Help, I just got a job but my employer told me I will be put on a 3-month probation before being fully taken as a staff.
meanwhile I will only be given an allowance during the course of the probation and my full induction as a staff will depend on my performance.
I need an advice on what to do since am new to the employment wirld, so I won't take the wrong step please

If you like the job , then take it. The point I don't understand is the allowance stuff.

In another words , you are yet to get an appointment letter . because you appointment letter (employment letter) should detail your salary and emolument .
And the letter should state the condition of service .

Most, if not all corporate companies have standard probationary period, it could be 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and even for some banks 2 years.
Though the terms and conditions differ (some pay full salary, some pay percentage of your salary, some withhold some bonuses, etc), notwithstanding they still give probationary period.
If you like the organization, I will advise you accept it. But you may want to ask them now what their full terms and pay package entails after confirmation of your employment.

Oga, go start that job except you have a better alternative

If your company is of good integrity and you perform well, they will pay all your basic salary after the probation.

Give it a try, life itself is a risk

As long as it's government job. Otherwise, still maintain your job status as "Actively seeking".

You not giving details but asking for advice ...

What exactly are the terms of service

What exactly is expected of you

What exactly is expected of your employer

What indices / performance tarvets are you supposed to meet...I.e how will your work be appraised etc

Are you currently employed?

At what stage would an offer letter be tendered?

Ask of your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) inorder to know how your performance would be measured this is to ensure you don't go about scoring goals when you're job was to keep the post.

All the best!

Of all the Indigenous Local Government Areas of Lagos State, Ojo Local Government Area remains the ONLY Local Government Area WITHOUT a General Hospital.

Our people go as far BADAGRY, Awori Ajeromi, Igando, Ikeja, e.t.c before they can get adequate and qualitative medical attentions.
What we have are just "clinics" terned "Health Centers".
On behalf of ALL the GOOD, AMIABLE, PATRIOTIC, and LAW ABIDING citizens of OJO Local Government; I hereby call on our Responsible and Active Governor and his Hard working Deputy, to please for GOD sake, come to our aid and resurrect the abandoned General Hospital Project sited at OLUGBEMI ESTATE, by Agric Bus-stop, Ojo town.
This project has been abandoned since after the administration of PA Lateef Jakande.

is it an entry level job? if not, then you should have a salary not a mere allowance, even in probation. moreso, you have a right to negotiate that salary. but for entry level, it is understandable, you could take it to get your feet in.. but he should give you an employment letter for the probation, then after probation demand for a confirmation letter.

as you go on, learn to monetarise your worth/services, that way you would know what is fair game rather than just saying yes to whatever an employer wishes to pay at first. in the Nigeria labour market, every employer would want to pay the barest minimum, even get you to work for free if possible. learn to negotiate your salary once you get some work experience and have the competence they seek for.

Please take the job. Even in civil service job. You stay on probation for one year before confirmation. There is nothing wrong on being on probation for a specific period of time, but I will suggest you ask your employer humorously for a temporary letter of appointment stating your remuneration and other guidelines. You should suspect foul play if he decline your request. However, i still advice you take d job since you are not doing anything now. You will at least gain some job experience there which could add to your CV. Good Luck

If you have a job already, don’t take this offer. It’s a ploy to lure you out of your current salary and negotiate on their own terms.
