes I am not saying experience or any other categories mentioned are not good. They are very good. It's a cliché that experience is the best teacher and we all know through practical life experience how much we have learned through our various experiences. Same thing with football. It's said that gk are like wine, they taste better with age. This is all fine.

My point was that experience must serve the purpose of performance. If an experienced gk will not give us good performance what then is the benefit of his experience? So performance reigns supreme. It can be assumed that an experienced gk will help our performance. Fine. That too is my assumption but if it turns out otherwise then like the goodjoe will say let the gk who has the quality to give us good performance man the sticks. That's what I mean by not using any category to set up totalitarian criteria that is set in stone and cannot change. Even performance cannot be set up as an inflexible criteria where for example a gifted player wants to unsettle the unity in the team. He should be kicked out.

So my question is: experience just good in itself if serves no positive purpose? As in where our assumption that experience and performance goes together does not hold should we continue to stick to experience even when no quality performance is coming out from it?

CHAN is rated as confederations level competition which is a 3 pointer while Wafu and other small regional competitions like Cecafa and cosafa are 1 pointers. So I thought anyway.

Just imagine If you had judged Ezenwa solely based on his first 45mins against Cameroon and concluded and sealed a deal only for you to later see his other sides.

We have not seen Uzoho enough to conclude he is the best keeper. He has not even played in a charged competitive atmosphere like Ezenwa did. Uzoho is not tested. For now I have not seen enough to conclude that Uzoho can do the job better than Ezenwa.

That 45mins showing is not enough.
Let's not jump into hasty conclusion that will leave us with regrets.

And in the experience and performance case. Performance is in most cases tied to experience.
You need to do some thing continuously over a given period of time to get perfect at it.

I saw the Nigeria-Cameroon 4:0 victory again. I observed that even in that match, Ezenwa made errors that went under the radar. We were just happy to see our keeper catching crosses.

In Yaounde, Cameroon scored even when they could not create chances because Ezenwa had a rush of blood to the head.

Against Algeria, there were several errors..

If Enyeama does not return, then we should give Uzoho friendly games to see how he performs. Start preparing him mentally.

If he gives strong showings in the friendlies, I will take the risk with him. Ezenwa is not a better risk.

Truth is even Carl Ikeme was not so reliable as even before he was diagnosed of Leukaemia he was mostly out injured which was why Akpeyi kept goal a number of times.

Akpeyi and Ezenwa are the real causes of this keeper crisis and not the Leukaemia that affected Ikeme.

The duo have been within the Super Eagles fold since the time of Keshi and Oliseh. Playing second or third fiddle to the top goalies then. Now this is a time for them to step in and we found out they have not learnt much.

Akpeyi is even more disappointing to me because he is the most exposed of all the goalkeepers in the squad. You need to see him in Chippa United colors.

Post Russia I would willingly want to push out the duo from the team completely but first we need to climb that huddle of a world cup. I have nothing personal against Uzoho but there is no way I would agree to making an inexperienced goalie a first choice. Second choice, third choice no wahala.

If u look at Ezenwa's down side it is easier to manage than Uzoho's and Akpeyi's down sides.
Ezenwa even despite his height disadvantage never conceded any goals from open play in his 4 games against big African oppositions. His problem of lack of composure can be worked on by the goalkeeper trainers. I have seen his best and his worst. We can work on his worst.

Uzoho's lack of experience is a major down side for him. I am not just talking about WC experience, I am talking about real competitive game experience. How can the goalkeeper trainers make up for that? The team psychologists may try to work on him but if probably he was a little older he may find the mental strength to pull through. That boy is still a teenager and may get overwhelmed with the responsibility. Being the goalkeeper of a side is a very huge responsibility. Taking a teenage goal keeper as your first choice, without a real competitive game experience, is a huge huge huge risk that if it back fires the coache's coaching certificate could be queried.

After the 2018 WC, as we play the AFCON qualifiers, we can boot out Ezenwa and Akpeyi and parade only Uzoho, Alampasu and Okoye if we like (which is still not likely because we still need at least an experienced goalie in the mix).

Rohr says it's his last challenge, you say it's the least of our challenges. Ok oo. I rather take the words of the coach and my own assessment and that of many others who refuse to accept that the gk is the least of our problems than to go and play attacking football to shield a bad gk. You know your gk is bad but you are hoping that attacking football will save you when you still have the benefit of time to fix the problem.

Exactly, trust Nigerians. If Ebuehi fumbles, God forbid. The manner Nigerians will turn on him will make you wonder if it wasn't the same Nigerians who are loosing their minds after his Argentina cameo.
Our people are so fickle and very forgetful.
The harsh weather conditions in the sub Sahara sometimes affect our emotions, in my opinion.
