So long as govt is setting prices of fuel...there is a subsidy in place.

I did not believe the govt when they said they 'removed subsidy' . If they did...fuel would have been selling at N170 and above, and there would have been street protests.

No govt has removed or campaigned for the removal of subsidy. It is only something they talk about once they are in office...

Back in 2006, OBJ floated subsidy removal. One of his ministers even said that in Nigeria pms is cheaper than coke (then ! ) But Nigerians growled.

Oga enough with dis ur usual subsidy nonsense... Dis govt claims to have removed d same subsidy we wanted to crucify GEJ for.. Except U are d govt den stop making excuses for dem

Buhari may not be the best choice for Minister of Petroluem, but he should not resign.

The real problem are the greedy marketers and petrol station owners who are hoarding products.
This hoard translates to artificial scarcity which ultimately translates to an increased profit margin for them.

I expected you to say a functional taskforce should be set up to fine or seal up stations hoarding products.

With that said,
Buhari should not resign as Minister of Petroleum, he should resign as President.
Please give me a good reason why they will want to hoard fuel products.

pls all those saying there is no scarcity but artificial hurdling should explain what they mean by "artificial hurdling"

where did they get the fuel they are hurdling?
is NNPC also hurdling its products?
why are they hurdling the fuel?

Hoarding happens because thanks to an increase in the cost of importing fuel from N132 to N142 over the last 3 weeks, it has become difficult for marketers to pay NNPC for imported fuel

So they hoard to make sure they don't run out of existing stock, and also in anticipation of increased prices.

1. So long as govt set prices, there is a subsidy in place.

2You are speaking to someone who backed GEJ'S price increase back in 2012. So, sorry.

3. You need to read my original comment especially the bit where i said that i did not believe that govt removed subsidy.

4.If govt removes subsidy now..prices would have shot up to N200 per liter. Eventually, long term they would have fallen. (That is why i backed GEJ's price increases..even though it was not a subsidy removal).

5.I don't back APC or PDP. I want a govt that would make the hard choices we need to become an industrial nation, not a nation dependent on exporting raw materials. This govt isnt it. So take your bitterness elsewhere.

I wonder why Nigerians enjoy seeing their fellow Nigerian suffer. This festive season is supposed to be about love, but in my country it is this season that foodprices would be on the increase fuel scarcity or hoarding begins, transport fare etc instead of our prices to reduce in the spirit of love it would increase.

Couldn't get fuel in many stations in Lagos today and those few filling stations that had are witnessing mad queues.
The story is the same or even worse in other parts of Nigeria.
The Petroleum minister is President Muhammadu Buhari. This same man got away with the most drastic price increase in the pump price of fuel in Nigeria,so there is no justification for this current scarcity.
I have not seen this level of incompetence becausevi am sure if YarAdua, and even Jonathan in all his incompetent glory had been allowed the same leeway, and this kind of scarcity persists, they would virtually have been chased out of office! Oil subsidy must go...

1. There were serious scarcities during GEJ'S time in office...and we did not chase him out then. grin
2.Reasons why we have fuel queues are simple

First, we import PMS now at 142 . Before it was at 132 naira. And we are still forcing IPMAN to sell at N145. If i was an IPMAN member, i would have hoarded too.
Second, oil prices are too low for Nigeria to adequately subsidize fuel AND increase the value of the naira. As a result, naira value is falling, meaning we need more naira to buy fuel, and more naira to get dollars to import.
Nigeria needs oil at $120 per barrel to balance the books. Right now it is at $64. (That is why we borrow to finance the budget, but that's another story).

Bubu could end fuel queues IF he removed the 'imaginary' subsidy, and allowed fuel marketers to set their prices.

YES...fuel will sell at 200-300 naira per liter.
YES...govt should have built new refineries, and gotten those modular refineries running.

BUT as investment flows in...since under deregulation, people would be allowed to make heavy profit...prices will fall, since those marketers who sell at lower prices than their competitors would make more money.

If BUBU wants to be a leader, not a politician, he should take the HARD decision and allow for deregulation.
BRO! LEAVE THAT STORY..... Even if Fuel is set at 400 naira in Nigeria..... it will still be Scare....
The Government in Power is IDEALESS...Came in with sooo much Promise but was alas it was all a Charade.......

A good reason is the tactical but crude suppression of views.
The Nigerian Broadcasting commission had earlier this year regulated the airing of phone in programs with the directive to broadcast stations to limit the time allocated, the number per day,but most crudely that call ins should be screened.
TVC bowed cheaply and yanked off its popular newspaper review, and those still airing are giving us caricature of phone ins.
The same devilish government wanted to achieve same aim with social media, but have found that almost impossible due to the global nature of popular sites.

Wen I heard fuel was 145 ,I laughed because I know how we reason and greed for money...

I told my friend forget all d lies of subsidy removal in amayter of time it will go higher....

Even if 1liter of fuel is 500nsira it will still increase it just takes the majerters tired of a certain profit range and create scarcity to increase price...

The govt does not have control over marketers...
